On Mon Apr 14 22:13:04 2003 Amount of Insulin (Is Not Important) said:
Interesting but amounts of injected insulin are related to many things. How much carbohydrate a person consumes and burns in a given time period and how injected insulin works on the individual. LESS INJECTED INSULIN DOES NOT INDICATE BETTER CONTROL according to my endo. It is just the amount that you require with your metabolism and activity to maintain normal bloodsugar levels. You will never hear your endo say" You are doing really well at your management because you have dropped 5 Units of NPH." I take 10 NPH and 4 Humalog a.m and 2 NPH 2 Humalog pm. During my teen years I was taking 40 NPH and about 10 Toronto once a day.

O: I did not add the Novalog doses in! On a given day, those will total from 15 to 30 units. That means I take between 33 and 48 units per day. I do not go for walks to exercise; I lift weights. That keeps the sugar down and metabolism up. Today, I have 1 cup of whole grain spaghetti with garlic tomato sauce and chicken for lunch. 2 oz of chicken. Depending on blood sugar, I will have an orange later. Getting back to walking, I prefer to take the stairs instead of using the elevator and like to park far from the stair to get more activity. Insulin is lower because of higher metabolism. Also, I steer clear of white flour and try to keep fat intake down. Hope this helps. Admittedly, I am a little out of the loop. Getting a 2oz serving of wheatgrass juice later. Doing what I have been doing increases my sense of well-being and ability to do things.

Squats I find it very hard to understand the kinds of foods you are talking about. Does it depend on what you do in a days time? Do you walk if so how much? You sure don't seem to take much insulin, is that because of what you eat and do? Don't mean to ask so many questions just interested in what you have to say. Thanks for the info. Stay Healthy and Happy I wish to remain nameless so forgive me. I'll call myself O

Diet, I vary according to training at the gym or not. I take 18 units Lantus at night and sliding scale amounts of Novalog to cover meals. Breakfast: two whole grain waffles with 1/2 tsp butter and diet syrup, 2/3 cup egg sub, cooked with 1 tsp olive oil, coffee with 1/4 cup goat milk. Lunch: 1/2 serving of Promax Lean Matrix Dinner: 1 serving sushi (varies!) I love eel! Butterfish, miso soup, rice. and salad. Going to the Gym today and tomorrow, so calories increased! If I do not go to the gym, Breakfast will be 2 slices sprouted grain toast with 1 tbs raw almond butter, coffee with goat milk. Lunch may be the mrp mentioned above. Dinner might be a big salad, 3 oz meat, and a yam. Use natural slad dressings. Sometimes, I will sprinkle a little bit parmesan cheese (made from sheeps milk) on the salad for flavor. Again, I vary food intake daily. My calorie needs are NOT stable. Hope this helps!

Thanks for the info re getting colloidal silver from used photo chemicals. Common sense should tell us that this is dangerous! Silver is a heavy metal and should be recommended only by someone qualified to determine need. One other thing; there are no dietary or supplemental panaceas!!!! Any product that clains to be such, I question.

Also on Seasilver where some gave themselves Wilson's disease...a buildup of heavy metals in the major organs. The place also sells a Seailver generator where you can recover colldial silver and other metals from used photo developing fluid and other used industrial chemicals. They do have a form of silver cream to help heal leg ulcers however.not these guys you gotta get it from your Doc.....I have some and it worked well. so....drink up all you Sea Silver Kings !

Steve, on "organic foods", that site is just wrong! I have sold pesticides and am aware of their toxicity! Second, just because the Gov. says something is safe does not mean that it is! Third, it behooves those of us with diabetes to "eat clean". BTW, with careful shopping, I can get organic produce at little more than the regular.

Steve, I went to quackwatch and read their posting. If correct, it isn't worth taking. There are some very good vitamins you can get that cost less. By the way, why not just buy sea veggies if you want them? I am going back to quackwatch to check on some other things. Thanks!

I believe the AP was referring to a gentleman who took large doses of this product and as a result his skin took on a blueish tint, which his doctor said was probably permanent. I did some research on the Internet and stumbled across this page which raises some serious questions about SeaSilver: http://www.quackwatch.org/01QuackeryRelatedTopics/DSH/seasilver.html I wouldn't completely discount the product, but it does seem to be overly hyped on several web sites.

"turned himself blue'? Funny, but some people might miss the benefit of the product IF it is a good product. I do not know; that is why I asked about it!

I have been on here long enough to know that most urls are false and citings from those that do exist are false. Don't Diabetics get enough misinformation and disinformation without adding to it? But SOME here do not care. Else they would cease and desist from this. What's this with the mythical website? Who does it help? What benefit does it provide? Whose life might it save? Nobody's!

Hey, Squats...hang in there! Don't let a few comments get you down. Be with those you know & trust..take care of your diabetes, and stay clean-minded & gentle as you always have been. I for one enjoy your posts. Wish I could lift, but I had polio as a kid & that's out. Bye...

Sam, looks like a few of us are helping! Whoever posted just before me isn't interested in helping anybody. Posting a nonexistent site. I have seen this before. BTW, I don't know about you, but blood sugar in me tends to go sky high after a low!!!

I didn't say anything beyond how to get out of the crisis of low blood sugar. That is an individual thing. I personally curl up with tea, whole grain toast with honey, and depending, some yogurt, 1/2 apple, depending where my sugar ends up. But that's me. When the brain is back & clear, there should be a plan for low sugars. Really individual. I test every 4 hours..A one touch Ultra won't hurt her fingers.
