Sam: Keep at it! You are right in controlling blood sugar! Other things are important also, but keeping the blood sugars down is the main thing, not the only thing, but the main thing!

..boy, I WISH I could lift! I had polio as a kid, so can only walk, swim & ride horses..and the horse left years ago. She was hard to ride. But walking..muscle uses glucose, drops my sugar by 100 points sometimes. I always carry juice. Have a good day everyone...stay safe & keep your sugars under control, any way that works for you.

Faith: If you follow your Doc's suggestion, lift every other day and do only cardio on the days you do not lift. Recovery time is needed. You will still benefit from the exercise!

Got my last doctors report on my blood work and everything was good except for my A1C. It was 7.7. The doctor said my next one should show improvement because of my increased exercise program. Isn't it amazing what exercise will do! Yesterday, for example, before starting my 1 hr of exercise, my BG was 278, afterwards it was 135.

I had been going on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays for an hour, but, my doctor said going everyday for at least 30 mins would be better. I've gone everyday this week, except Wednesday. Will see how this goes. I usually ride the bike for 20 mins., do one round of 10-15 reps on the weight machines, then walk for 20-30 mins on treadmill. It is making a difference in size too, not weight so much as inches. Clothes are fitting differently too.

Hope you all have a great day!

Squats: Thanks for the info...I will get protein test strips, then TELL my Dr...if they show something..she is so busy, I go each month, but I forget to bring it up, I have many things wrong at this time. I don't eat much meat, not red, organic if possible. A1c was 6.8 last time, who knows this time?

Sam: First will be an increase in creatinen spillage (the waste from muscle breakdown) then the kidneys will start leaking protein. Preventatives include moderate protein intake (this may require amino acid tabs) to prevent muscle loss, lots of water (preferably purified) and regular 24 hour tests of protein spillage via collection of all urine for 24 hours. Protein test strips are available to get an idea. Dr. will often prescribe ACE inhibitors and blood pressure medication to reduce kidney stress. Strict sugar control is helpful also.

I doubt that censored posts are censored because of disagreement; if that is being done, only the hateful, bigoted posts are being removed! Even though many disagree with my nutrition stance, none of mine have been deleted. If one is decent, then no worry about deletion!

RE Food Pyramid, I couldn't find the article on CNN. Is it Fox? Carbs are not carbs! RDs should warn against white flour, white rice, and other grains of which the nutrients are milled away. It appears they do not. Why not yams or yukon potatoes verses white potatoes? When mashing potatoes, leave the skin on! (fiber and nutrients). Eat veggies and fruits raw or lightly steamed without salt or fat. Buy organic. I suspect too many do not do their jobs! Otherwise they would say what I have just posted.

Water and nutrients: It was suggested to me that liquids only be consumed 1/2 hour prior to meals and 1 hour after to allow for maximum absorbtion of nutrients. Has anyone here heard of that? Oviously that would apply to water soluble vitaamins like vitamin C. I take 3 grms/day and don't want to lose any of it!

I posted the last post, not Jill! I apologize.

On Sun Mar 2 18:16:23 2003 Jill () said:
Jill, this can be avoided by 1. Sipping some juice when exercising 2. Testing blood sugar every two hours after finishing. 3. Immediately after you are done, have a complex carb with 14-20 grams of protein to keep glucose up. As always, let your blood sugar be your guide!
