Pam, don't worry too much...I have been living on 1 kidney for almost 40 years, right now it is working at about 30 precent which is still fine...you need to drink lots of water, stay away from any infections, and just go about your life. You do not say what your Creatine and BUN tests are, you can ask your Doc and look up the tests on the internet which will explain them in detail. You want to be very careful of your intake of protein...nuts, red meat, milk and dairy products , some types of green veggies such as spinich with hi Phos content, as well as use as little salt as you can...do NOT use ANY sort of protein supplements, especially whey products.I have also been on dialysis and was able to get off. Great on the weight loss ! This will hell more than anything. You can also look on the American Kidney Foundation AKF.com website for more information.

To Mon 6:22:35. Check the date of your source. Research is always bringing about changes in diabetes treatment. If loss of aerobic fitness due to smoking forces a more sedentary lifestyle, then blood sugar can go up as a result. Quitting the habit makes a lot of sense.

Smoking with Diabetes is not good! It can impede circulation, cause loss of physical endurance. Then there is the cancer problem. Nicotine does speed up metabolism, so when people quit, without a change in lifestyle, bodyfat increases! If it makes good sense for the non-diabetic not to smoke, that is doubly true of the diabetic.

I guess few here read real questions! Note the question asked by someone newly diagnosed below! Just one response!

On Tue Jan 7 13:59:14 2003 Smoking (A Wise Endo Said) said:
Hi. My endo said that although smoking doesn't do anything to a person bloodsugar it does a lot of damage to your feet. If a person has diabetes that also does a lot of damage to the circulation in your feet, so he explained it was like a double dose of damage.

Yes, JohnV -- please do tell us what positive posts you've made here lately! Compassion is not a word I'd use to describe Squats. Judgmental & obsessed -- definitely. Compassionate -- NOT!

Squats - why don't you answer the question: What have the majority of your posts over the last 3 or 4 days added that is positive and helpful to this board? You easily condemn everyone else acting like you are the only true source of knowledge and wisdom. Climb down from your ivory tower and add something of value. Otherwise, make good on your threat to leave and disappear.

Once more Squats, I ask the question: By your own definition, the subjects to discuss here are diabetes, control of it, discussions of med side effects, diet, exercise, complications, etc. Your last 3 posts contain practially nothing of value on any of these topics, with the remote exception that your legs are sore. Well, mine are, too, so what? What value have you added to the discussion. Nothing, except criticism. Please do not make idle threats to leave. Just don't let the door hit you on the way out!
