How true. You are so right. This board is no longer what it once was. Perhaps in time,it may go back to a fine support group for diabetics of all ages, and both types-whether type one or type 2. It is too bad this board has changed so much. The insults and hostileb remarks and put-downs don't have a place here. To deal with this sort of thing is simply too much. After the terrible and tragic events of September 11th,healing is needed. Inner strength also needed. Words of hate/anger against people we don't know defeats the purpose of the board:to help our fellow diabetics deal with each/every aspect of this disease. Herb,I think of you, hope everything works out for the best. Greetings to Marc W,Gordon,Faith,CB. Also Fara. Jim,good luck-hope you make a full recovery.

My goodness.....I can't believe how absurd, & self-absorbed some of you people are on this board!!!! Hardly anyone post on this board anymore because it has become such a hatefilled place! Then when someone posted "very exciting news" (11:49:38) about, breaking ground in the fight on Diabetes!! What did you trouble makers comment? The post from the guy looking for diabetic pen pals! "WHAT LOSERS" you people are who do this here! Your brains must be jello, or mush! Something is "seriously" wrong with a person(s), who comes back to this board over & over for years, just for the soul purpose of causing trouble! Dennis....sorry to say, you came to the wrong message board looking for diabetic pen pals. There use to be some really good information, & people on this board, but some nut, or nuts who must led very boring, and sad lives. Scans this place everyday to harrass people here for fun! Most people have decided to not put up with the childess nonsense here, and have gone elsewhere for support. Truthfully, you are better off not posting your email here, because the nut(s) will probably be the one to email you, and then cause you nothing but trouble! Spread the word about this board, someday it will either be changed, so innocent people cannot be harrassed, or gone!

This has been an exceptionaly distressing, negative, disturbing, depressing, downer 10 days. Beth is still in the hospital. Nothing they are doing for her seems to be working. She went in to the hospital with her body growing 2 infections. One a staph and the other one a strep. Not only have they not gained on these two, she is now growing two more. The two new ones are a different strain of strep and a gram negative. We have watched her grow weaker and weaker each day. It has reached the point that the doctors don't want me around her because I might contract some of the infections. This makes it real tough on Jodi. She has to choose between caring for her husband and being with her daughter. This coupled with the fact that in most cases this disease is passed from mother to child has Jodi in a serious depression right now. All of this right here just before Christmas which has always been a real joyous time of the year for our family. I guess I had better quit crying in my beer and let you guys go. Herb and Jodi

Friday the Lancet () brought the announcement of the success of a new drug that will stop the development of diabetes 1. '"It stopped completely the destruction of beta cells,'"Dr Itamar Raz, of the Hadassah-Hebrew University Medical School in Israel, said in an interview. "The disease was arrested because 10 months later their capacity to secrete insulin was the same as it was in the beginning (of the trial) and even a little bit better." If further tests produce similar results, the scientists believe the drug could become a breakthrough therapy for Type 1 diabetics and could be a preventive treatment for people at high risk of developing the disease. "If this works as it seems to, in the near future we will be able to stop the development of Type 1 diabetes," said Raz. The product is called DiaPep277 - a very catchy name. I'm sure more information will follow. Dr. Joe, The Diabetes Doctor

