I'm sorry to see that much trouble with the pumpers. I thought it would be less of a hassle. True I take 6 needles per day but I seem to have good control that way and at least know when things go wrong, what the cause is. That is of course not always the case. It is diabetes after all, but mainly it is a good go. Faithie,....just back from a 5 hour one-way trip by plane. Went to Ottawa but like the West far better. How nice it is to come home again, your own favorite chair, your own super cup of coffee, the garden, the flowers all over the place and then at night you own bed!!! Home sweet home it is!!!! Is your RED BROOM still flying???? JOHN.

Funny story, well not really. I have been having major problems at night, getting up at 2-4 with a 300 plus. I was testing every couple of hours and not finding the time where it would either drop or go up, so last night I got up every hour on the hour. I started the night at 91. I never went under 85 or over 100 the entire night. So the one night I decide to give up sleep to pinpoint this problem I run perfect. Must be the thought of the LAKERS sweeping that kept me level, right Faith? Actually here is what I think the problem is, and I really hope I am wrong. When I change my site, sometimes I have a couple of days in which I run close to 200 and my adjustments just don't seem to work, then on a switch of sites, I will then run low, in the 60-80 range with the same rates. I think I am absorbing differently throughout my abdomen which leads me to believe that I may not be long for the pump. Like I said, I hope I am wrong. Any pumpers running into the same scenario?.. Jim...not only are they not carb free, but we all know what too much of that does also! Although it is tempting to down a pound of chocolates as a celebration of the LAKERS sweep. Do you think Faith will show up here in the next few days?......Marc

Faye... sorry to hear about the fire. Good thing everyone is alright, things can be replaced, people can't. About your eyes, it's time you take control. We have talked about this for a while now, and Gordon is right with they wait until you heal, but that was a long time ago. You were ahead of me in the film developing, and I had the hole done months ago. You need to get to another doctor. It is a one or two zap proceedure, you don't feel it, it lets light in, your fine. Stop waiting for this Dr to do it and change doctors. If you like this doctor than demand he talk to you about the laser, it's called a YAG laser, at least that's what they call it here.It is just way too long for you, and way too simple a thing to do for you to have to deal with cloudy vision so long. Now of course that's on the assumption that everything is ok with the cataract. Is it? The implant is fine? Has he said anything that would indicate what the problem is? It sounds like he hasn't. TAKE CONTROL. It is your vision he is ignoring..Faithie.... after tonight you lose home court.....Marc ...GO DOLLAR BILL!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks to everyone that responded to my post. My sister will be OK financially as they had a very good insurance policy. Mentally is gong to be another thing. Our Mother and Father and brother and his family went through the same thing about 20 years ago. Mom and Dad lost everything but my brothers house was saved. It was caused by a gas grill. When my sister-in-law turned it on it exploded and the flames went up the side of the garage, under the upstairs apartment floor and into my parents apartment. It aged them about 10 years. Fire is a terrible thing. I lost a grandson at the age of 22 months to fire. Enough on that subject.---As for my eye with the film like feeling, it has been since September 2 when I had the cataract done. Have been back to the Dr a dozen times so that is why I feel he is not doing anything for me. I know that being diabetic doesn't help, but I don't blame the diabetes on this. Have had 2 new pair of lenses since then with no help. So you can see that that is why I am discouraged.

Faye: I can relate to your Sisters house fire. It's devastating! Had one in January, half my stuff burned, the other half damaged by smoke. Just took my watercolor portfolio out, thinking it was o.k. Wrong. Black mold, everything ruined,,that awful smell! Sugars went really high, the bathroom burned. Minimed sent me pump supplies on the road. I gave up. But even the animals suvived, so I guess I was lucky. The firemen gently took my old Martin guitar out, put it down, case burned..guitar was fine too. Like a flood or tornado..fire is impersonal.

Faye: It is not uncommon to have the cloudy look after a cataract removal and lens implant. I had it on my left eye but not on my right. My Opthomologist just lazer zapped a small hole in the lens sac. They used to remove the original lens sac but have found that the implant does better and quicker when inserted into the old sac. Then it is a simple matter in his office to zap enough of a hole to permit good vision. Maybe he didn't explain it to you or possibly was going to see how you got along first. I think they prefer to wait til it it well healed before doing additional work. Ask him. Gordo

Having read all of the posts of today, it is encouraging to see so many of you that have the same feeling about this board and how being diabetic effects us all in different ways, and that we are here to help each other. Reading posts like today, trying to get everyone back on track will show new people that come across us, can see that we want to help. I have been having a lot of trouble with my eyes being blurry. My eye that I had the cataract removed is still bothering with a film like feeling over the eye. I am thinking very seriously of changing doctors as the one I have now will not listen to me when I tell him that everything is blurry and I feel that he needs to do something about the "film" feeling. My husband just had cataract surgery and is seeing just great. I will even go for a ride with him now!!!! Got some bad news last night. My sister and her husband lost their home to fire yesterday. Nothing was able to be saved, but the main thing is that no one was hurt. My blood sugars have been high this week as I have not been feeling well. Went to the Dr. today and have the intestinal flu bug that is going around. am much better today. Everyone have a good evening. Faye

May 16 - At first, residents of New Delhi wondered if they were simply going bananas in the scorching heat of the Indian summer. Certainly, the reports of people being attacked by a hairy, ape-like creature approximately 4 feet tall seemed like an episode out of X Files or, closer to home, a chapter of the mythological epic Mahabharata. But over the past three nights, media reports said dozens were injured in the mysterious attacks and two people jumped to their deaths in a panic. Delhi police recorded 39 calls of attacks by the so-called monkey man from panicked residents of eastern Delhi. On Monday night, a pregnant woman slipped while fleeing a panicked scene where a "sighting" reportedly occurred. She later died in a city hospital. The death, along with pictures in the local dailies of victims with scratch marks on their upper torsos, have shaken Delhites - many of whom initially dismissed the occurrences as "superstitious mumbo-jumbo." The weather only added to concerns. Power outages in summer are common in Delhi, forcing residents of congested lower-income housing projects to sleep on rooftops to beat the heat. And the darkness not only added to the mass panic, it also contributed to an astonishing variety of descriptions of the strange "creature."

