The Diabetes Education and Research Center (DERC) is a non-profit organization serving the needs of people living in Philadelphia, PA and surrounding communities. DERC was established in 1968 to supplement the efforts of the Garfield G. Duncan Research Foundation.

The Diabetes Education and Research Center was formerly affiliated with the University of Pennsylvania Healthcare System and Pennsylvania Hospital. It is now supported through a grant from the Diabetes Education and Research Center Endowment Fund of The Philadelphia Foundation.

The Diabetes Education and Research Center aids the Garfield G. Duncan Research Foundation's goal through:

  • Education. Visit Penn Medicine's Diabetes Education Program for information about classes and related offerings.
  • Patient advocacy. We provide contact information for companies, health professionals, and other individuals and organizations.
