Squats, I looked at your question on strips, I do not use them so I looked them upon the net and also found nothing...so don't always accuse the Ap's of not answering..sometimes there is no answer.

In response to an unanswered question about foot lotion, Eucerin works well. Along with flaxseed oil added to diet, it can help revent dry feet.

Barbara: Let me say that your sister would benefit from basic diabetes education. Perhaps a clinical trial of a new medication would help, but if she is on insulin, (I hate to say this.) that may be the only course of treatment for her. As always, she needs to communicate with her caregivers. I am just posting this to agree with what has already been posted.

Same old, same old, same old....it's not WHAT Squirts has to say - it's the WAY he says it. Personally, I don't care how versed he is in diet and exercise - - he's an egotistical buttwipe who has no clue how to relate to people. Too bad his people skills suck so badly - - he could probably have alot to offer otherwise. If people hate your guts, you're not going to get them to listen to you!

Barbara, I agree with other AP, your sister need some basic diabetic education. If you want transplant information pick any website. Search transplant on your browzer.

Barbara: perhaps you should get some basic diabetic education. I don't intend to sound cruel - - but there is no such thing as being "upgraded". You may have Type I and Type II reversed. If she was taking meds, she was type II - - type I requires insulin. I'm not clear why you think your sister would benefit from a research study....but, if you live anywhere near a major teaching hospital, you can contact the endocrinology division to see if they are running any protocols or clinical trials. But honestly, it sounds like what she truly needs is education, nutritional guidance, and a good healthcare team.

I need to know where my sister can get into a study program, somewhere they are doing research on Diabetes. She's only 43, diagnosed two years ago with type one and now it has been upgraded to type 2, b/c the med's didn't work good enough to control it. She's now on insulin. thanks bye

Pamela: You do want to drink lots of water (purified) and monitor protein intake. Strict control of blood sugars can help preserve kidney function. Check with your doctor about protein intake. It must be monitored. At the same time, keep communicating with him or her as it can be difficalt to function on these restrictions if muscle is broken down with subsequent loss of strength. The recommendation to avoid salt is a good one. Personally, I do not add it to anything or cook with it. A healthy lifestyle will help too. Make sure you get plenty of exercise. Also, try to avoid medications that can stress the kidneys. AP-north unit was right on with his post.
