Faith... a 5? Maybe he'g got too
good a hold on things? Isn't that a little low? When I came in at 5.6 I was told
I wasn't allowed to go any lower. I know you will like this part, if you have
pain at certain times of the day, and you have it pinpointed as to how high you
go, then all you have to do is go temp basal for that time. It took me about ten
months to pinpoint a certain time that I flare up with pain. Now that I know
when and how high, I kicked up my rates, which is why I asked how high you go in
rates at night, I went up by .6 an hour for a 3 hour period of time that I tend
to really badly hurt. With the pump I was able to nail down a rate that covers
the pain. The pump really is a beautiful thing, aint it? I know you and your doc
know this, but the liver panel test is a key test to how you are reacting to
anti inflammatories. I am sure that's part of the standard tests they order on
us. Has the PT helped you at all with the shoulder? 12:04, that last sentence
was so key. Everything in moderation with physican's direction. Most warnings
say consult your doctor if you are diabetic, not a blanket don't take it. Really
good point there, thanks.... Marc

Marc, Your right in regards to
the pain elevating the BG levels. I'm trying now to get an appointment. It's

BTW, my husband had one done last week and this is w/o taking any meds for
the diabetes. His A1c was 5. So he has really gotten a hold of this thing.

PERVERSION!!!!!!!!!!! () said:
FORT WORTH, Texas - A businessman and former
pastor was charged with possessing child pornography after a photo of a nude boy
appeared during a computer slide presentation he gave at work, officials said.
Employees at Exel Inc. told police that James Andrew Smith had finished a
PowerPoint slide show Sept. 4 when he tried to open another document on his
laptop computer. The image of the young, nude boy appeared on screen, according
to the co-workers. Smith blamed the image on a computer virus. Authorities later
found child pornography on computer disks seized from him, according to a police
report. The company also turned over 65 pages of printed child pornography
allegedly found in Smith's desk. He was held on $300,000 bond on two counts of
possessing child pornography and one charge of promoting child pornography.
Smith was fired from Exel, a Fort Worth-based computer logistics company. He
also resigned Wednesday as pastor of Landmark Baptist Church, where he had
served for 3 years. His wife of 13 years, Julie Smith, said the allegations
stunned her. "He's never hurt our children. As far as I know he's never hurt
anyone's children," she said.

DIABETICS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) said:
Laptops have always been a hot item but a
50-year-old scientist did not realise to what extent until he burned his penis.
The previously healthy father of two remembered feeling a burning sensation
after he had been writing a report at home for about an hour with the computer
on his lap. He noticed a redness and irritation the following day but it was not
until he was examined by a doctor that he realised how much damage had been
done. "The ventral part of his scrotal skin had turned red, and there was a
blister with a diameter of about two centimetres (0.8 inches)," Claes-Gorn
Ostenson, of the Karolinska Institute in Sweden, wrote in a letter published in
The Lancet medical journal on Friday. Two days later, the blisters broke and the
wounds became infected and then crusted but after about a week the unidentified
scientist was "healing quite rapidly." Ostenson noted that the computer manual
did warn against operating it directly on exposed skin but said the patient had
lap burns even though he had been wearing trousers and underpants. "This...story
should be taken as a serious warning against use of a laptop in a literal
sense," he added.

Agree with Marc W. Chronic pain must be
treated otherwise the quality of life is greatly decreased. But the doctor
should be aware of all drugs the diabetic is taking and like Marc's doctor,
should require regular blood tests, including A1c, to monitor the individual's
condition. I take Aleve and Narco (a lesser form of Vicodin) for chronic hip
pain; my doctor does quarterly blood and urine tests, checking liver and kidney
function as well as A1c levels. Caution is the key word, not avoidance.
Everything in moderation with a physican's direction.

Faith.... most orthopedic docs
don't really know much about diabetes. My doc will give me Celebrex( I also take
Vicodin, Oxycontin and MsContin) but with the condition that I get a panel of
bloodwork every 3 months, and he won't renew the prescription unless I have had
the bloodwork. I don't agree with CB that anti inflammatories are best avoided,
I think they need to be used with caution. As you are well aware of with your
shoulder, pain will increase your sugar level and bad pain makes it almost
impossible to stay in control. So the question is do you let the pain create a
situation where your control is so bad you are doing damage, or do you treat the
pain with caution and be ready to stop treatment at the first sign of side
effects? Coming from someone with chronic pain and highs you wouldn't believe
from it, treating the pain is the way to go.... Marc

swelling I've been seeing lately. That is one of the side affects I read about.
Thanks for the tip!!

Supplements should be checked
with a competent pharmacist for possible medication interaction. To say that ALL
otc poducts must be avoided is extreme. Do not use Glucerna!!! Anti inflammatory
drugs stress the kidneys, so are best avoided. Are they more dangerous than
protein? I do not know. Perhaps someone here will know. It is OUR responsibility
to check this stuff out.

checked with the pharmacist who said this is so new there is not much info on it
but down in the small print there is a warning about hyper- gycemia. My shrink
said to quit taking it for a few days and see if it helps but I feel in my heart
this is the reason.

Weight loss is irrelevant. Fat
loss is the concern. RE the vindication of Atkins Diet, Diabetics, if they
follow it, should do so only for short periods of time. The stress on the
kidneys is too high. I agree it will help with loss of bodyfat while preserving
muscle, but why risk dialysis? At the same time, muscle wasting due to
insufficient protein is to be avoided.

As far as having to go on insulin, your pancreas is probably slowing down on
producing islets. It's just the progression of this lovely disease.
