Some time ago, I was asked here why I did not post warnings about wheatgrass juice. What follows is a list of "foods" that do demand warnings. White bread, over processed and stripped of nutrients and fiber. Though flour is enriched, nutriebts are rew. filtered juices, pulp and fiber are gone, along with some vitamins. glucerna, made from maltodextrin (a carb) with fats and snthetic vitamins. Its high price lowers its value. Better choices are Met-rx, EAS shakes or mrp powders. Cheaper and more nutritious. Margarines, cooking oils )except colk-pressed olive or grapeseed_) These can increase buildup in arterial walls. Better choices )non-cooking) include flaxseed and fish oils. Borage oil is another good choice. Head lettuce, a waste! few nutrients. Red leaf, green leaf, boston, romaine, and spinach are much better!

Misty... great to hear that. Vegas is so fun, as long as you don't lose the mortgage! I can't tell you just how much I understand what your talking about with getting hit, or walking into someone from the side. I do that all the time, and Vegas type places are just so hard. I have to put my right hand out slightly, not real obvious but enough to feel what I might not be seeing. That helps when you touch the wall with your hand instead of pounding it with your shoulder. I have "placed" my hand in areas in which caused embarrassment, I am sure you could imagine if you had your hand out and not seeing what your touching. But I haven't been slapped in the face yet! Well since your a 76ers fan, shall we make a friendly wager if or should I say when they get in the finals? Oh and the looking out for you, no problem and your welcome. Anytime your out this way I am a phone call away if you ever need anything. Just don't tell to many people here, I wouldn't want them to get the impression I might be a nice guy or something. Well, I have to be in Mexico on business monday so if I don't get back here this weekend take it easy everyone and I will be back Tuesday.... Marc

Hi! Back from a GREAT vacation. Marc, I also left my money in Vegas! I had no pump troubles. I was worried about the high temp of 105-110 on my insulin. It seemed ok and I tested often. Being so c;ose to all the buffet foods was a challenge. I managed to keep some kind of control. The blood in my eye made it real difficult to wlak with so many people coming from all directions. Being blind in my right eye I do not see people coming from the back or side as people from the left were covered with the blood shadow. I really got hit hard a few times. My husband was not sure what side to stay on to help me. The dark casino made matters more difficult. All inall we did have a time of it. Your A1C of 6.2 is great! Thanks for looking out for me! .....Faithie, do not let these boys get to you! I am in 76sixers land! Take care all, Love & Luck, Misty

Hi everyone-Haven't been on this board in a long while. Still struggling with the big D! I am now on Ameryl-seems to be helping. I saw on the news last night that if you eat about 5 cups of broccolli throughout the day the fiber would keep you closer to a better BS level! Yikes I hope George Bush Sr. never gets diabetes! I hope I don't glow in the dark! Take care! Suzy

Hi Everyone, This is my first visit to this site. I was diagnosed a year ago and am still learning a lot. Does anyone know what it means when the doctor says she found protein? Any info would be great.

Now there's an insulin that can work just as long. LANTUS(r) gives you the power to help manage your diabetes with a basal insulin that works around the clock with just one shot.1 LANTUS is available by prescription. Whether you're already using another insulin or LANTUS is the first insulin you've used, this site will help you get the most from this long-lasting basal insulin. You'll learn how LANTUS works and how to make it a key part of managing diabetes. You'll also find links to resources that can help educate, inform and empower you in many different aspects of a long and healthy life with diabetes. As with any insulin therapy, possible side effects may include blood sugar levels that are too low (hypoglycemia); injection-site reactions, including changes in fat tissue at the injection site; allergic reactions; itching; and rash.1 In clinical studies in adult patients, there was a higher incidence of injection-site pain (2.7% vs. 0.7%) among insulin glargine patients compared with NPH human insulin. The reports were usually mild and did not result in discontinuation of therapy.1 LANTUS MUST NOT BE DILUTED OR MIXED WITH ANY OTHER INSULIN OR SOLUTION. If mixed or diluted, the solution may become cloudy, and the onset of action/time to peak effect may be altered in an unpredictable manner.

Faith... don't forget I like the red hot ones. When I was at the doctor yesterday he told me about a new insulin, long acting. It works for 24 hours and has no increase or peak effect, stays even for 24 hours. He told me if I ever need a break from the pump, which I will with lack of insertion spots, he will use that as my "basal" rate. So even the shooters are getting better products, which is great.... Marc

Jim - patience, patience! I'm looking for those 'SPICY' jelly beans!! Marc - Shussh, I know! When my CHD was up, my doctor said it was entirely because of my 'D' being out of control. That has happened twice, so, Baycol all the time.

On Fri Jun 1 11:40:45 2001 () said:
Type 1 diabetic patients who are in good control tend to have normal levels of lipoprotein. Their composition of lipoproteins may be abnormal but the effects of this on CHD is unknown. It does, however, seem reasonable that if type 1 diabetic patients have high LDL levels that they should meet the same goals as those for type 2 diabetic patients. The position paper suggests that improved glycemic control may be more important in type 1 diabetic patients than type 2 in the reduction of CHD.

Good morning everyone. Faith- What's the hold-up? Marc- You think she's gonna stiff us? Seriously though, if anyone here is having problems affording their meds, due to no insurance go to http://www.themedicineprogram.com/ to fill out an application for entirely FREE MEDS. Jim

On Fri Jun 1 11:23:52 2001 Marc W (sdlightningbolts55@yahoo.com) said:
Faith.. let me jump in before Jim does, he doesn't like SPICY! Julie and I were discussing my diet last night and I can see where I might have a raised cholesterol. You know how you feel like you can eat anything on the pump and cover it, well maybe I was a slight bit lax on the other health issues in regards to that. So a little modification and back to normal. I gotta exercise more too. My endurance is off lately. Things like yesterday, the guys I was golfing with made a comment that they were surprised that I go through so much with the pump to take care of myself, but I was using a cart instead of walking the course. I guess I have been a bit lazy so all this combined will cause a raise so you know I will make my adjustments and go on. But no double doubles anymore? Ouch......Marc

Marc - that's a great A1c! Good work! You and the pump seem to be doing fine now! Sorry about the other problem. The only time I've ever had trouble with that is when my control wasn't so good. But, I'm on Baycol anyway. Mainly for safety's sake. BTW, tell Bambi hi! Oh, I still haven't gotten the candy yet, will this weekend, been pretty busy. Now let me get this right, chocolate (w/nuts) and jelly beans for you AND Jim, right?
