Mandy and Gordo: Thank you for your supportive posts. Generally speaking, the first step toward good health is to stay active and eat right. Then, when something serious happens, see the doc.

Veggies almost "killed kidneys"? I doubt that is a legit post, because veggies will not do that, unless with end Stage Renal Disease, you overdo it on some vitamins. But with normal kidney function, eat 'em up, raw and organic!

My comments on the hospital cuisine were objective. The meals were mostly carbs. I had an operation on my lower leg. It was not amputated; I still have the whole leg. I broke it at home and no stockingette was placed under the cast. In this case, the caregivers dropped the ball. At another hospital, when the cast was removed, I had deep sores all over the leg due to blisters that got infected. The infection is now healed. No doubt, diet. lifting, and blood sugar control helped. After having this killer almost 50 years, I still have all my limbs, little neuropathy, I can still see, and when I recover, I will be back in the gym. I do not advocate bypassing medical guidance. But, as Gordo rightly said, we need to know how our body reacts to different foods and activities. For example, I tend to go hypoglycemic after eating ice cream, so I do not. Pasta sometimes has the same effect. The general principles for control are good; they just need to be individualized.

a lot of diabetics forget how important plain water is to them. Drink 8 glasses a day. Vegetables will not kill your kidneys, but lack of H2o will. Just a thought.

Roxyann losing weight is a problem for a lot of people but your goal is realistic and you can make it happen. 50 pounds of weight loss in 9 months means you will have to lose approximately 5+ pounds a month. One pound of body fat is equal to 3500 calories so each month you will have to burn or not consume 17500 calories. That means you have to adjust your lifestyle by 583 calories a day so burn them off with exercise and continue to eat what you are eating or eat fewer calories or work out a nice combination for yourself. Good Luck.

I have never seen where Squats has seriously advocated the bypassing of Knowledgable Medical Experts. I believe that these so called experts don't understand diabetics nutritional problems as well as many experienced diabetics. Squats has been advocating cautious nutrition and exercise as the first step for diabetic control. Each diabetic is somewhat different from his fellow diabetic. I advocate that the diabetic has less complication problems if he first tries to understand how this disease works or doesn't work on the normal functions of his body. Nutritional understanding is paramount in diabetic control. You must know how various foods affect your blood glucose control and what happens to your body when your BG control is hit or miss. It is your body and you alone have the responsibility to understand what is happening to it during highs or lows of BG. Even the most learned of specialists can't anticipate your specific reaction to each meal that you eat.If you could afford his presence 24hours a day every day, this understanding would develop. You can't minimize your role in your own diabetic control. I have been in and out of this site for the last eight years and have not seriously disagreed with Squats on any of his basic nutritional advice. I am not an iron pumper but envy his dedication to that form of calorie useage but at 76 years old, I don't think that it is for me. For those that know me, I am still med free and in control after over 8 years with type 2. I still have all of my limbs and watch my diet. I still strongly recommend that every diabetic should have a good understanding of nutrition and how it affects the human body. This also includes understanding how other factors affect your BG control. Thanks Squats. Gordo

In some people hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) can turn into diabetes (high blood sugar) if they gain weight. Maybe not the same disease..but same symptoms. Go, Squats!!! A good diet!!

Here we go again gang! He's going to start telling you to avoid medical professionals again, even though HE himself was in the hospital. He's going to cause someone's death one of these days by convincing them to go holistic!

Some thoughts on vitamins...When hospitalized recently, I was put on a nutritionless 1800 diet that was mostly starches and sugars. Now that I am home, on the vites again! Big salads with dark green leafy veggies, tomatoes, and fresh carrots also! 1.5-2 cups of greens. Also broccoli florets. No wonder diabetics don't do well healing! Nutrition problem! Squats

Hypoglycemia and diabetes are certainly NOT opposite of each other! Hypo (low) and hyper (high) blood sugar levels are both a part of diabetes. However, an individual can absolutely suffer the effects of hypoglycemia without being diabetic.
