Hi friends. It has been a long time since I have posted here. Have been reading the back chats and like what I have read. I said that I wouldn't post anymore but I miss you all. Not much has been happening with me and my diabetes since I last posted. It has been under good control unless I am bleeding internally . Have been hospitalized twice more with it. Still aren't sure where it is coming from. Go for more tests Tuesday. My husband retired July 2nd and myself and our children gave him a retirement party July 21st. Our children really gave both of us a surprise with an all expense paid 7 nights, 6 days, round trip to Nashville Tenn. It had always been a big dream of ours to go to the Grand Ole Opry someday. We had a great time. I wasn't sure I would be able to go as I had only been out of the hospital 6 days when we left. I was fine all the time there. I am so lucky to have such caring children. When we got home, another surprise, A new bathroom down stairs. I know this has nothing to do with diabetes but I just wanted to share this with my friends. Glad to be back. Faye

FRED: I am not sure where to get the info you asked for relaitng to fresh tomatoes. BUT, on a can of tomato sauce or tomato paste that is 100% tomatoes you will find a sugar figure. The only problem is how many fresh tomatoes did it take to make that can?? I love tomatoes but prefer to eat them cooked or in a salad or on a sandwich. My wife will eat fresh tomatos just like I would an apple. I've neve cared for them like that. I will eat a bowl of tomatoes for lunch a lot in the summer time when we have fresh vine ripened ones. She cuts them into a bowl, covers them with saran wrap and zaps them in the microwave. Presto, I have a bowl of cooked tomatoes and she does not have both a pan and a bowl to wash. Herb (Bear)

FAITH: They had extreme problems getting my BS to move upwards and once they got it moving up then it would turn around and go back down. Rehab only has one doctor who is in charge and works days. There was no doctor on duty to call and I don't fully understand why they could not call for help from the regular hospital?? They not only gave me OJ but they gave me grape juice and apple juice, multiple glasses of all 3 laced with sugar. I could feel the undissolved granules of sugar in my mouth. It is a wonder that my BS did not hit the moon. It was a little high the next morning but not that high. I was transferred out to the heart dept. the very first thing the next morning and had my massive heart attack that afternoon. Herb (Bear)

Herb - I don't mean to scare anyone, but it is something all "D's" should be aware of. I woke up one night with a 27 reading. I had laid there for a few minutes trying to talk myself out of it. Go figure?! Then I could hardly think what to do. I was wondering too why those nurses didn't give you glugacon too!? With the sugar laced OJ they can bring it up too high. That's what happened w/me when I had the 27. Couldn't get my husband to give me the shot, soooo, he made me drink a (big)glass of OJ FULL of sugar. I had to work all day to get the highs down. I feel that your post and others that have episodes like that to share is very helpful to us all. Keep up the good work.

You guys are scaring me with your info that low symptoms change. So far when my BS drops into the 60s my eyes stop focusing and everything gets blurry. In the 50's I sweat like a hog in the sunshine. In the 40's I'm so weak I can't even sit up on the side of the bed. The only time I have been below 40 that I am aware of is when I was in the hospital rehab following my amputation and I saw rehab as an exit door out of that place. If the therapist told me to do 20 repititions of an exercise I did 500. I wanted out! That night I had a mild heart attack and my blood sugar dropped clear off the scale. The first number they got which was after several finger sticks was 13. I had 4 nurses around my bed. One wiping my face with a cloth with ice in it saying "Mr. Shaw you stay awake. Don't you go to sleep on me. Do you hear?" One was taking constant BS readings. One was taking constant blood pressure readings. And one was administering nitro. The next day they moved me to the heart floor where I had a major heart attack and coded. Woke up 3 days later in ICU on a ventilator. What scares me about the symptoms changing is that I understand that there is real danger of going into a coma if the BS drops low enough. I nearly always have my lows at night. What if I did not wake enough to wake Jodi. Like I said it is scary. I normally wake when the sweating starts. OH! all the nurses were pouring fruit juice down me that they had laced with sugar. CB, I gotta say that in my case, it's quantity over quality. I'm more concerned about getting enough down every day than in what's in it. I could not believe the damage caused to my blood sugars by dehydration and how long (weeks) it took to get regulated again.

