Pete, I use to wonder why my shrinks always seemed to be concerned about the number of hissy fits I had been having. Not that they weren't concerned about the PMS, they were, but finally I asked and was told, "Squat over and cough" was did just what I was told. If you have ever had a hissy fit you probably were not able to think and were very confused. I had 21 one night when I was trying to get my husband to understand what to do and just wasn't able to get my thoughts together. That is why I don't mind if my Big Gut levels stay a little high 330-350 pounds. Neither do my doctors.

Pete, I use to wonder why my doctors always seemed to be concerned about the number of lows I had been having. Not that they weren't concerned about the highs, they were, but finally I asked and was told. Squat and the others have given you just what I was told. If you have ever had a very low BG you probably were not able to think and were very confused. I had a 21 one night and was trying to get my husband to understand what to do and just wasn't able to get my thoughts together. That is why I don't mind if my BG levels stay a little high normal, 130-150. Neither do my doctors.

Pete: Constant lows also take up all the body's energy just to maintain the basic metabolism functions, in other words keeping alert to avoid the danger of losing consciousness. Thus all the other body needs are perhaps being neglected so to speak

whats a lunes ?

On Thu Aug 22 01:32:10 2002 Squats () said:
The brain needs glucose to properly function. Extreme lows mean that the available glycogen (sugar maker) in the body is used up. Cortisol then kicks in to break down muscle into glucose, but that takes time. Damage can be done. Therefore, those lows must be avoided. I guess only a couple of us here bother with helping people anymore!

On Wed Aug 21 17:29:51 2002 () said:
Pete, constant lows can effect short term memory. I think it is because blood flow is slowed to the brain. I think that is it,but I can't remember. Seriously, that is the only thing I know of with lows.I am sure there is more, one of the lunes here might just answer a question one day. Maybe not, depends on the level of thorazine they have had today.

Dear Pete, read the post below from Faith, that is a good example of what diabetes can do to a persons mental state. Mostly Faith just pushes religion on here but once a month she fall off the PMS wagon.

Joseph Stringer. Insulin doses are individual. At your dosages, I would have extreme hypos. Activity, bodyfat percentage, age, gender, calorie intake and scheduling all play a role in determining the proper amount. BS control is the goal; keeping it as close to normal as possible. Forgot to add metabolism rate. That can be changed through exercise and proper diet.

Longterm effects of hypoglycemia: Can it cause depression, anxiety, rage and is damage permanent? Can it affect type IIs or just Ones?

Extreme lows can cause brain damage, seizures, and other long term problems. Mental state can either be dull or aggravated. Rational thinking, vision can be interfered with. When in doubt, TEST!!!!!

Then you, our prized trouble maker said - "On Wed Aug 21 04:35:55 2002 () said: Trinity ?..Squats are you pushing religion on here ? This is a diabetic chat. Take the religion to D.H.D. Thank You. Sorry Tasha religion can be a off topic preoblem herer at times." If you will notice, the first quote and the last is yours, and it obviously shows YOU using the word trinity in a religious mannar. Tasha used lower case, YOU used upper case. Now, who's bringing up religion on here? Sorry folks, couldn't resist this obvious attempt to just cause trouble by our "friend".

Hi, i am a student doing research on diabetes. My research is to involve looking for links between cows milk consumption(actually ill be looking at the proteins in milk) and if there's a connection between it and type one diabetes, I am a high school student involved in an University in the classroom Authentic Science Research and in order to start my research I need to obtain a mentor. The mentors role would be communication through either email, telephone and if possible a meeting. The mentor would just give me feedback on my research and help steer me in the right direction for different methods I may use, etc. IF ANY ONE KNOWS OF OR IS A PROFESSIONAL THAT WORKS IN THE FIELD OF DIABETES THAT WOULD BE WILLING TO HELP ME OUT PLEASE EMAIL ME AT:izzy090855!hotmail.com I WOULD GREATLY APPRECIATE YOUR TIME AND CONSIDERATION THANK YOU

Tasha, I went over all the symptoms with her, and she is not having any of the usual. The weight loss may be, as someone suggested, her losing her baby fat. My daughter is going to call their doctor.

Thanx Squats and Mon Aug 19 16:17:07. Mon Aug 19 16:28:20 2002 - sorry to disappoint you but I do not belong to any trinity *l* Faith - it may be best for Britt to have her three-month-average BG tested, that way she'll learn about how her sugars have behaved over a period of time. Just a suggestion. Has she had any other high blood symptoms, like thirst or drowsiness?

Thanks Jim! I know what you mean. But the thing is, Britt is a little overweight and just recently she has lost some weight and doesn't know why. She said she hasn't changed her diet. That is a little worrying too!

Faith- You might be. Back a year or so ago we thought my daughter was diabetic because of elevated readings from my meter. We took her to Dr and it turned out ok. I'm glad we did it. Would rather err on the side of caution. Jim

I hope I'm getting worried for nothing here, but Sunday evening my 14 year old grand-daughter used my BG tester and tested her blood. She had a 157. We tested again that night, and this time it was normal, in the 100's. The next day again she tested and it was in the 90's. I get so parinoid when he comes to my daughter or grand-daughter coming down with diabetes. Should I worry. She had gone to the local Dairy Queen and eaten some ice cream. But, as I have always understood it, someone w/o "D" should be able to keep their BG level normal. I did tell my daughter she should maybe take Britt back to her doctor. Am I worrying too much?
