John... 50 years, man you are an old..... won't go there! Congrats, man not that many marriages go 5 anymore, so 50 is impressive.Sam.. I would send you some but I don't think that is a good idea, for many reasons! If they say no, there is a pain killer called Norco, which is vicodin with lower acetaphenemin, not as bad for you. Faye... the OXY is made from the same class of opiate as Percocet. It really is for "chronic pain" and since everyone calls me a pain in the butt, I guess I am a chronic pain? I will e-mail you my phone number again, unless you think I should just post it here?......Marc W

After I had my reconstructive surgery from the complictions of my incision opening up after the heart by-pass, I was on Percersets for almost 3 months starting out every 2 hours around the clock, then the hours got longer every 3 and then 4. I was so afraid of becoming addicted to the. My doctor kept telling me that I had to keep the pain under controll to heal and get better, and we would cross the bridge of addiction if and when the time came. I was so afraid, that in the 4th month of taking them, I started to ween myself off them. I remember the first day that I didn't need any, and I had not become addicted. My blood sugars were better and I could decrease my insulin. Pain and drugs do raise havoc with your diabetes but at times it is necessary.----John V Congratulation to you and Johanna on your 50 years together. And GUESS WHAT---the snow is almost gone in my yard. Today was in the 80's Suppose to be the same tomorrow. Am going to put on some shorts and get out the lounge chair and sit in the sun to get some color on my winter white body!!! Will read my new Successful Living Diabetic Magazine that came today. Looks like a lot of good articles and recipes in it.

Bs not bad today. When I see my doc tomorrow,(fasting/"D" check up) will ask if I can go back to taking avandia (twice) in morning-I have been on them in afternoon for two weeks. He and I are trying to experiment with dosage change;in order to get better results of bs. But my readings remain high since adjusting/changing dose/time of drug! in morning(fasting):5.0 to 8.1) in afternoon,(now taking double avandia+ glucophase) it is awful-11.3--17.0 in evening,it gets better. not sure if change of drug from my previous routine has made bs worse, being careful.

John... it is mighty strong, but I know Sam's situation and that medication was made for people in her position. If the time release isn't broken, there are reports that drug addicts break the capules to break the time release, then it isn't bad. I take 20 mg's at night and 3 to 6- 5 mg "breakthru's" a day. And look at me, I am just fine? Seriously, I have a very liberal doc who believes that if pain is the cause of higher readings, that getting those readings lower is the most pressing issue. It is a class 2 triplicate so the doc monitors the use. Faithie, there is no tail either, and it does connect at the site. It is much smaller and easier to use, except that you insert by hand. They do have a "softserter" type device coming out, but it doesn't hurt. I love these in comparison to the softset. And the release is real easy. Less tape also. Marc B... I personally was told I cannot take anti inflamatories because they are real bad for your kidneys. But that is from the same Dr that gives me OXY, so it's kinda screwy thinking if you ask me. Many people here are prescribed anti inflamatories so it depends on docs I guess. Some will raise sugars so watch out for that....... Marc W... now that your back I have to use the W again!

Hi everyone. Thanks for the encouragement. I needed it. I guess my friends are like me, we read and when help is needed we come out of the closet so to speak! I'm sure that will get a response!!!! Today I took my granddaughter to lunch and we had a very nice visit just talking over linch. After lunch we went and looked at stoves. Am getting a new one before hubby retires. Got a new dryer last week and washer a few months ago. Now for the baking, I can't wait. Homemade bread and biscuts, and cassrolles. Have a lot of good diabetic recipes for them. That should help me get started again on the food plan.---Marc, I can't find your phone number. Was going to call you the other day just to talk. You always boost my spirit up.

Oxycontin my doctor will give me only when under much pain. It is strong stuff. Below is a list which converts your HbA1c test number into your Average Blood Glucose (mg/dl): 14= 360 13= 333 12= 300 11= 270 10= 240 9= 210 8= 180 7= 150 6= 120 5= 80 The following is used for your bloodsugar tester. Anyone outside the US uses the Moll system. Conversion is easy. 180 US is 10 Molls. So 5 is 5X18=90 The 18 (18.1) is the figure to keep in mind. BS means bloodsugar....nothing else, no, no!! JOHN V.

Marc - does the the Silhuoette have a quick release so you can take the pump off? This Quick set comes off right at the injection site. No 'tail' hanging down! Sam---at the injection site there is a round plastic disconnector that is about 3/4". I haven't taken it off yet, but will tomorrow morning. You just squeeze the sides together and turn toward an arrow on the tape that holds it in place and pull it off. Then snap it back on. I think I'm going to like this! Marc.. I'll think about your suggestion. FAITHIE!!!

Sorry Sam, you got in ther while I was typing. You should ask you Dr about OXYCONTIN. It is made specifically for chronic pain and they have a low dose, time release. I use it for my shoulder. Also, you go through so much, don't force the issue, let it come to you. I notice you get frustrated when you can't get back on track, maybe try less hard and just let it come to you. E-mail me or call anytime. Jim, sorry to hear that. Hang in there, somethings gotta break for you. You guys scared the hell out of me with Tomlinson at 3. We got lucky and you guys did well. Hi Sue, hope things are well with you. FAITHIE.... would you consider trying the Silhuoette? It is so much better. It lays flat on your stomach, feels more comfortable. Hey, you know what? You wouldn't lay off me about the pump, maybe I could just pay you back with the Silhuoette? Just kidding, but that set has many advantages, but it's a little harder to use. Considering you get a week, that shouldn't matter. I am sure this will bring a scathing response, but LILLY, I find your writing skills to be entertaining. I laugh at your posts, which is obviously the response your looking for. I don't encourage you to continue, this isn't the place for it. But as for that or attacking, "Lilly" is the lessor of 2 evils. You should write for a living. I could see you have a good sense of humor. And no, it is not me trying to make me sound good for writing it. I wouldn't have the ability to stay to detail as this person has, nor would I try. .......Marc

It is so sad to see what has happened here. The person, or persons that have been posting all the crazy things, has really caused so many to just stop posting. I feel that this person is hoping that we will all go to another chat board and forget all about this one, and that is just as sad. On each chat board there are new and old friends, all looking for the same thing, support and information. Can't we give to everyone?---------I have been and still am having trouble getting back on track since my last hospital stay. My food plan is what I am havng trouble getting back to. Have wanted to post for help and encouragement, but due to what has been going on here, I figured it would be useless. I haven't seen my friends here for awhile. narc B The best possible way to protect your eyes is to be in good control of your diabetes. I lost an eye due to the big D.They will probiby take pictures of the back of your eye. It will show new blood vessels that are forming. They are very weak and can bleed into the vitreous fluid. Then come the laser blasts to kill the weak ones. Have you had laser treatments yet? Your job has nothing to do with it.I still have flashes. They drive me nuts. Diabetics also have a problem with cataracts. Hope this helps.
