Faith... this series coming up after the next, with San Antonio and the Lakers is going to be a great series. Maybe we can make a friendly wager? Wait until 2-3 months from now. Minimed said they will be introducing a "softserter"type device for the Silhuoette. It's not bad, but the needle is intimidating. You should give it a try just for comparisons sake when they come out with that. Gordo.. he probably won't be around to admit it. But your right, not worth the effort. Hey Jim.. so you picked the Lakers? Well it's not like you were gonna pick Cleveland, right? Hope you start feeling better soon. I thought some of the burdon(sp) was lifted, are you still dealing with the same stuff? Well, take it easy boys and girls.......Marc

He deserves a great deal of respect from all us, he could have given up but didn't. He is a fairly new diabetic, and young....it sure didn't stop him and just made him more determined to go for the gold.

Fracces, please fill us in with more details if possible. Is she a type 1 or 2? Is she seeing a diabetic specialist? We can help with some of the issues if you can give more details. The general normal bs is around 120. Some doctors will adjust that to fit each case. A food plans sure helps keep better control but a lot of issues in life keep the bs changing. Testing bs is also a must! This is not a guessing game. I hope this helps and ask away we will try to help. Love & Luck, Misty

Good morning everyone. CB- I would rather have emailed you this but you leave no address. When first diagnosed 14 months ago, I lost 56 pounds, took on an exercise program to keep it off, and to this day I am very careful what and how much I eat. I didn't change a thing in my regimen and in 4 months I've gained back 30 pounds. Guess what caused the weight gain? Two of the meds! Lots of meds out there that keep us alive WILL cause weight gain. Think about that before you make your next ludicrous statement. One more thing, people like me cannot do intense sports but it has NOTHING to do with my diet. Severe neuropathy in my feet has weakened my ankles so much that I've twisted them, cracked bones etc. 8 times in the past year. Hi Marc, I picked the Lakers to take it all months ago. Iverson who?

CB... I wouldn't touch your last post with a ten foot pole. Athletes, I really only see basketball players in great shape. Football players, half are gigantic. Baseball players, well look at Matt Williams, Curt Chilling. They look like couch potatoes. Golf, well that aint I sport. All I will say CB is your point has been made several times over, and your proclamation that there is no need to debate this anymore is confusing. Who are you still debating it with? My point has always been moderation. If you increase your protein in moderation cool, if you overdue it, you will pay a price. Time will answer that one. Well I guess I will touch that post. Your comments about being a couch potato and to look around you at the obesity that the doctor prescribed diet causes, you are so wrong in saying that. First off, that is why people say you call people a fat cow. Because that is what you are saying. But have you every looked around and saw overweight people at your doctor's office and thought that maybe them being overweight is WHY they are diabetic, and not the diabetic diet CAUSED them to be overweight. You show zero compasion for those unfortunate enough to be overweight, and you act like they are just a byproduct of being lazy and eating wrong. You really are the most unsympathetic person I have ever seen. Have fun pumping iron today, I am sure you and your buddies will huddle in a corner and laugh at all the fat people.......... Lakers Rule... that's for you Faith..

I wish I could remember the names, but there are professional athletes in a variety of sports. Being diabetic DOES not prohibit us from being involved in sports. It takes an educated person with dedication to his/her care to do it, but it is done.

I readily admit I have athletic interests, especially in my training. I also realize just a handful of us here share that! The point is this...athletic people need better nutrition! The charts wprk fine for the relatively sedentary; they do not for athletic types. There is no point of debating this further! I have said before that you can't be athletic and eat like a couch potato. Insufficient carbs, proteins combined with too much fat, at least in some cases, is toying with obesity. Am I wrong? look around next time you see the endo! Look around next time you see the dietitian! What you see is the result of their counsel! If I come across helpful info, I will share it. In conclusion, I posted something some time ago saying that a diabetic could not compete in any intense sports because of dietary restrictions, leaving only moderate aerobics as an option, Physiologically, I stand behing what I posted. Must asee the doctor about slow healing; seems I can't synthesize new tissue to repair cuts. When September comes, gotta get a flu shot even though my immune system is decimated; white cells are inactive so they can't fight disease. Is this what you are looking for? A long list of can'ts? Had a busy day today. Fasting BS was 160, a little higher than what it has been but not to bad. Started house cleaning early this morning. Lorrie and her family left out yesterday morning. Miss them but do enjoy the quiet. Went to Biggs to get some hanging baskets and finally after trying for three days I got 6 of them. They were $5.00 each and they went fast. I went about 11 this morning and they were unloading the truck. The baskets were being grabbed as fast as they were set on the ground. By noon they were all gone again. Don't know if they are going to get any more in though. Hope so because I need 2 more. Worked on cleaning off the back porch today but still have a lot to do. Did get the plants moved from the back porch to the front porch though. Tomorrow or Thursday the swing goes back outside. That will make it easier to watch Jenna while she plays outside. Still have a lot of yard work to do as well. Well, I took my pill and it's starting to take effect so it's bed time for me. Hope everyone has a good night.

I just saw a report on NBC about diabetes, and they have an article on www.msnbc.com. It states that 90-95 percent of all diabetics are type 2. That sounds like a very high percent, maybe it's just that I am exposed to so many type 1's in my family that I thought it was higher. Anyway, makes for interesting reading.

Hi Faye... remember those cortizone shots are a killer for the BS. But I am sure you know that one from experience. Good to hear your getting better, I hate those long lingering colds. Call anytime. Faith... a square wave takes the units, say 8, and spread them over an equal time. If you did a square wave over 2 hours you would get an equal amount over the 2 hours to equal 8 units. It good for a big meal that will take a long time, lots of courses. The dual wave which I use most gives you insulin right away and a second amount that gets spread equally. So for me potatoes take a while but the rest of the meal doesn't. So I will use a dual wave to cover dinner , say 5 units now and the potatoes will need say 4 units over an hour and a half. Now I don't know how to do it other then with the 508, but I hope that helps. CB.. I will post that next, this one is getting long.
