Had a day of nothing but stress+ high + lousy blood sugars. Tired of reading your insulting remarks. Leave me alone! I have never tried to provoke you in any way or manner;I tried be treat you with respect-it didn't work. Believe me,I am so sorry I ever signed on to the chat. Thought it would be helpful for my diabetes. Too bad I was wrong. I wish I could delete the chat board from my computer's memory programe. Marc Bernstein. WILL NOT RETURN!!! FED UP!!! Since I have come on this board, you have(Mr O) not only said nothing helpful to me,but you have constantly mocked me,and have tried your best to drive me away from the chat. Thank you. You have won your "game". I mean what I say,I have tried my best, but you just will not stop. It doesn't matter,(Tom K),(ANOTHER),(Mr.O) I believe I do know who you are. However difficult my diabetes becomes to deal with, whatever complications I go through,I'll work it out on my own,in my own way. Your right about one thing:I needed the assistance and support of my fellow diabetics on the chat-yeah,I did/have continued to get it,but Mr O, all of it was marred by your constant attacks. All it did was make it too hard to bear. No,I'm not a whiner, just a fellow diabetic who has had (+ continues to have) a tough time with being a type 2 diabetic. Marc Bernstein.

Last time I'm on here-to quote Samual Goldwynn:"Include me out!" I'll manage diabetes as well as I can on my own. I have been a diabetic since October,1990,(possibly before) I guess I have coped ok before I signed on to the chat, will probably work things out with my own medical support team:my own GP,reading, and continued research, plus very good diabetic specialist. Thanks to Gordon,Marc W,Faye,Faith,CB,incl Herb, and alot of other posters on here who have had something contructive to say to me regarding my diabetes. For many reasons,I figure that despite my attempts to help myself+ other diabetics here, the unknown Posters have the last word. Unless things change here, there isn't logical reason for me to continue to be on this chat. Thanks again to Marc W,Herb. Your support helped me. Marc Bernstein.

Have been poking these fingers like crazy keeping a close watch on the ole BG readings. Am going to ask my doctor, when I see him, to give me a script for my ins. company to get one of the new testers, the ones you use on your arm. The last I heard in regards to Herb's daughter, she was being fed by a tube, and not doing well at all.

I will make this real clear-ONCE AND FOR ALL TIME:-My talking about the wild plants-yes,is diabetic related. Ok:how? Well,as many diabetics on this board I am sure know, starches raise glucose sugars. There have been many advances in use of wild and edible foods for diabetic meds, including the plant(from France) used to manufacture "Glucophage". I have been reading about Jerusalem Artichoke,(a sunflower) it is reportedly a good source of insulin and less likely to raise sugars than other starchy foods. My interest/motivation is to-(1)-help myself with diabetes,(2)-by providing/sharing info with others on this board. You,Sir,are not knowledgeable about this subject, and you will find out about wild foods, and related diabetic advances on the computer-internet. That's where I found my info-plus having a doctor in my family, who is a pioneer in diabetes. I refuse to get involved in a war of words here with you,:"Mr."O". This is my position. Based upon many years of research. That's all. Marc Bernstein.

Thanks Jim for looking that up for me. You know my thoughts on children, we have talked privately about that, but as those change I guess I want to at least be aware of any potential problems. But as 13:20 said (thanks for that) why worry about something unless a problem actually arises. I am not on prozac, but I bet many here think it would be a good idea! Debbie, how are you (besides the eye)? Do you have retina tearing or should you be able to get those vessels simply? Yeah, I know better to use the word simply with that eye surgery, but you know what I mean. I do appologize for the Kings knocking the Wings out of it! I talk to Scott a lot, he sent me a newspaper from his city the other day trying to get me up there. He is doing good, said he is real busy and has comp problems so I think he can read here but for some reason he can't post. I must say I didn't remember the cat thing!... Well take it easy and thanks to those who tried to asnwer my question from earlier. It's really weird to actually be thinking about children, but I think that is a sign that I have come to grips with what happened and it's time to get on with life. Sure hope I can handle it......Marc W

To Marc in reply to: "Yesterday was a post regarding low sperm count. Being a diabetic for 22 years now, is that something I should have a concern for?" Definately it shouldn't be any concern. Obviously you and your wife have been successful at not conceiving children. If a couple was not successful after trying for a period of time to conceive then you would start to look into those kinds of possibilities. But you definately wouldn't concern yourself with those kinds of thoughts at this time in the process. Sort of like "you don't know till you try".

