Boy it was great to get back home. The hunting trip was great. The dr's appointments all went real well. I showed my heart dr. some of the pictures of this trip and some of the turkey hunting trip I went on this spring. I thought he was going to cry. He said "Herb, you don't know how good this makes me feel. Most of the people I help go home and sit in their chair and wait to die. You are living, living life to the fullest you can. You just can't understand how these pictures make me feel!" He was going to not require me to come back and see him for a year. But when he realized I have had my ICD in for 2 years he thought that we ought to keep a little closer watch than that on the batteries so I see him again in 6 months. I know that I had a great time with the boys. It was really neat to share that time with them as buddies and not have to maintain a father son relationship. My BS is staying under good control. I hope all of you are staying under good control. FAITH: The news on your "spot" is great. JIM: Hang in there buddy. I don't believe for a minute that you are unstable. His older brother developed his at the age of 18, is now in his late 30's. Any questions you have, please feel free to email me or post it on here. I've been labled a 'brittle' diabetic most of these past 33 years. I'm now on an insulin pump.

Jim,I have a gastric reflux ulcer,had one since I was 22,now 45. I had first been on Tagamet,gave me headaches. Later on,a few years later,doctor switched me to Zantac. Been on it ever since. Thanks Steve- I was on Aciphex and the Dr switched me to Ranitidine. The Aciphex was working fine and I don't understand why he changed, but the Ranitidine worked terrible so I got him to put me back on the Aciphex. The crux of my question though, is whether Acid-Reflux is common or inherant in having diabetes. Sure would appreciate more input from fellow diabetics on this. Jim

Good morning Jim. Howdy Faith! Jim -- I've had acid reflux problems for a long time. Spent many sleepless nights chewing multiple Tums or downing multiple Alka-Selzers. In my case, I discovered it usually occurred when I ate certain combinations of foods that triggered high production of stomach acid. By avoiding those combos, I've managed this well. The drug my doctor prescribed -- Ranitidine -- also helps (it's like Prevacid). You might want to track what you eat and watch what happens.

Hi Faith- Yes, there were problems getting on here the past couple of days. Herb emailed me asking if I was having problems getting on here as well. I just figured that my "buddy" got his wish and they shut it down. Glad they didn't and hope they never buckle to "IT". BTW, many people here may not realize it, but at the bottom of the screen there is a "home" page that they can go to, to donate to DERC, plus some interesting articles. Jim

Something interesting from yesterday: I got on a Yahoo chat and the topic was "America's Tragedy" or something to that effect. I couldn't believe the hate spewing from that place. There were even people on there pretending to be Afghani's and Iraqi's, saying things to provoke fights and doing a pretty good job of it. What I saw on there was 100 times worse than this place ever got. I guess that's another problem with the internet. You've got people who wouldn't dare say these things face to face with someone. They only do it online. I guess you could say that they need their "e-courage" to have the guts to hide behind a handle or complete anonynimity like here. They sit at their computer by themselves (with all their friends, get it?) and decide that they're 10 feet tall and invincible. Pathetic losers anyway. Jim
