I am still learning about diabetes. I was diagnosed as Type 2 in August last year. What are the glucose reading conversions between the British and American systems. Does someone have a simple conversion table for me - which shows the normal ranges of the two. I am not always able to get sticks for either so I have two glucometers to bridge this problem.

I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes 20 years ago. So I decided that I would like to do research in psychosocial aspects of diabetes and how people cope with the disease. I am conducting a study at the moment on diet and well being in adults with diabetes. If you would like to take part then please don't hesitate to contact me, it would be much appreciated.

I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes about 2 months ago; I am scheduled for "training classes" that begin in a week. I have a meter but don't know how to use it properly ! I notice a strong 'body reaction" when I ate two bites of a doughnut this morning ! I take GLYBURIDE for the diabetes, What advice do any of you seasoned pros have for the "newbie" ? Bob: 80 units of insulin does sound like a lot! With respect to baked beans for lunch; they are usually prepared with molasses.brown sugar. Corn or brown rice might be a better choice.

Again today, I was on the phone putting an order through, and I staretd feeling strange, so I explained to the lady on the phone I would call her back, as I was a diabetic and was going "hypo", I tested my B.G and it had dropped to 2.1 mmol, but I recognised that one, I dont understand why I didnt recognise the one I had on Saturday??? Anyway I spoke to my diabetic nurse and we have changed my insulin intake and altered my diet slightly.

I just can not think straight at all, when I'm Hypo, the simplest of things are a problem to me.

I had a bad hypo 10 days ago. I had the phone, my glucose meter, and pump (off!) lined up...and tried to dial for help on all three! I am trained, to drink juice. I can't think like that, but somewhere in my subconcious I know...juce first! Always! There is no mind...I am alone, but it happens because I am a "brittle" diabetic, and the b.g fluctuates. Bob...80 units of insulin is a lot! Perhaps you could investigate, with Dr's help, of course..another regimen? Your weight, activity, etc has to be factured in. I have never taken more that 10 units at a time (had a b.g. of 581 Sat)...and woke up this a.m. at 102. We are all so different! I wear a pump, use .07/hr insulin, plus bolus' usually not over 35 units a day, but I am tall, thin & active. Keep on top of it. Read. Learn about your body. Good day, all.

I only realised I had a "Hypo" when I was sitting up and drinking a sugary drink, I was soooooo embaressed. I hadnt any warnings that I recognised, it was like it had just came out of the blue.

I have that happen to me once in a while. I do everything the same as always but I go into low blood sugar and will stay that way for a long time. Sometimes it feels like I have extra insulin in my system and on one day my body uses it all up. Then things will go back to normal the next day. I don't know why this happens but it can be very scary.

Can't get my blood sugar up above 90....took 80 units insulin per normal at 8:30am, ate eggs, sausage and grits for breakfast about 9am, ....+ bbq ribs (1 and baked beans, 1/4 cup and 1/2 piece sliced bread, and about 1:30 pm sugar dropped below 80.....& has persisted for 2 1/2 hours now....have had two kiwi juice drinks @ 6 oz each, 2 orange juice drinks @ 6 oz each and 2 glucose tablets. It is now almost 4pm....any thoughts on what may be keeping my sugar low after all the above and 7 1/2 hours since I took the insulin. Usually an oj brings it up in a few minutes.

A family therapist is probably going to be no help to you at all. I have a son in a nursing home for uncontrolled seizures and that's a long story. WHAT YOU NEED is an epilepsy support group of other individuals and families dealing with this. Unless your therapist is epileptic he/she will be little help to you. There are diabetic support groups as well. Talk to your doctor about support groups in the area of depending on where you live your county health department. You will learn that you cannot overcome your feelings over seizures, you will learn to deal with each one as it comes. It doesn't get better. However, one seizure can be an isolatedd thing so don't freak out yet. She needs an electroenceophalogram - a simple scan. They can be done at home in some places. They usually start with a 24 hour scan. But one seizure may not be enough for a doctor to start scanning. For a diabetic it is important to know the bloodsugar reading at the time of the seizure.

My daughter is a diabetic and four weeks ago she had her first seizure. I have never been more terrified in my life and I feel so helpless. I feel like I have to be home all the time now regardless of what anybody else says and I feel helpless. I know she is afraid too and we are seeing a family therapist for this but those feelings don't seem to subside.

Response to 2 posts: 1. Protein after hard work does help. since it enables recovery. 20-30 gm/protein in milk or water w/fresh fruit should help. Ask any bodybuilder! 2. The key words "meal replacement powder" will bring up places where it can be purchased online.

that her doctor told her about a new idea for controlling the pain. Within 30 minutes of finishing some activity in which the muscles are really put to use ingest some protein. Of course for diabetics there is always the carb balance thing but Pete is going to try it and see if it gives him any relief at all. We certainly hope it will help him! My sister is on SSI disability for Fibro and happens to be Type II diabetic.

there are people with "brittle" diabetes for whom that is never going to happen. They have no discernable patterns, their bloodsugar readings make no sense whatsoever. Then they just test more often and compensate as necessary. And that is as good as it gets.
