Dear (): Try reducing both doses
by 1 unit. Go down one more if low blood sugars continue.

Adjust your Lantus down two units and
see what happens, you are obviously on a too high dose, so drop it down two
units, and keep doing it until you have a suitable reading. Hope you sort it
out. x

I wonder if someone can help me. I'm
taking lantus in two shots a day, 12 hours apart. It's my understanding that
lantus doesn't peak like nph. My problem is that every morning between 2 and 7
my blood sugars drop, I eat something and they just keep going down, so I
something else, wait and check again and they are still slowly going down. This
will go on for a least a hour before they slowly start to come up again. This
also happens in the evening around 4 to 7. I don't know much about lantus and I
think something needs to be adjusted but not sure which dose to adjust or to do
both. Have an appointment with the Dr. in three weeks have tried to talk to them
on the phone but they are just to busy. The other drs in town are only D.O.'s so
I don't know if I trust them to mess with my insulin. When I was on nph I always
did my own adjusting, but with lantus I'm not sure, any suggestions?

Sad? In some ways, yes. But on
the positive side, your life will be better if you watch blood sugars, eat
healthy, and stay active. When you first get it is the best time to take
control. Indeed, learn all you can and do the best you can! For starters, insist
your dietitian run a basic metabolic rate to learn how many calories are needed
by you to support your life style. Don't let him/her use a chart. Those things
do not work for everybody. Get on a good vitamin supplement with plenty of
antioxidants to minimize cell damage from the diabetes. If possible, get a
personal trainer, NOT THE CDE!!!!, to help with setting up an exercise program
that will be both fulfilling and effective. There is the added benefit of
increasing circulation, a definite good in the long run. Squats

Dear (.)..I realize that.
Sorry..o.k...ANYONE having a low blood sugar is having a hypoglycemic reaction.
Whether insulin caused it, or hypoglycemia, if you have it.

Dear Rich: Some bodybuilders
consider insulin an anabolic hormone, so they take it to increase calorie intake
and muscle mass. Nothing new about this! Insulin has been part of serious
supplementation for quite awhile. Again, it is foolish for a non-diabetic to use
this stuff! Squats

Sam, So why would bodybuilders use
insulin? Perhaps you could look that up for me. I know all to well what the

Squats, Could you explain to me or
us, what the benifits would be from injecting insulin into a bodybuilders non
diabetic body. Would it be for calorie burning or to put on weight? I would
think that it must drop blood sugar because it sure does mine and I get hungry.
Does insulin drop normal folks readings if taken in many units? Thanks

Dear Rich, I have spoken to
bodybuilders using insulin and warned them of the dangers. A long time lifter, I
have found the D to be a hindrance at times, along with the ignorance of
caregivers on the subject. Currently, I am forced into a layoff; hopefully just
for a week. Squats

Well said by
all. I've started my 45th year of being insulin dependent, and I just turned 50.
My next goal is to get rewarded from Eli Lily for using their product for 50
years, if they still do that. Damned if you do, and Damned if you don't. That's
what I say about having the BIG D. Squats, maybe you could respond to the
bodybuilders taking this hormone. Does anyone here know how to get a new word
published or made into a word so the whole world can use it? I have a great one.
Thanks

Blood sugar control as you get older
can also be a big problem, as I'm starting to find out. There sure isn't

As children grow and mature,
blood sugar control can get difficult. Diabetic children must get sufficient

I know what you mean, I have three
daughters and two are afraid of getting it and will get checked every year for
it. The third is like talking to the wall, she will not get checked, I think
she's afraid to. I've been diabetic for 28 years and I'm 49 and it runs on both
sides of the family very heavy. You can't force it on them even if it is for
there own good. You just hope that they will come around, it's hard to deal with
without a support system.

explain important things to her about low blood sugars, etc. I have taken
insulin for 15 years now, both of my legs have been amputated, etc. and she
won't take the time to allow me to fill her in on the insidious disease and what
she needs to be aware of. What in the world can I do?

blood sugar starts to go down. We eat supper between 5 and 6 because of this.
After we eat my sugar levels still go down, for a couple of hours and then they
slowly start to come up again. I'm suppose to take fast acting insulin with
meals but don't at supper time until the sugars start to come up. I'm taking the
same dose of insulin that I have for a year now, been diabetic for 28 years. I
switched to lantus a year agao and take two shots a day, 12 hours apart. I don't
know what needs to be ajusted,I am insulin resistence. The lantus is taken at 7
in the morning and 7 at night, any suggestions???