Tom, the principal action of glyburide results in an increased insulin release from the beta cells of the pancreas. Maximal plasma levels of insulin, after and oral dose of 5mg of glyburide in normal subjects were reached 90 minutes after dosing, mimimal levels at 120 minutes. Avandia treats insulin resistance. It helps your body use its own insulin more effectiely by making cells more sensitive to insulin. The avandia should cause no significant period of likely hypoglycemia. This information is from information from the drug companies. I find all of the companies I've talked to very helpful. Feel free to e-mail me any time. I was diagnosed just about 2 years ago so the feeling of being a new diabetic are still close by. Good luck with it. Sue

Marc- Searched all of WebMD and this is all I could find. I've fixed a few words that some may find objectional. Other Medical Conditions that Cause Infertility Retrograde ejac***tion occurs when the muscles of the urethra do not pump properly during or**sm and sperm are forced backward into the bladder instead of forward out of the urethra. This condition can occur temporarily from taking certain drugs such as tranquilizers or hypertension medication. Diabetes, multiple sclerosis, bladder neck or prostate surgery, and spinal cord injury may also be responsible for permanent retrograde eja***ation or failure to eja**late (known as failure of emission). Abnormalities of the thyroid or adrenal glands may have an indirect effect on fertility. Chronic prostatitis (inflammation of the prostrate gland) can also cause sperm motility problems. One recent study suggests that a malfunctioning epididymis that fails to coat sperm cells with the critical protein P34H may explain certain cases of male infertility. Jim

Good morning Marc. You must have posted while I was trying to. Kept getting interrupted. I'm not too sure about the low sperm count being a problem with diabetics as I have never seen anything on it in all my research for info. Diabetes is well known to cause ED (Erectile Dysfunction). Many diabetic men avoid the subject like the plague. It has or will affect a large percentage of us males. Lost of males don't want to tell their Dr due to embarrassment. It's nothing to be embarrassed about though. Sometimes it's the meds doing it to you (Prozac is famous for it). All of this can be overcome by talking to the Dr though. I know I didn't really answer your question but this is a subject not talked about enough. Jim

Caution:Do Not Use If You have Glaucauma!! (sp) BTW,Re:"Skunkcabbage"-no. Not a Cabbage. Related to really poisonous houseplants("Dumbcane") (Or "Jack-In The Pulpit") Caution: Make sure you don't confuse this with Helebore.(Rose family) Very deadly poison!! Marc Bernstein.

Vertigo:(medical textbooks) often called "Meniere's Disease"-it is an inner ear disorder. Treatment:anti-vertigo drugs:"Cerc",Atavan,Atarax..Also:A Disorder of The Vestibular System. This in turn, will cause (or contribute to) inner ear/balance problems. If you are diagnosed with either Meniere's disease,or "Post-Positional Vertigo(otherwise called "Benign Post-Positional Vertigo",first, have either MRI done/or CSCAN. (I had both) Make sure your doctor doesn't misdiagnose this:some specialists are either misinformed,or *(often due to spinal weaknesses-can't get proper x-rays..so they'll tell you it is not Meniere's,but "Tumor-Accoustical Neroma") Oh,BTW,VERTIGO also can happen due to Cardiac(heart problems) Anti-Hypertensive drugs(in.Ace inh.-like Monopril) Can also be due to trauma(head injury.-Birth) Related to Spine. Ok:I looked up on my computer about:"Horny Goat Weed":it is a herb from China. Rather new on the market. Again, like alot of these herbal drugs, our info is incomplete about it. Interesting point:alot of the starches, etc that we eat-they come from toxic plants-how about Potatoes? Yep:Nightshade family. Peppers too. Carrot Family:includes Hemlock. And what about the new and obviously very healthful veggie "Jerusalem Artichoke"-ok,it is really a sunflower. Yes,(I've had it-very tasty, nutlike flavor) but it can cause rash,or skin problems with people with allergies. Vertigo:(Yeah-I happen to have it-) I take anti-vertigo drug:Atavan(there is also "Cerc") how do they work against Vertigo? I believe there is some sort of anti-histamine effect with them..My type of Vertigo:"Post-(Benign) Positional Vertigo"-when I fall asleep,it seems to be related to eyes-what/how do these things relate to diabetes?-Simple Answer:If you have sleep deprivation from Vertigo, then because of the effect on the body's own natural balances, glucose sugars are going to be adversely affected. He took me off it-first placed me on Atarax, then Biaxin..took a couple of days before I felt better... Other time I had smoked meat-while out with family;(smoked turkey-really was ill-very bad allergic reaction:my hands became so swollen,(throat too-couldn't swallow) called my doctor,it was a week-end(holiday week-end) he was away, luckily my uncle was visiting my parents at the time-put me on Atarax-had to take it three times a day.. Since then,(15-18 years ago) I don't want to take any chances. BTW,I was out for long walk-half a mile, stopped in on way back home to juice bar-had large combo carrot/apple/pear-fresh squeezed. I find this chat so helpful, wish it had existed in my grandfather's day:he died at 69 yrs-1965. Was a bad diabetic, didn't get diagnosed till he was 55. I don't recall if he was taking insulin,or on oral meds. He always was trying to gain weight-was very thin...in youth,he used to drink egg+ milkshakes-don't remember if metabilism(sp) or why. I'll say this once only:Serum Sickness Is NOT A MENTAL CONDITION!! No. It is an allergic reaction to either certain foods-smoked meats(esp with nitrates) or certain anti-biotics. It is a severe allergic reaction-I have had it-no laughing or light matter..my fingers became swollen, and I had to take an anti-histamine for relief. Make sure your doctor knows when he prescribes meds for you. Plus, stay away from smoked meats. Anything with nitrates and you risk more allergic reactions. Marc Bernstein.

