Hi again,
another beautiful day here in Arkansas, in lower 70's and just beautiful leaves
in wondrous colors, perfect for walking and enjoying. This is my birthday and it
may be the last I am claiming, am 59 today. My hubby and I celebrated last nite
at his service award supper, (he has worked at Emerson Electric for 40 years
this month.) We both ate one small plate with no returns to the lines and left
feeling good not stuffed. I am thankful that the walking is helping Jerry's
blood pressure, and my blood sugar and that I am able still to walk. Thanks for
the encouragement from some dear dear friends on here will be popping in
occasionally with updates but am very busy, too. Tomorrow head to Memphis to a
Women's Hospital Auxiliary meeting, am regional secretary, (West Memphis, AR)
actually. Have now got up to 120 students, (7th to 12th grade junior volunteers)
that I am coordinating and working with 5 days a week and what a blessing that
is. Walking the halls, and relaxing and sharing with these eager young people
helps keep my sugar in a much better range. Ironically, we senior mentors are
called Pink ladies, lol. See yall later, Love Anita

Hi All! Well I
finally gave up trying to do the diet, excercise thing only to get control. It
just wasn't working. My swings were to wide for me to feel comfortable with. One
thing I found I did wrong was not eating when I was too high. I thought if I ate
it would go up even more. I am walking 3 days a week for 30 min. and going to
the YMCA to work out when I can. I had too many Dr. & Phys. Therapy appts.
last week to get to the Y. W'ere painting inside the house also. I have to do
most things left handed due to th e tendonitis. I'm getting pretty good at it,
but tire easier. anywayz..I've been doing lots better with meal plans. No
potatoes, rice, cereal etc. I have found a scrumptious way to eat spagetti with
almost no carbs! I use spaghetti squash instead of pasta! It doesn't have a
squashy taste and is a little crunchy. It's really great! Well I gotta go...the
cookie dough is ready and the family is craving Peanut butter cookies.....i get
to eat mixed nuts for a snack instead. Yummmy! Have a good Monday.....

Sabrina, Yes I've had some lows,
that's one of the things you really have to watch out for. My boluses depend on
how many carbs going in. I use 2 for every 14 carbs. And If I'm checking my bg's
randomly and it is over 150, I take one unit for every 50 over 150, to bring it
back down. Vinny is a good one to talk to about the pump. I know he really likes
it. MarcW, Bambi, use to be on one, don't think she is now, and several others.
I'm sorry your doctor will not even tell you why she will not consider it.
Probably because she doesn't know enough about them. They (doctors) don't like
to admit they don't know more about something than their patients do. LOL Well
it's late, will check in tomorrow!

i unfortunately don't have ink in my printer, or i would. a person i know from
here, vinny, loves his pump. he can't stop singing its praises. i was begining
to think maybe it would be for me too. have you had any problems with it? how
many units is a "bolus"? when you were on shots, did you ever have problems with
your injection site stinging really bad? when i first started giving myself
shots, it really didn't hurt at all. now it hurts all the time. it hurts as the
insulin goes in, it hurts after i pull out the needle. i have a hard time
injecting in my arm anymore. i have to do it in my stomach mostly. my legs are
not even an option. i can't get past the pain of the needle going in. i have
another question-if blood comes out of your injection site after you withdrawl
the needle, is it anything to be worried about? well its late on my end of the
fence, so i'm going to sign off. good night to faith, faye, marc, jim, and herb.
see you all tommorrow.

Meal subs can be expensive, but if
time precludes cooking, here is a fast one: One scoop protein powder (NOT veggie

protein 28-33 gm, carbs 42 gm, fat, less than one gram. fruit juice can be used
if blender will take too long. Use shaker instead. Also, for those on low protein
diets, 1/2 scoop protein can be used, dropping the total protein to 18-23
grams.

Sabrina: Your word for the day is: lie
Function: verb Inflected Form(s): lied; ly·ing /'lI-i[ng]/ 1 : to make an untrue
statement with intent to deceive 2 : to create a false or misleading impression
transitive senses : to bring about by telling lies synonyms LIE, PREVARICATE, EQUIVOCATE, PALTER, FIB mean to tell an untruth.
LIE is the blunt term, imputing dishonesty .
PREVARICATE softens the bluntness of LIE by implying quibbling or confusing the
issue. EQUIVOCATE implies using words having more than one sense so as to seem
to say one thing but intend another . PALTER implies making unreliable statements of fact or
intention. FIB applies to a telling of a trivial untruth .

Sabrina, My doctor recommended
the pump to me. I love it!! It gives you insulin all day long. You and your
doctor, till you understand how to do it, will set up the amounts it is to
dispense at different times of the day, 24 hours a day. As I said the other day,
when you take in carbs then you 'bolus' in enough to cover the carbs you eat.
Some people have trouble with the injection site. MarcW can tell you about that.
I did with the first kind I tried, but when I went to the kind that leaves a
teflon type little canula in place, no problems. Some can't leave that in place
very long, a couple of days or so, but I can leave mine in place for around 6
days. The doctors don't really recommend that, because after awhile the insulin
tends to pool and is not absorbed like it should be. You just have to be 'very'
diligent in checking your BG's on those last few days. Does your doctor state
why he/she doesn't want you on the pump? Go to www.MiniMed.com, there you can
get all the info you need. Print it out and take it to your doctor.

up to them yourself? i've been talking to a person i met from here, who is also
using a pump. he strongly recomended that i get one, but when i brought it up to
my endo, she shot the whole idea down really fast. i originally started on
amaryl and glucaphage. when she maxed me out on both pills, she put me on the
humolog 75/25. and recently gave me the humolog and a sliding scale. are pumps
more convient? are there any complications to worry about with a pump? how long
do you go before you have to refill it? a friend of mine has a daughter who has
a pump installed to release muscle relaxer because she has cerebal paulsy. is it
like that? i'm seriously thinking of pushing my doc into giving me a pump, but i
want to learn more about it. she also just increased my morning dose of insulin
to 62 units of the 75/25. what are your views?

blood pressure at 110 over 70 and had lost another 5 lbs in 2 weeks. Thank God
for cool weather where Jerry and I can walk again. I am truly trying to work on
the balance in the diet again and have for a solid month again been a very on
task person. It is very hard when you are constantly barraged with socials at
church, a chocaholic hubby and grandcritters who want snacks (who I am now
giving fruit and health bars). For me,I am learning that a big chunk of lettuce
and some salsa over it is a great snack to take the edge off that appetite of
mine, and that I actually won't die if I leave some food on that plate when
Jerry and I eat out. My prayer lately has been, "Lord, help me eat to live, not
live to eat." Gordon, you would be proud of me on the glycemic index usage, too.
Especially on my fruits etc. Have been listening to tapes called 12 reasons why
people overeat, and has been hitting home. We have to keep motivated, and I am
thankful that for now I am. Love all of you, Anita aka hotpink on icq
