Glutamic acid is an amino acid which the body CAN produce, but not in sufficient amounts. It is available commercially as glutamine and is used by bodybuilders to prevent muscle breakdown. It is also helpful in diabetic bs control. It is also SAFE.

MarcW: I have a private comp carrier..I still haven't heard anything from them. I was supposed to call my Dist. Office if I didn't hear anything today. I came home from work and fell asleep, too late to call. I'll see what they say first thing in the a.m.. I have real mixed emotions about the cortisone injection. The placement will be real close to the Ulnar nerve and I'm afraid of complications. If it misses and hits the nerve it could really screw things up royally. I don't want to be permanently disabled by it either. Will just have to see how it goes when I talk to the Dr.. Herb: Oooh that chowder sounds delish! My hubby could never stand for me to make it though. Smells of fish etc. make him gag. I buy Snows' Clam Chowder when I get the urge, or if I go to the wharf at Monterey or Santa Cruz I get a bowl full. Best stuff this side of Chocolate Mousse. Well I gotta fix dinner. Nite all. I take many meds a day , things that aren't good for the liver (pain pills). Are there any products that help keep it going and clean? I think there is something called liverite, but I know nothing about it. Thanks... Marc

GORDO: She starts her sauce by browning ground turkey, draining it and then putting it in a colander and washing it until she is sure there is no fat. She then makes her sauce by using tomato puree that is 100% tomatoes and adds her spices. It's delicious. But I have alwlays been afraid to eat it over pasta because of the carbs. I had her home made clam chowder for lunch. She uses a can of clams, a jar of clam juice, and fat free sour cream to thicken it. It also is delicious. Let me be honest, despite my fears I would eat the spaghetti once in a while. Herb (Bear)

Herb: 1/2 cup of spaghetti squash was one veg. exchange while 1/2 cup spaghetti was one bread/starch exchange. Sp Sq is lower in essential amino acids than reg. but does have 22 mg aspartic acid and 53 mg glutamic acid and 18% of the carbs. Knowing your wife, she is not about to put things in the sauce that will sneak up on you. This is what is known as intelligent cheating. When you have a craving to overeat something, do it intelligently by eating things that do not upset your BG numbers. This way you can achieve the sensation of fullness occasionally with normal BG's. Another plus is that most of the small amount of fats present are essential which are used for cholesterol removal to the liver. Ask CB what the Aspartic and glutamic acid do, I don't know. Gordo

Hi Connie.... about Comp, my wife has been dealing with them and work limitations for years. My advise is lean on them like your life depended on it. It's a vicious cycle your in and it has to be broken. Those little adjustments can make a world of difference and the Dr should limit you to whatever is pain free work for you. My wife got real bad from not pushing them until after the first year and it cost her big time. Those who scream loadest get what they want, remember that during your next call to comp. Good luck and I know what your going through with the left handed thing, when I had a shoulder scope I had to do everything right handed, I am left handed it was my left shoulder, it was the funniest thing to watch. I couldn't even brush my teeth right handed! Watch the cortizone, it's a killer on the bs for about 48 hours... take care and let us know the progress you make..... Marc

FAITH: The spaghetti squash is yellow and is shaped like a tiny watermelon. (The long not round ones.) It has a hard rind, but you cut it in half and scoop out the seeds. Place it cut side down in a pan with some water in it and bake till tender. For speed I cover with plastic wrap and steam it in the microwave. When it's done just start scraping it out with a fork. It makes quite a bit from one small squash. Just cover it with marinara sauce (with or without meat) and enjoy. It doesn't have a heavy squashy flavor. It's also great if you bake it with a little Butter Buds (or margarine) and sprinkle with nutmeg or cinnamon for a side dish. Have fun with it! I have to call my workmans' comp carrier and fight with them today. They did an ergonomic inspection of my workspace and made quite a few recommendations for changes to help with my tendonitis. That was 4 weeks ago and nothing has been done yet. They haven't even sent the recommmendations to my supervisor yet so they can implement them. I'm still expected to do my job with the limitations given by the Dr., and get better without the changes recommended? I don't know what they are thinking. It's been getting worse..tingling and numbness in arm and 4th-5th fingers. I have to call Dr. today also and see if he can add more limits to my writing and typing at work because it's getting a little worse. This is the pits doing left handed typing and doing stuff at home is more difficult too. I want to take a brick to these peoples heads so they can see from my perspective what their procrastination is doing. But then, that's corporate thinking I guess. Ignore it and it will go away...NOT! Anyways...I'll try and make the best of today... Have a good one everyone. Connie

Jodi started several years ago on Thanksgiving and Christmas telling the kids that we would have the turkey/ham and would fix it but they would have to bring all the trimmings. Of course all of our daughters and our 2 daughters in law know their way around a kitchen and pitch in and help. It sounds like you are about where I am with your heart. I have 42% of my heart function left. I really hope that your comment about climbing the mountain makes reference to your depression and not your heart. Because as I am sure your Cardiologist told you there is no repairing the heart once the damage is done. The only thing they can do is stabilize your heart with meds and teach you how to compensate for the lower heart function. It will mean doing almost everything in short spurts because you will not have the stamina that you once had to just hang in there and do things. You will tire very quickly and will probably find an afternoon nap a real boost to your day. I hope I have not discouraged you. You have already adjusted to many changes in your life. You can do this too. You will soon learn how to use the word NO a lot more when people are asking things of you. Herb (Bear)

I found a yummy recipe for oatmeal mix on the splenda website. Low carbs and very filling. Plus some ideas for adding flavors. Had it this a.m. and will see how it affects me later. I had my nerve conduction survey yesterday. It wasn't too bad. The needle pokes into the muscles was a little uncomfortable, but finger pricks all this time made it bearable. The results showed no nerve damage. Just irritation from the inflamation of the muscles and tendons. Now I get the joy of having a cortisone shot in my elbow to reduce the inflammation. Hopefully it'll turn this around. I'm tired of the constant ache and occassional numbness. Anyway: Enough complaining..I still have lots to be thankful for. You all have a good day. Connie

Lose muscle and suffer heart problems or eat sufficient protein and die of kidney failure. Gordo, I need your help here. APs, do not respond! This is a serious question!

Alcohol has always hit me hard and fast so I know my limitations and stay out of it. I had a strange B/S this AM. Before when I was on Micronaise, I knew when I was low because I could get the shakes at readings from 95 or less. I woke up late this am (Holiday!!) and felt hungry, but took a shower & dressed first. Then I checked and I was 61!! No shakes, or any other symptoms...just felt hungry. That's scary!!! It was a true reading..checked it twice. I changed meds because I was tired of getting the shakes so often at mid-range numbers. Now I fear I've gone too far the other way. Any Ideas? I wasn't in any hurry to check the b/s this am because I splurged and ate 2 choc. chip cookies I made for the family last nite. I had already had my snack of popcorn so I figured I'ld blew it and would be high this am. Whoa what a surprise!! (Not that I'll do it on a regular basis now.) Well I gotta go get some housework done. I'm kinda anxious about the nerve study I'm getting done on my arm at 4pm. It's been pouring rain 1" an hour. Sure hope it slows down by then.