Good afternoon everyone. Marc- Agree with your post 100%. I get the feeling that I'm not the only one who interprets CB's posts as "smell me" posts. CB- While you should be commended for the handle that you appear to have with your disease, you should also understand that your regimen can't fit for everyone. I'll give you 1 of many examples. I researched wheatgrass. While it makes some amazing claims from cancer curing to toothache remedy (not endorsed or evaluated by the FDA), some diabetics CAN'T use it even if it did work due to the laxative effect it has. Lots of diabetics take meds that cause loose stool or diarreah. Unpleasant to talk about but true. Food processors payoffs? I just don't believe that you eat 100% natural/organic. And one other thing regarding payoffs, if eating a bologna sandwich once in a while would get Oscar Mayer to send me a check to cover my diabetic supplies, I'd gladly say "pass the ketchup".

My husband is always a big help and always yells at me to stop and rest. I walked today and now I have a huge head ache. I hope I recover in a few hours, Love & Luck, Misty

Gordo... don't go both ways here guy. CB... I will again oppose your position. Your an extremist, pure and simple. If you talked about the benefit of wheatgrass, than that would be good. But you question every damn thing that doesn't fit in your routine. You questioned Payoffs from proceeded food companies, you call every Dr and CDE incompetent and if you never used fat cow you imply it. So backtrack all you want, it's the delivery me and lots of others have problems with you. And yes, I am in your town every other week, next week the soonest, and I would gladly have lunch with you. It would be a pleasure to meet the one and only Squats. Now back to basics. Gordon, a new diabetic should not be scared into thinking their life is over. They should feel with good balanced nutrition, as CB kindly attacked again of whole grains, high fiber, low fat etc then they should be ok. But If I was just diagnosed and came here and saw what my doc and nutritionist was saying was being attacked and discredited and I learn that I need to be on WHEATGRASS, well as a new diabetic I might be a bit more worried that my life is over. Since we know we can balance out everything and live a normal enough life without massive restraints, then we should be able to discuss positively without reading how we don't know jack. I can keep going on this for hours, if i needed motivation I would look at my e-mail and remind myself how some of you here e-mail me about your feelings on this, but I am not wasting any more time, as per Gordons statement last week. Faye, I am happy you had a great mothers day, I knew you would. I read your e-mail about Marie, hope she gets better soon. How are Gene and Gladys holding up......Marc W... P. S. to 8:51 stop e-mailing me like we are friends and then post your crap to me here. I would have to be as dumb as you say I am to not know it is you.

Gordo, Your post was right on the money. Lets help each other and the newbies. It has taken me a long time to finally figure out that a balanced food plan and exercise is the key to helping ourselves to becoming a better diabetic, if you know what I mean. Keeping a diary or journal of what you eat, no matter what it is, will help you see what you are doing wrong or what you need to change in the way of what you can eat. I have found that by doing so, I have been able to see how a certain food will effect my blood sugars. There is a brand of Orange Juice that will raise my sugars more than other brands. By keeping a diary is how I found that out. There are other foods that I have to watch out for also. It is important that we have the food groups that we are suppose to have and to eat 3 meals a day and DO NOT SKIP ANY!!!!! Plan for yur snacks if you need them. I know that it is very hard to keep "legal" with a food plan, but it can be done if you can just set your mind to it and don't start it after a lot of damage has been done to your body like mine. I am finally on the road to taking better care of myself. Lost 27 1/2 pounds since January and feel great. Have a lot more to lose, but I know that I can do it. If I can, so can you.

Very troubled by my eye doctor's recent report:Re:status of my eyes-said there is some bleeding in my eyes indicating not as tight diabetic control over 6 months (since last eye exam) How can I reverse this-trying harder now than before, but scared-should I consider seeing endo? My GP says no,he is of old school-wants to handle everything himself. gets angry if I see another specialist without his knowledge. Marc B

Gordo, been reading your post again-one problem that I have always had is why diabetics (type 2 like me) have such difficult time with eating, esp at night...the cravings for sweets, why? It is very important to me;is it genetic weakness, body's need for certain foods? I admit I have had times that I am able to exercise strict control with "D". I often get frustrated with trying to deal with the many factors of being diabetic, and have tried to eat smaller portions, but big problem:I often eat out with family in restaurants,(or with non-diabetic friends) how do I adequately measure my intake of foods? I try to follow menus (retaurants) that say "Heart Smart-low sugar") Regarding testing,I do it often, but tend to get discouraged if my bs readings are not controlled. I am reading "Diabetes Forecast". Because of other health problems,(other food allergies) situation more complex for me. Marc Bernstein.

Wanted to add:re:diabetes-more than just food intake, affects me on many more levels;work-related stress,(stress on many levels-does really push bs up!) Anyone wanting to exchange e-mails with me(my views on "D") that's fine. CB:your posts make interesting reading;some of your viewpoints I might say I agree(limited) other viewpoints-well,you can e-mail me. Marc B.
