A New year ahead
tomorrow...peace & health to all that read..I do hope 04' brings new hope to
us. Technology breakthroughs do allow some already. Learn to know your body
& what different foods do to it. Check your sugars often. I have been at
500+ and didn't know it. (Am a type 1..) Wearing the pump helps, but there are
mistakes. We all do that. Diabetics are just sweeter humans...Happy New Year to
all.

Notice the "if" in my post. Most
religions do allow for excuse from a fast for medical reasons! Thanks for the
correction though!

Squats: Don't be so narrow-minded.
It could be a religious reason.

Hank: I do not know why you
would want to go on a three day fast. I have read diabetics should never do
this. If it is to lose weight, you may find it will backfire against you.

Hank; There is no such thing as
oral insulin. You must be a type 2 on Micronase, or one of the other type of
diabetic oral drugs. If you fast, I would suggest: check your blood glucose
often. The oral drugs make your body produce more insulin, and you would have no
food to cover that. You may have a low blood sugar. Or do a juice fast. Everyone
is different. Check your meter, so you know. Just a suggestion.

Kay: I had steroid injections
some time ago for pain. It did cause my blood sugars to "go crazy" for awhile. I
had to carefully monitor myself and watch what I ate for several weeks. It's
tough, but if you are careful you can maintain control. Day sweats: I get this
if I am having a low blood sugar incident. Stomach problems: I take Glucophage,
which can cause an upset stomach if I don't take it with food or milk.

What you are experiencing is
normal. It's the "dawn effect": your liver stores glucose from the food you eat
and then begins to release it as dawn approaches. This provides your body the
energy needed to get up and get moving. Blood sugar levels are typically higher
in the morning because of this.

the meds for Type II diabetes are notorious for causing gastric distress,
nevermind the disease. If you are having problems you should see your doctor and
discuss either changing meds or how to take them differently for some relief

Has anyone
out there had steroid epidural injections that has diabetes 2? If so, how long
did it make your surgar go crazy? Has anyone had day sweats from the steriods or
even if you haven't had an injection? Has anyone had an upset stomach because
you have diabetes 2?

I have a question, why does my sugar
levels go up in the morning. Give you an idea at 10:30pm my sugar level would be
115. With not eating anything since say 7pm that same night, I would wake the
next morning about 6:45am and my level would be 167. What gives and how do I
correct this or tips on how to correct it.

I work
with individuals with developmental disabilities. Their challenge of diabetes is
often compounded by their lack of expressive language and cognitive abilities.
Often caregivers are woefully underinformed about the S&S and basics of
diabetes management. This frequently results in their inabilty to advocate for
the health and treatment of the individual with DD/ID and diabetes. I am very
much interested in hearing how others are approaching this significant problem.

I
have had diaberes since February this year. I am 54 yrs old with a history of
the disease in my family. My 33 year old son has Type I diabetes since he was 12
years old. I am looking for a seminar on diabetes and nutrition. I am having a
difficult time with my son who is mentally challenged, in regulating his blood
sugar. With all the frustration with him, it is causing my blood sugar to
fluctuate more than I would like. Does anyone know of a good hospital sponsored
seminar that would help me with knowing what to look for and how to better care
for myself and my son?
