I know for a fact they are lots of people over there in big need of those sugar testing machines without the neccesarie help for them,is there an organization or companie who care enough for people in big need?. Thanks Bea Beckers

About carbs: Heavy starches like pasta seem to encourage unhealthy weight gain, especially if fat is at the 25% level or higher. About weight gain on insulin, is it water retention or better use of carbs? As I have often said, a bodyfat check will reveal what weight, if any, needs to be lost.

Good evening to all. Had my son and my grandson for dinner tonight. Baked chicken, squash, fresh green beans stuffing. whipped ppotatoes and cranberry sauce. No dessert!!! They were going to help hubby put up the kitchen ceiling but our son pulled the muscles in his shoulder doing roofing today. Hopefully it will be better tomorrow. He is suppose to go to Maine to paint a house tomorrow, but it is suppose to rain. Well that has had nothing to do with diabetes. This does--In a new cook book I bought for diabetics someone asked the question as to why they didn't list the sugar content of the recipe and just the total carbo count. The answer I thought was all wrong. They said that sugar does not raise your blood sugar so there was no need to list it sepratly. Any commet on that answer????? Herb--Thhis eye bit is all new for me and between you and my good friend Marc W. I know that if I have any questions, I will get good honest answers and I will ask when the need arises, and I will keep you posted on how they are doing. I was cleaning my sewing area one day last week and I came across the material I had bought to make my Lynzee an outfit for school and for Davis his Scooby pj's. last Christmas. The material for my daughters nightie is still uncut. She said to me one day you know Mom, I need that nighty real bad as the other one you made me a couple of years ago is worn out and I got a hole in and and I cried. I had to tell her that I couldn't see well enough to make it. Maybe if she cuts it out for me I can try. It really hurts not being able to do the thhings that you love to do and that others always expected from you. Oh Well, just andother day in the life of a diabetic. Just keep smiling and take one day at a time!!!!Love to all. Faye

Then I have a pair of tri-focals to wear for destances from 6 feet out to infinity. I also have had multiple laser eye surgeries. I go back for a check up next month and am really hoping that I don't have to have any more of the laser surgery. Since my sisters fire, I have been worried about fires and no insurance. Now we will be able to get some once it is all done. I am not letting the mess bother me but what does bother me very much is this virus bit. I can't stop thinking about it. You are all my friends and now I don't even dare e-mail anyone. Oh well!! As one poster wrote to me, if it hurts, it's not right. I have never had my injection site hurt before. The needle must have been rubbing on my hip bone, worked awhile, I took a long walk (had a 44!) so I know it worked, then it worked itself out. Live & learn. For the most part, the insulin pump has been great. Saved my life and I would recommend it to any type 1 diabetic, who is having problems with "brittle" diabetes. Also just a note: there is a new silk longjohn coming out that is anti-static, made with silver. I am in the cold country, and have shorted out my pump with static electricity (twice) and this will help. For me, that is. Have a good day, everyone..

Herb made a good point about being a trainer after 6 years on the pump. Diabetics get a lot of advice from people who know nothing of what they speak. I just delete the stuff that doesn't apply. I stay in touch with the doc, test a lot, and adjust insulin if bs goes too high. I posted earlier that getting to know your body helps. It can even guide you in the right food types and quantities FOR YOU!!!!! I forget where I read it, but most Diabetics are allowed too few nutrients to meet their needs. It is sad that most refuse to learn the benefits of whole food nutrients, not isolated chemicals concocted in a lab! Above this will be a post on the benefits of muscle gain.

Sam: Did the cannula actually "pull out" - did you not notice the dressing pulled off? It would be impossible for the cannula to pull out with the dressing intact. However, it IS possible to the cannula to collapse (or degrade)if if is inserted for too long - you can also get a kink or completely bend the cannula which obstructs the flow of insulin. The pump is designed to trouble shoot this problem though and a "no delivery" alarm should have sounded. You should also be taking injections by syringe immediately if you get two high readings in a row as there is obviously a problem with the insertion site. No offense, but it doesn't sound like you got the best training.

JIM: I did not mean to lessen to any degree your loss if it was not related to our national tragedy. I spent 20 years working with our Baptist Disaster Relief Team. The definintion of disaster is "An event in the life or lives of an individual or group of individuals that they are not prepared to handle without help". Help can be physical, financial, spiritual, psychological, a hot meal or just a cup of coffee and a kind word. I do not mean to imply that you need help in dealing with your loss. I only want to let you know that I understand that any loss national or personal can be a disaster to an individual and my thoughts and prayers are with you. SAM: I replied to your E-mail. I will be interested in knowing whether or not you receive my reply? Herb (Bear)

Marc B...PROBABLY long lasting insulin (NPH, LENTE?)once a day, in the belly, small needles now, hardly feel them. They will give you an orange to try first...depends on body weight, exercise level, age, and diet, of course. Perhaps until you lose weight, if overweight. My Mom was on 1 a day, but she would not follow the diet. Eyes & kidneys went. Fast! If you need it, take it. Write if you like. I have 2 Brothers that are type 2 also. One won't take insulin, needs it, and his sugar was 360 when he last came up to visit. Gave him 10 units of regular, before I fed him! He still won't take it, go figure. I am going to the local Hospital, a support group for type 1's tonight...being the one of 2 on the pump in this area of S.W. Michigan. Interesting. Then I am going to can some applesauce with cinnamon & peaches. Can't hurt...fruit's cheap here right now at Harvest time. Got a big basement.

Sam,always nice eading your posts. Keep posting. Yes,there is going to be a war,how far it will go probably up to President Bush. When I ate out,had light salad:Goat Cheese(baked) with pine nuts,lemon-mustard dressing. And small salad. Sugar has come down, talking with a friend, went to see The Score, movie with Brando and De Niro,helped:5.2. Now fasting. Still so nervous and anxious about war. Now in Synagogues, increased security. Looking to take vacation(by Rail-in Canada) soon. Read the Nostradamus fakes-sounds like they inverted and distorted for fear. Diabetics *type 2) are going to have alot of difficulty controlling glucose readings..at least till world middle east problems cool off. Wanted to do partial fast in Synagogue on Yom Kippur(Day Of Atonement) Rabbi and my doctor said no. They(+I) concerned about my body's reaction to all this turmoil. They are telling me insulin(temporary?) might help control better my unstable diabetes. How long would I have to take it? Where would I inject it? How often? What kind?

WELL!! I may have spoken to soon. I have not received an E-mail since 7:00 PM Sunday. There is a lady who sends me dozens of forwaded messages every single day. I have E-mailed several of the people that I have their addresses and have asked them to reply. So far, nothing. So I am going to ask some of you to send me an E-mail message and let me know on here that you have done so. I really hope that I am jumping to conclusions. We depend on E-mail to stay in touch with all of our kids and grand kids in order to avoind the high costs of long distance telephone calls. It's funny all of our family will sit down and write and respond to E-mails yet we have never been a family to write letters. I think the last letter I wrote was when Jodi and I were dating. Gordo, if this should happen to be a worm don't beat your self up over it. You had absolutely no way of knowing that you had the worm and whethre or not you were passing it on. This is something that we all accept the posibility of when we receive E-mail or log on to the internet. Herb (Bear)
