a religious person it would no doubt be good for you to pray for him. As to the
decision on the life support that decision should have been up him. Did he leave
a living will??? If not did he ever express his feelings regarding a situation
like this. If he did neither of these you and the rest of the family are
unfortunately going to have to make a tough decision as to what to do. My
thought and prayers go out to you and all the family. Herb (Bear)

Gordo, I was planning on a liquid diet for a couple of days, maybe oatmeal +
water for a few days and then a low fat diet. I was on Atkins diet for 4 days
and thats when I started throughing up and sent to the HOspital. My
tryglicerides and cholestero were SUPER high and the next day, they dropped ,
but they were still high. I started to take chromium, omega, vitamin E and
Centrum. Also, started excercising. By the way, I am not Fat!!! But I guess that
I am not eating well at all. I worry about all the sweeling because it may be my
kidneys (and also a little drinking and smoking during easter vacation).

Does
anyone on here have information on Charcot foot, or know of a website with info?
I had one toe amputated last October due to infection, it healed fine, then I
went back to a regular shoe and the foot literally split apart into three pieces
(around the arch). Had three pins put in on 12/6/00, and had them removed 6
weeks ago. Was on crutches through the first of March and also in a 3-D boot.
There had been plenty of good bone growth and the doc let me start wearing a
regular shoe last Tuesday. I wore a shoe for that one day and now the foot has
"shifted" (his words) and isn't stable...doesn't seem to be holding up the
weight of walking, so I'm back in the immobile boot. The x-rays taken last
Tuesday were the second ones since the pins have come out and were the first
ones taken after I'd worn a regular shoe for the day. A few of the orthopedic
surgeons consulted and feel that it is a case of Charcot, but they hesitate to
give me any indication of how this may heal or how long it may take. I go back
for more x-rays and to see the doctor in one week, just to see how it's doing.
I'd appreciate any info on Charcot foot that you have. Thanks!

"Why is any particular behavior wrong?" How do we decide what things are
right and wrong? Doe we leave it up to each individual or to a certain group or
to society in general? If we follow any of these courses, we will soon find that
our moral standard changes depending on what the current opinion is. This has
always been our problem, trying to direct our own steps apart from the Law of
God. Jer. 10:23. In order to know if anything is right or wrong, we must be
willing to follow an objective standard that is outside of ourselves, the Bible.
It is God who has created us and has given us a Law by which we should live. His
commands are for our good and it is our purpose to submit to Him so that He may
be honored by our lives. Eccl. 12:13-14. When we violate His Law, it is wrong,
sin. God is the one who decides what is wrong, since He is our Creator and
possesses all wisdom and power. Psalm 51, especially verses 1-4, Romans 3:23, 1
John 3:4, James 2:1-13.

Norma: There
are many things that can cause your problems. These should be discussed fully
with your doctor and your nutritionist. You didn't mention OTC drugs and Rx
drugs like beta blockers, estrogen, and prednesone, smoking, excessive alcohol
use, weight gain, fat intake from diet, stress, exercise, and numerous other
variables. Switching to a balanced healthy diet will not hurt anybody but it is
a rather slow way to get control of your problems. Do exactly as your doctor
prescribes and if you have doubts, get a second opinion from another doctor. In
your case, and your current conditions, the choice of a good cardiologist that
understands insulin dependent diabetes, or an endocrinologist that understands
cardiology. As a start, from a nutrition standpoint, obtain nutritional help.
Cut your intake of saturated fat with no red meat for a while, skinless baked or
broiled chicken or turkey breast, baked and eat broiled cold water fish 3 times
per week, increased soluble fiber from oatmeal, beans, peas, and asparagus for
the natural way of reducing your triglycerides and cholesterol. A reduced level
of caloric intake of balanced nutrients is the best way to keep those numbers
down. Increased weight gain also lets your insulin efficacy decline thus causing
the need for increased insulin. There are many supplemental ways of helping
reduce your high numbers but balanced nutrition is still the best. Anything else
should come from your doctors who can adequately monitor your condition. Never
self-administer diuretics as they severly change your electrolyte balance and
can result in death far faster than many other treatments. Only your doctor can
prescribe this and other drug treatments for your symptoms. Please do not self
treat your conditions by following comparative advice, even mine. Nutritional
balance and caloric limitation, without the use of fads or "miracle cures" are
beneficial to everybody. Gordo