Hi yall, 90's in Arkansas this week, high 90's at that. Jerry has one more year to retirement, Aug. of 2002, an am I looking forward to it. We still want to fish in every state in the United States, and one trip to Calgary to see Sue for sure. If you are wanting to tell me about the wonderful fishing around your part of the country, email me for bragging rights. We truly hope to see a lot of places and I want to meet faces to go with the friends I have made on this site. One thing for sure, all the walking to the fishing holes and the fishing itself, should give plenty of healthy exercise to help keep down the blood sugar. I am eager for us to pack up and go and want to start even now, planning on where to stop and go, we hope to purchase a nice camper to run around in if the gas prices ever drop, otherwise, we will look for a gas efficient comfortable car, and a lot of motel 6's, lol. Love yall, Anita aka hotpink, aka camarored.

Faithie, dear. You say we are all different and what works for one doesn't mean it will work for others. There are a hundred reasons why that statement is true. I can't speak for others, but myself, the reason I am defensive now is because for a long time we have been told that what works for us is WRONG. If it works, how could it be wrong? But day in and day out I read from a certain individual that we should never listen to our Dr's or dietitians, that we should listen to him. That's a reckless way to think, without knowing others situations. At some point it should stop, be approached as it works for him, great. But it doesn't have to be preached that it should be our lifestyle, and the fat crap is way out of hand. To constantly berate people about their weight is disgusting at best. So it may seem to you we are attacking but for me it is defending what is right or wrong, the right to expect compasion from our fellow diabetics and not belittling. I know no one can disagree with that. And I will say this one last thing, you are terribly wrong with your last comment, unless your saying the SPURS WILL BE GOING HOME!!!!!!!!!!! Take care Faithie, looking forward to them cookies and chocolates.....Marc

Misty, Well said! I do not understand at all why ANYONE wants to pick on and ridicule another on this site. Each of us are different in so many ways, the only thing we have in common is this disease. As it has been said so many times here, what works for one may not work for another. Give your ideas and ways of dealing with this disease, but do not put others down for how they cope with it. Maybe sometimes someone may come across as sounding like they have all the answers, but we all know that is not the case. What does it hurt for that person to vent. We just should not be going after each other in this way. You know, all this energy that is put into verbally going at each other, was put into helping each other, we ALL would receive the beneifits from each other. Ok, now, GO SPURS GO!!!

I was three years old when I found out that I had D. My mom had problems with me from birth. Thay told her I had allergys to milk and formula. Later they found out it was all the sugar in each of them. I was skin and bones, and always sick. My D was not caused by diet, I was born with it! I really do not understand why some people can not understand it is different for each one of us. Everything react different in all of us. Diet, meds, execise and life stress is all aa part of living life. Growing up we were very poor, I remember little or no food some times. I ate what was available to me. I understood as I got older and had health care available to me that there was alot I never knew about D because I was not a person with money so why fill me in on what I could not afford. We all come from different walks of life, lets get this board back to real issues that we can learn from. When you do not agree with some one do not point the finger at them by saying your wrong, say the way I see it or something to the effect as you see it. Some times I think we are taking out being mad about D on the people who have D. It is no ones fault. These are the cards we were dalt in life. Make the best of today. Love & Luck, Misty

I wonder, since I box for health should I tell him that he COULD box, that it is his choice to not do something healthy. He COULD golf, walking 5 miles over hilly terain is healthy, but it is his choice. His attitude is rediculous at best, then the comment about hot dogs and sausages, no muscle just fat, this guy can't be real? Can someone actually be this stupid, this ignorant, this pompous? But the more we talk about him the more he gets what he wants. So I think he should just go on being CB, and we can live our lives the way we want while just ignoring this fool. Good morning everyone. CB- OK. Our eating patterns are what "gave" us diabetes. Including you? Since about 2:30 yesterday this board has revolved around you and your eating philosophy. I DO AGREE that you have some nutritional smarts, and you should be proud of your BMI, as I'm sure everyone on here will agree, but I am only speaking for myself when I say you appear to have this narcisisstic (SP) complex that makes you feel the need to just keep things going so that you can see your name in print. I don't know. No one else here beats people over the head with their idealisms like you do. You seem to have this underlying message that diabetes IS our fault. Nearly all of us exercise to some degree and do the best we can to cope with this disease. None of us want to die or get serious complications. If I didn't know better, I'd think that you AP just so you can preach your message, but I won't accuse. It sure would be nice to give it a rest for a while. Maybe if you'd leave your email address, you and "()" could go at it there. FAITH- Only 24 hours until the "Mauling of the Spurs" begins. Have a good day everyone. Jim

You do not know that iceberg lettuce is a waste of money, you think that lifting makes you blind, that more than minimal protein and water will hurt the kidneys, that plant protein and animal proteins are just as good. (They aren't!) For stomsach problems you will think of gastroparesis instead of the crap you eat. Don't try crunches to firm up your belly,; you probably have no muscle to firm up. One major benefit of this lifestyle is increased bone density, which means better posture and fewer back problems. I look forward to the nest attack!