DIABETES 2/6/01 On the World Health Alliance(tm) products I have a lot more Energy and I've had some weight loss (about 10 lbs.). I took all four products, and my Diabetes started coming down (from around 350 to 400 Blood Sugar) for about six weeks, eating properly and resting. My Blood Sugar normalized between 115 and 125. While I was on Glucophage, my Blood Sugar would be between 350 and 400. My big surprise was that I was on the products only six weeks and my Blood Sugar became normal. Before taking these products, I had trouble going up stairs, I had no Energy and I had trouble breathing. I can walk upstairs now with no problem at all. I now have Energy and no more breathing problems. DIABETES, PSORIASIS Son, Justin, 11 years old. Had a bad case of Psoriasis with open sores. All of the sores have cleared up. Brother, Herman Crosby, Buffalo, NY, has Diabetes. He went into the hospital for Cataract surgery & had one Cataract removed. He was not allowed to take his Diabetes medications. His Blood Sugar was so stabilized with Miracle-Boost(tm) that the doctors were amazed. He was on Miracle-Boost(tm) for about three weeks. I, myself, have found that I have more Energy since I've been taking Miracle-Boost(tm). Randy Crosby Toledo, Ohio BRITTLE DIABETES I have Brittle Diabetes. Before starting using World Health Alliance products, I would have wild swings in my Blood Sugar from 74 to over 300 mg/dL by evening. I have been using Miracle Boost(tm), Cleanse-Zyme(tm) and Way-Less for only 10 days and my Blood Sugar now remains between 70 and 100mg/dL, consistently. I am continuing using Insulin as before, as well as AMARIL. I want to give these products a little more time before considering gradually reducing my Insulin. I told my physician what I am doing and he has given me an o.k. I fully intend to try reducing my Insulin if my Blood Sugar goes below 70 and my Diabetes remains under control. And incidentally, this morning I found that I have lost 10 pounds in that short time. I couldn't believe it. That's a clincher. I need to be 50 to 70 lbs. lighter. They want me to be 124 lbs. I've never been 124 lbs. in my whole life.. Rowena Whitaker BRITTLE DIABETES I'm a Brittle Diabetic who had a Heart Attack last November. I take 8 medications plus 5 shots of Insulin a day. Since 3/11/01, the Insulin intake has been cut in half, and Blood Pressure has stabilized. I now have Energy and I've lost two sizes. Wow! What a lot to overcome if that study is correct with the b/s after meals being so low. I was told by my D Instructor that under 180 is preferable 2 hrs after eating. The lower the better. I caved last nite and had a tiny teeny slice of both pecan & pumpkin pie. That put me at 218 2 hrs later, but was back down to 129 2 1/2 hrs. later. I've been in the teens before breakfast. That's considerably lower than before the Actos. Am hoping to keep it going down with further cuts in calories and more excercise. I've lost 7 lbs. since Sept. and have 15 more to go. Can't wait to see the b/s levels when I reach my goal. Well, I hope you all had a good Thanksgiving and happy holiday shopping! Connie

DRUG DELIVERY - IMPLANTABLE CAPSULE CAN RELEASE STEADY SUPPLY OF INSULIN DATE: November 16, 2001 A biomedical engineer at the University of Illinois at Chicago has developed an implantable capsule that releases a steady supply of insulin to the bloodstream of the patient with diabetes. The biocapsule, developed by Tejal Desai with support from the National Science Foundation (NSF), features two innovations designed to overcome previous obstacles. A biological process allows the capsule to continuously produce insulin, rather than using up a limited supply. The capsule is made of a material designed to overcome the problem of implant rejection. "The capsule essentially acts as a bioreactor; it contains insulin-secreting cells that borrow nutrients from the body to keep producing insulin indefinitely," Desai said. "As long as the body produces glucose, the cells will respond with insulin." The biocapsule contains insulin-secreting cells. A silicon membrane containing nano-scale pores allows the insulin out and keeps out antibodies secreted by the immune system. Desai has also broken new ground by developing a successfully implantable microscale device. Tiny devices made with microchip technology have been researched extensively for implantable medical applications, but biocompatibility has been a continuing problem. To prevent the capsule from being attacked and destroyed by the immune system, Desai developed a silicon membrane covered with tiny uniform pores, each seven nanometers across. The membrane acts as a "microfilter," allowing the secretion of insulin from the capsule but blocking the entrance of antibodies. The membrane is fabricated with photolithographic techniques commonly used for silicon microchips. Desai reported the results of short-term testing of the capsule, and the prospects for other microdevices for drug delivery, at a meeting of the American Vacuum Society in San Francisco, California. The results are published in the November 2001 issue of IEEE Transactions in Biomedical Engineering. The next steps are testing the capsule for long-term usage and evaluating the ideal dosage level. We increase our protein to help out the glucose, and the cholesterol shoots to the sky. To help out the lipids, we increase our carbs, and the blood sugar goes really high. So we're damned if we don't and damned if we do, when it comes to eating most foods, Which probably explains why the folks on this chat sometimes have oddly framed moods.
