TO 19 19 54 Not being a BEAN expert I did not know this but I do know they are delicious and produce way-way less gas

Well you have "sort of" given up on pinto beans. The anasazi bean is a member of the Phaseolus family and is related to the pinto bean.

Is it true that if a case of flatulence from beans is severe enough it will cleanse your colon?/?

BEANS!! We had given up on pinto beans due to the gas and what they did to my blood sugar. A friend introduced us to Anasazi Beans. They are grown in southwest Colorado and have 75% less of the gas causing ingredient and are absolutely delicious. We have never seen them in any store. But you can get info on them and buy them through this URL http://www.anasazibeans.com/beans.html

Squats Beano is a waste of money in my book. Took beano on couple different occasions and the gas was twice as bad as just eating the beans, is this something you read again or is this something you have experiance in?

Squats, Are you getting angry that someone here is asking about something other than diet? It seems that most of what you know about this disease is about food choises and weight training. I would like to hear people's views on vision loss, heart disease, amputations, high and low blood sugars, foot problems, not from any books or magizines but from the people that have these problems. You seem to tell us all about what you've read and not what you have experianced We all know that type 2 is pretty much self induced by what one eats and what one does with their life style. What, Can't you be more compassionate? Sorry if I misspelled any words.

On Mon May 5 13:26:41 2003 To Barry (Re :Beans) said:
The best way to deal with beans is to START SLOW. Starting with canned beans is easier for most people. Eat 2 to 3 tablespoons of beans a day to start and try to work them into what you are already eating. Put a few canned garbanzo beans on your own salad, take some refried beans (read labels- look for low or no fat) and put them in your dinner, open a can of Baked beans and eat a little as a side dish with your meal, make a small bean salad with beans and other things that you already enjoy and eat a little for 2 or 3 meals. You will start to learn which ones you like the taste of and it will get easier soon.

Barry: A product called "Beano" is supposed to prevent that. Also, consider enzymes; they too can help. Also: read carbohydrate count of everything you buy. Go for products with minimal sugar. Keep the fiber up. This should help somewhat.

I read somewhere that beans are a good natural blood sugar lowerer. Can anyone tell me if it is true? And how can I address the farts after. Want to really get my diabetes fixed but dont want my family to get stunk out. Please help.

I agree! There are more issues than diet and lifting! On the other hand, I could say with all this stuff about another drug being tested, Give it a rest already!" I take 5 prescriptions including insulin, and I hate taking them! Maybe we have said everything that can be said about Diabetes! If so, why even bother posting?

On Sat May 3 23:11:49 2003 () said:
Hey Squats Sure seams and sounds like this disease has control of you instead of you controling it. Give it a rest already, there are more complications and issues with diabetes then diet, and pumping iron, and running around.

On Sat May 3 21:11:35 2003 Squats () said:
Hey Berkeley grad!!! Are you against pushing the iron like most people with Diabetes? It seems so, judging by your first (and only) response to what I said. I know you won't respond. Only a handful here can really discuss anything, it appears! I said nothing racist and you know it!!!! I can get better diet help from a degreed Sports Nutritionist than other sources. I can then bring the recommendations to the doctor for help in insulin dosage.

I guess, as usual, the Berkeley "educated" person didn't bother to answer my question. It is difficult to carry on an intelligent exchange of info. Diet has a lot to do with type 2 Diabetes, especially in kids! In this case, the question must be asked, "Does it work?" Something is wrong here. Too much white flour, too many processed foods, produce without nutrition, over cooking, too much sugar, too much salt, too much sodium nitrite (Scrap the lunch meat!) The food pyramid will produce fat, weak kids unless the protein is supplemented, preferebly with fish, lean beef, buffalo, and poultry. I don't mean deep fried either!!!! As I said before, kids need to be active; they need room to run. Does anyone here know that? I suspect not.

On Fri May 2 00:20:46 2003 Squats () said:
Perhaps the individual from Berkeley would care to give a reason for this problem with Diabetes. Name calling will not do!!!! Nor will charges of bigotry. I am aware of serious Type 2 Diabetes problems among American Indians. of course, any comment about that will be bigotry. So, forget the subject! Where is my wheatgrass juice? Getting a headache!

On Thu May 1 23:04:09 2003 () said:
+ not to mention lots of running around + what does that mean please ? American Indians have also 90 percent diabeties by early adulthood...Mr Squat, what is the reason for that ?

On Thu May 1 22:46:21 2003 () said:
Dear Mr Squats, I am from southern Ca and also Hispanic. I also have a Masters Degree from Bekeley. I am also diabetic and read here now and then. Your statement belongs in the records of the SCLC. Or better yet on the white power hate sites. You must have got your education from Wheaties boxes....I can understand stupidy but to state waiting till our children grow up and then starting weighlifting sounds like Nazi Germanic child Youth movement.

On Thu May 1 17:15:59 2003 Squats () said:
Diet seems to be the culprit for type 2 among Hispanics in Ca. The use of high fat foods, white flour, and fatty meats is part of the problem. Ethnic harassment is out of order!!!!!!!!!!! Ideally, a balance of whole grains, fruits, veggies and lean protein sources with minimal fat should help forestall the onset of this problem, not to mention lots of running around. Toward the end of adolescence, once maximum height has been reached, weight training should be started. That INCLUDES diabetics!!!!

To Sqauts: Try being ethical and not posting trying to use my handle, which you cannot spell properly! I only stay here because sometimes, someone posts once with a real question or comment. Of course, they don't return because of people like you and others who can only post gutter stuff. It isn't Gordo who has gone downhill; it is you and those like you.

Recent movement in the direction of "self-care", required BTW, by the insulin pump, demands knowledge. Perhaps I was too strong in the way I expressed the need to question, but that we need to ask is a given. This is too important to be sarcastic about.

To (Re. Diet), your response to Nita is correct. I would just sub "fat-loss" for "weight loss". The two are not necessarily the same. Nita, you have been given good advice! Please act on it.

You can find many sites on the internet that suggest eating plans for people with diabetes. Some have recipes and some have information. Some are combined with weight loss tips for people with diabetes who are overweight. if you just start by typing in "good diabetic diet" you will get results to start to read. Look for a diet plan that you find easy to follow and uses foods that are familiar to you. Start from there and continue to READ and LEARN.
