Temps here
last night were in the low 20's so nothing has thawed out yet. It is supposed to
get up to 50 this afternoon. If it thaws things out before to late we will
probably go to OKC late this afternoon or in the morning. Beth's body is now
supporting 12 different strains of infection including psuedomonis (SP) which is
a very dangerous one. It is the one that killed our grand son. All of our other
problems are just going to have to wait while we deal with this one. Herb and
Jodi

Why do some
people want this board shut down??? Some information here has been very useful.
It's also a place where someone can vent their problems if they wish. Yes, I
admit, some people can be crule with their remarks, but it still is a very good
place for information.Best wishes to all diabetics.

Herb - You and your family remain in
the thoughts and prayers of many people. It is heartbreaking to hear of the
challenges you are facing now; knowing that a loved one is suffering and not
being able to do anything is a devastating experience. I know you have a source
of solace and strength to call on during these times. A whole host is at your
call to support you. I hope you can find comfort and strength to carry on
despite what you face.

Just
checking in. We are still iced in. No other changes in any thing. They had to
pull Beth's J tube this morning. This is the one that they feed her through. So
now she is not getting any anti biotics and they can't feed her. How long can
she have? We still can't get there and Jodi is losing her mind. My blood sugars
are soaring, 253 at bedtime last night, 183 at breakfast this morning. I
normally run well under 140 and have more trouble with lows than I do highs. As
soon as the lunch hour is over I will have to begin a round of telephone calls
with Medicare and the insurance company. Jodi normally handles this sort of
thing but she is just to frazzled right now. I'm sure that we will head to OKC
just as soon as the roads clear so if I disapear from the board suddenly don't
worry. As McArthur said "I shall return." By the way for what ever it is worth I
would hate to see this board close. It has been such a good positive site in the
past and can be again. Herb and Jodi

Oh Herb, I'm so sorry for all the
problems you are being bombarded with. Sounds like you need someone, (like a
lawyer), to go to bat for you! These insurance companies can really be a pain in
the butt! I pray you don't lose your chair. I know that it has been a lifesaver
for you. Please, go ahead and cry, there is nothing like a good cry to take away
some of that stress. And no matter what some people say, men can cry! Please
give Jodi a big hug for me, and know that you and yours are in my prayers. We
have had some pretty bad and cold weather down here too. But, it is suppose to
warm up today into the 50's and get into the 60's this weekend. I really don't
mind the cold, it makes for a nice change once in awhile. Hope everyone has a
good day!

Herb: Sorry to hear of your
difficulties! Wow! Steve: 124lb? How tall are you? What is your age? I am 5'5
and 147lbs. This sounds like quackery to me. For most guys, that would leave
skin and bone with a layer of fat; hardly a healthy condition to say the least.
Please respond bro. 'and

People like
to say "Things have got to get better they couldn't get worse." Guess what they
did! I am beginning to understand how and why some of the folks who write here
get real down in the dumps. The phone rang and it was Hoveround. They are
putting out a recall on their chairs. I have been ordered not to use mine until
they can get a man here to do something to it. It is supposed to be unsafe. We
are having an ice storm. There is 1/2 inch of ice all over everything. So he
can't get here and this also means that we can't get back to OKC to see about
Beth. She is not doing any better. They pulled her infusaport today thinking it
might be the source of infection. They put it in so they could give her IV
antibiotics. They can't give them to her in her veins any more. Her veins are
all collapsed and in terrible shape. I don't know what they can do now. On top
of all this when we got home we had a notice in the mail that our insurance is
going to be changed to a HMO effective Jan 1. It appears that our cost of drugs
is going to double and I take 27 pills a day. On top of this we have a major
billing problem. Our insurance was our primary when we were notified in July
that Medicare should be our primary and our insurance should be our supplement.
We received our Medicare card in August and were told that it went into effect
Feb 2nd this year. The insurance company has contacted all of our doctors
demanding refunds on all the bills they have paid since Feb 2nd and iforming
them that they need to bill Medicare. All of my doctors have done this only to
have their bills returned unpaid saying that I am not covered by Medicare as my
primary that they are my supplement since my employer who agreed when I retired
to pay for my insurance until age 65 is still showing me as and employee and
payling that rate for my insurance. So now all the doctors are tired of the
hassle and looking to us to pay the bills and file for insurance where ever we
want to. The real scary one is that Medicare has declined to pay the $11,000 for
this electric chair that is on recall. I know that this has gotten terminally
long and has not said one word about diabetes. I just had to vent some where. It
might be easier if I could cry like Jodi is doing. Herb (Bear)

Well, nothing
has changed here!!! Herb, I'm so sorry about Beth. Please tell Jodi not to blame
herself. You both had no way of knowing about this. My prayers are with you and
your family. DENNIS, please isgnore the rude comments! I would be happy to chat
with you. Just email me anytime. The capsule injection mentioned earlier, sounds
like what I have mentioned SEVERAL times here. The cells in the capsule, if it
is what I am thinking of, are from pigs, not SCR. Have been sick for the past
two days, started off w/a migrane Sunday evening, then other 'nice' problems.
Feel better today! All take care!
