Marc: Vitamin C is not the only booster for the immune system! I have read that for kidney impairment, 500 mg is max. However, that is insufficient to builod up the immune system. Ask your doc if taking a C complex with bioflavonoids will reduce kidney stress. Maybe this will help. I have found that there are ways around the ill effects of vitamin limitation! Sometimes, going with other vitamins will help. Again, whatever you decide to do, clear it with your doc. Don't aplogize for a long post.

Am using cold pressed flaxseed , with liquid V e and c twice a day as immune booster for my liver cancer, started running small fever on and off which according to the Docs may be the chemo getting rid of the tumor.....or we hope....hardest part was pulling out of closing on our 1st home....any suggestions ?

Squats, you are correct about the taking of vitamins (like vitamin C,and adding strength to one's immune system.) Good hygene is very important. I do take vitamin C to give my own immune system strength, esp when a cold is coming on..(I take 500 mlgm) One thing I have been told by my GP,is that since my kidney impairment (I'm on two blood pressure drugs (Atacand and Monopril) that too much vitamin C can have side effects on kidneys. (sorry about spelling errors) Another point I ought to make,(on a different subject) bee stings-avoid bees,if and where ever possible..I have allergies,so since I've never been stung,I've been lucky. Again, this relates to diabetes, and allergic reactions,bee/wasp/hornet stings can affect each person differently. One important thing to bear in mind:whether SARS,or the Iraq-USA war:the news media can sometimes be biased,or overkill. Important for diabetics (any kind of constant stress, and we do live in rather nervous times!) is likely to raise blood sugars..be informed, have a perspective. (sorry for long post) Marc

Marc: Thanks for the post on SARS! The old stanbys of vitamin C, cleanliness, and immune system support will go a long way toward protection from this virus. I am sorry about the AP's that still have nothing better to do than attack! Take care.

I would like to make a few points clear. First, this new viral infection,"SARS",is something everyone, not only diabetics should be aware of have all facts. It is important to be able to go about one's own daily life, despite this virus, but diabetics need to take care of themselves. There will be those who have to travel,or have families that live in other cities,we can't just avoid going out to restaurants, theatres, concerts. Speak to your doctors and medical team. Get all the info you can. You'll find (for those who live in Toronto/Canada) on the internet: from "Toronto Star" Wednesday,April 2nd,2003 From Health Canada (Ministry Of Health and Long Term Care) very timely and good advice on Proper Hand Washing Techniques to prevent spead of communicable diseases. Marc.

Ok,I have not been on here for a long time, and I really have no further interest in this chat, since nameless APS who have nothing better to do than to make personal attacks on alot of people who post here, and sed to post on this chat and the other one. My main issue is "SARS". It is of concern to every diabetic. Our immune systems are going to be affected. For those who have to travel, use common sense, caution, good hand washing. To the poster at 18:12:46: what has your posting to do with the "SARS" health crises, and how it will affect diabetics,as well as other people whose immune systems are compromised? I think my post is legit. Marc.

Use glutamine? Yes!!! Doesn't raise blood sugar to dangerous levels, preserves lean tissue, and increases general well-being. Yes, my doctor knows I use glutamine.

Squats is that what you use?

Have never seen an application of glutamine for mental problems. It is used to reverse body wasting caused by serious illness. It CAN be used in Diabetics, if and only if they will try it after doing their own research!

Chris: As soon as the stress of infection ends, control should improve. I understand type 2's may require insulin when a bad bug hits! BTW, keep the immune system strong with appropriate vitamins!

This is the first time I have had the stomach flu since being diagnosed with Type 2. How long does it take blood sugars to return to pre sick levels.

Whaer is everyone? Why should anyone post a legit question here when there will be either an attack or no answer? Read a question about glutamine; no answer! Diet questions; no answer. Asked Gordo a question about certain teas; inaccurate answer! Usually go to other sites with questions, and I do have questions! OK, Sam is not an orthodox Christian, but she still has diabetes! And she posts her name! Most of the last posts have been anonymous without anything worthwhile to add! Let me conjclude with the inanity, nonsense, arationality, incoherence, silliness, and other labels that can be applied to posting one word, "Kaddish." Again, when we get back to legit diabetes issues, then this board will be beneficial.
