Hi all and a welcome back to Debbie! I have had a few rough days after taking transplant meds that were not right for me. My mail order drug company did a substition that was not ok for me. Now I will be fighting with them over this. So far I have 270 days of cyclosporine at 300 mg a day that they want me to just throw away instead of replacing it with my Neoral. I guess they think my insurance co need to throw money away and I will need to look for a new carrier when they drop me. Debbie, sorry to hear you are dealing with a bad eye, try to keep your head elevated, less pressure on the eye and lets the bleeding stop. It is cold here, the weather pattern has been crazy! I am trying to pack for Las Vegas and keep changing my mind on what to take. Temps yesterday were 98 to 102, low humidty there. I really dislike HOT weather, anything over 90 is too much for me. Today is hubby birthday so I will sign off for now. Love & Luck, Misty

Hi Faith. Yes, I've had trouble with heat and my numbers going into freefall. It is rarely in the mid/high 90s here in Northern California, but we have one or two big heatwaves every season. Once it is over 90, I go ahead and eat rice or pasta salads, which I normally avoid. I'm small -- 5 feet and 100 pounds -- and my numbers just plummet if I am outside for very long in the heat. Talked to my endo about it and he said it was not uncommon. He said when it is hot remember to drink more water and eat carbs that will take longer to break down.

Couldn't even check it, just had to stop and get some tabs in me quick. Drove the rest of the way home, got something to eat and went to bed. I was asleep by 7 PM. I was completely wiped out. I've got my Mustang back today, will not even put the top down this afternoon. It is suppose to be 90 again. Has heat ever done this to anyone else?

I will post this once only:#1=We are all diabetics on this chat. #2=Whether we are type 1,or type 2,on pump or not, diet or oral diabetic drugs,we really ought to be here to help one another. Diabetes affects all of us in so many ways. Weight control often is a problem. The many side effects of all the varied oral diabetic medication is something we type 2 diabetics have to deal with. Being on insulin(even if we are type 2) eventually isn't it true that the older we are,and longer we are diabetics, that our insulin supply will need help? I am a type 2 diabetic, and though the oral medication I take works well now,who is to say that in time I may need to take insulin, and will it replace the Metformin and Avandia? Stabbing pains in eyes, cardiac (or family history of heart disease) will have affects on our health too. I'm reading the June issue of "Diabetes Forecast:very important issue. I myself am begining to have Nonproliferative Retinopathy. I am more concerned of further diabetic complications now. Though I am now watching my blood sugars much more carefully than ever before, trying to get a perfect reading is not always possible. My fasting bs this morning: 5.2. Last time I tested just after lunch: 6.7. Trying to get this to as close a normal range will improve my diabetes. I also have (occassional) gastroparesis. Not sure how that can be controlled,or reduced. Last night's obscene and vile remarks just frankly don't have a place on this chat. Profane words need not be used here. I for one would like this chat to go back to being a good and positive support group for diabetics of all ages, and of any type. As I learned at the recent diabetic clinic I last attended, diabetes does not discriminate-we all are in the same boat. This chat should and must serve a purpose,of helping our fellow diabetics. Marc Bernstein. I am still a "Newbie"-that's why I'm on the chat.

Suman- This is from Diabetestown., and it's not nearly enough! Over 120 million people worldwide have diabetes. It is now the third leading cause of death in the United States. Our government spends in excess of 130 billion dollars each year to treat diabetes related illnesses. Although hundreds of millions of dollars are committed by the federal government each year to diabetes research through the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and other federal agencies, our government is spending much, much more for diabetes care than on researching a cure for this disease.
