We all have the same problems. It's hard to keep bs under control. Mine have always bounced up and down. Seems like lately that the bounce up is higher than it ever has been. I'm a type 1, have been for 20 years. It never is easy. Sometimes everyone just wants to be normal, eat something that everyone else is eating and you do have to pay the price. and sometimes it's not worth it.

Hey Squats, looks like you're in demand today, because I need some input from you also. Lately, walking -- no matter how brisk -- seems no longer sufficient to lower my blood sugar. However,I've noticed that an hour or so of gardening - shoveling, pulling weeds, etc -- does wonders. Am I simply ready for more variety in my physical activity, or might it be because I am using my upper body for a change? By the way, I agree with the previous poster. I've noticed bad reactions to sugar alcohol too.

To Squats, can you please explain sugar alcohol? All these new products that say "net" carbs are loaded with sugar alcohol. Do we need to count those as carbs? Every time I try a low net carb food my blood sugar goes thru the roof. Can you help?

A couploe of things here: 1. A horrible death is a high risk for those whose glucose levels are out of control. 2. Low glycemic whole grains, fruits (apples and grapefruit, for example) with sufficient protein and healthy fats (flaxseed!) go a long way toward stabilizing blood sugar. 3. Hints to raise activity levels: Use stairs where possible in malls, park a good distance from the store when shopping, never sit down after a meal, take a short jog. My favorite, of course, lift!

aspartame is nothing more than two amino-acids hooked together. There has been internet paranoia about this for years. Bottom line - - moderation and common sense.

On Sun May 16 12:47:15 2004 () said:
I heard that aspartmine which is marketed by nutrasweet, equal, and spoonful are not good for you. That it can lead to methanol toxicity and that can be deadly. The toxins also minic ms, lupus, fibromyaglia and can cause numbness in the legs, shooting pains, cramps, vertigio dizziness headaches, joint pain, depression, and anxiety. So if you can suffer from aspartame poisoning how do you know that you can trust spendra? They are all bad for you, but as a diabetic what are you suppose to do? Eat real food and sugar or take your changes on the others.

I figure I'm going to die sometime so why not enjoy life as much as I can. I can watch what I eat and be good all the time and die in a car crash or from cancer or something else. If a candy bar here and there makes me happy why not?