Good morning everyone. Gordo- Glad to see you post. I'm still on that morning rollercoaster with my BS. An example, yesterday morning test was 93, and this morning 162. Just can't figure it out. Question for anyone: Do hypo symptoms change with time and the level of control? Back when I had my very first hypo episode, I had all the classic symptoms of racing heartbeat, sweating, drowsy and so on. Also, that one came on at 59. I'm told that due to the BS running so high for so long that it was normal to have the symptoms at that number. Over the last 12 months, sometimes when I go low the symptoms aren't the same. Yesterday I started getting a bad headache, which I almost never get, and when I checked, my BS was 47. Any comments on this? Have a good day everyone, even the poster from last night who was/is infatuated with me! Jim

About water: Tap water usually has heavy metals, insecticides, and other toxins in it, so it is best to cook with and drink PURIFIED bottled water. Toxins can put stress on inner organs. That is why antioxidants and wheatgrass juice are good to take in daily. Eat natural, minimally processed foods. You will feel better for it.

The only thing that slightly irks me is not that I wasn't wanted on there, but that now newbies have no access either. Faith, I respect you and thank you for posting that, but all that is, is a Kerry-Cop out. With 29 members, if it wasn't working, why not show the 29 members OF A FAIRLY NEW CLUB, the courtesy to send out a global email informing them that they are closing it up and why? They have that ability as a founder to send global email to all its members. It was only because myself and someone else (who can speak for themselves) joined yesterday. Coincidence? Not on your life. She is just a spiteful vindictive person! I won't bring it up again, because that would give them the "air time" to get more members. They get enough "air time" over here causing trouble AP'ing. By bringing it up, I'm feeding their little membership machine. I'm wrong to take up this place's space by doing it. Again, I won't bring it up or discuss again. Jim

Good morning everyone. So much for support! I hate to get on here and "whine", as I'm sure someone will put it, but yesterday I, and someone else from here joined the new listed BWDHome club (I'm NOT talking about the new BWD3). We both posted cordial greetings and disrupted nothing. This morning I tried to go there to see what's going on and not only has it been deleted, but the BWD Cooking site has been made private or deleted as well. I don't understand why a diabetic recipe would be "top-secret", but whatever. It's funny, their description of the BWD Home site was "A place to share your life with Diabetes". Now, unless this is a Yahoo glitch(and if it is, I'm sorry for this post. No problem getting on any other Yahoo clubs though.), why would someone who purports to "be there for support" do this? Just one more reason why I'm almost 100% sure that one of them are the disruptors over here. I guess I'll never understand why people do the things they do. I'm still having lots of problems and was looking forward to getting some insight from them but I guess not. If I wasn't wanted in their club, all they had to do was ask, and I would have left without a word so that new diabetics could find the place and get the help and support they not only need but deserve. Oh well, there's other support clubs out there but I'll end with a word of advice for you members of the illustrious private BWD: be careful that you don't piss off the Queen Bee over there, and never disagree with her or you'll be out of support too. One other thing: De- Please take me off your mailing list for your Club's cockamamie "Support" Newsletter. I don't need fake support right now or ever. Jim

It's all in how someone looks at things coupled with their religous convictions, completed with their upbringing. I visited the site and I am going to join as soon as I post this, but she warned that it would be controversial so at least I know what to expect going in. It looks like a place where we can vent about things and be permitted to get mad about things. I personally get mad about the lack of funding for diabetes, among other things. You complain here and you get crap for it. Over there I'm hoping that if I get crap, at least I'll know who's giving it. I've been a member of Yahoo clubs before, and you can't really get mad about things because the Founder s usually send you an email telling you to calm down, or delete your posts or whatever. WATER: Our water comes from a very large man made lake that is near by. At certain seasons it has a smell and a taste that is highly objectionable. It is supposed to have something to do with the algae in the lake blooming. Jodi bought a BRITA filtering water pitcher. She filters a half gallon at a time and puts it in the empty distilled water jugs from the distilled water I have to use in my C-Pap machine. She changes the filter after filtering 40 gallons of water. The filters cost about $7. After doing this our water tastes just like bottled water. OH, she freezes the full water jugs and then has them to use in the ice chest when we go somewhere and also has large pieces of ice to ice down a water melon etc. Herb (Bear)
