the reason i don't like my endo is that she seemed not even maybe concerned with the incredible highs i've been experiencing. she also doesn't seem to care that i've shot from 135 lbs. to 191 lbs. she offers no support and so advice on what i should do. my husband and i both feel shes not the doctor i should have, but there are only two on my list of endos i can have with my insurance. from the time i've been on shots, (march of this year, i thought it was november of last year, but i was wrong) i've gained some fifty six or so pounds. i don't think thats normal. or healthy. i follow my diet with a few cheats here and there. VERY FEW. my husband is like a drill sergant about following my diet. i can't understand why i'd pack on the pounds like that. and my endo acts like its normal.

Jen, Other things affect blood sugar, like infection or illness can cause your numbers to go crazy. Also, for women, hormonal changes through the month affect your numbers. Other factors that can affect you: stress, hot weather, allergies. Sometimes, it's just a mystery what's going on when you're doing everything the same.

Good morning everyone. Sam- I'm not too sure it's the citric acid, because I re-read the article at the address I posted yesterday. Here is an excerpt: "Unlike other juices of citrus fruits, grapefruit juice interacts with a variety of prescription medications by inhibiting one of the intestinal enzyme systems, according to researchers at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minn." What I was missing is the "unlike OTHER juices of citrus fruits". So I guess that answers the question. It was good to bring it up anyway because a lot of people still take their morning meds with grapefruit juice. If the article has any merit, at least people can make an informed decision. Have a good day everyone. Jim

Yep, listening to your body is critical in diabetes management, as far as I'm concerned. What reacts badly with me works wonders with someone else, and vice versa. I firmly believe that a month of frequent testing for Type IIs does a lot to help each of us figure out what we can and cannot consume in what proportions. It can be expensive if you are not covered by insurance for strips, but it sure can give you some valuable insight !

Steve: The zone diet is 40-30=30. On low calorie diets, this MIGHT be workable. On a 2000 calorie diet, we are talking 150 gm protein per day! Too much, unless you are into powerlifting, heh heh. Fat also may be too high. We each have to learn to "listen to our bodies." Diets are individual..what is balanced for a diabetic? The right answers are all over the map. I do not do well on a "standard" diet. I lose weight and strength. What is right for me though will not be right for another.

Sabrina: You might want to ask your doctor about prepared (frozen) meals and see which ones might work for you. You have to be careful with them -- most are super-high in sodium and some could be really high in carbs. Another alternative is delivery meals. You might want to check the Internet for your area to see if there is a company that will deliver. Nutri/System does home delivery -- I think 2 weeks of meals at a time. They deliver b'fast/lunch/dinner and snacks. Most of the stuff can just be zapped in the microwave; I don't think anything requires extensive prep. I'd talk to your doctor first. Some delivery diets may not be correctly balanced for a diabetic. The "Zone Diet" is really popular now -- even with a $40/day price tag -- but I am told it's something like 45% carb/35% protein/20% fat which may not be the best balance.

The only person I have noticed trying to control this board, is the same person who has been harrassing this board for years! Thanks "News Flash"...I sorta knew that..was just playing a bit. I will stick to the subject...really, fresh lemon seems to help my blood sugars! Strange...reading about PH balances..another study. Fresh lemon juice is anionic..only food that is. Basically, it helps the balance between aniotic & cationic PH, which creates energy by rubbing together. Helps the liver to detox..thereby helping the pancreas. This is simplictic, I know..but ..whatever works. I know some diabetics profit from fresh (not canned, not sweet, not bottled) lemon juice. The body can heal itself, with help of the right, individual therapies.. So they say. Actually, it's refreshing...

For the ? yime, fat loss should be used instead of weight loss. Always get bodyfat checked before discussing it with the RD or CDE. BODYFAT is the culprit, not weight. It is possible to have a BMI reading of 30, and not be in trouble, if bodyfat is 12%! Time food intake to cover activity, preferavly in smaller amounts more often. A lttle glutamine in water can slow down muscle loss over night if bs takes a dive. (Gordo, that amino will not prevent the body from protecting the brain; it will keep the bs from going as high. ) If possible, exercise early in the day to help burn calories throughout the rest of the day. Just as there are good fats and bad fats, there is GOOD bodyweight and bad bodyweight.

Sam....the person who keeps bringing up religion to you, is just doing this to get you to respond! This person has no faith! The person who writes in CAPS is the same trouble maker who has harrassed people on this board for years! I have noticed, soon this person will have no one to harrass on this board because, most have stopped coming here! Then this person will have to get their kicks somewhere else! This person claims it is not the only harrasser on this board. But, I think there is only "one" who uses other aliases, to make others think there is more then one. Because most people get bored with these kind of games and move on. But this person has been harrassing here for "years", so you see, its a sickness with this person! This board is apparently, the only thing this person has! Also this person is mean & unhappy, who's only great pleasure is in harrassing people! So, as long as this person is here, this board is of no help to diabetics!

Sabrina, You have to find the ration that works best for you and your Diabetes. ...Also lifestyle. For me, 60 pervent carbs, 25 protein, and 15 fat works well. Balance is the key. Lots of veggies each day is great. Try organic for health. Forget margarine and get your fat from olive oil, flaxseed oil, and grapeseed oil. Prteins are best gotten from animal sources. Salmon is a great sub for red meat. Just a couple of things anyone can do. Get with a nutritionist for guidance. Lastly, don't forget the multivitamin! Any healthfoods store will have a good 0selction. A list of heart healthy foods: Tomatoes and avocados (yes, they have fat, but can be worked in. Complex carbs, whole grain breads, brown rice, whole grain breads, pastas. Yams, eat the skin too. Raw nuts and th oils mentiolned above.
