CB - did you read the Best Diabetic Diet. Hasn't the way of the diabetic diet changed. Thirty four years ago, you wouldn't dare consider even one cookie to hear your doctor talk. So, I guess we have come a long way. But, I'm still looking for them to come up with a cure!! Maybe in our lifetime! One can hope!!

Faith, I couldn't get to the diabetes portion of that site! I checked the "diet-killers" portion and found some good tips. Restricting even lean chicken to a 3 oz portion does make sense for someone of normal activity levels. For others, it may be insufficient. Generally, though, it is gratifying to see bologna warned against. Thank you!

Idid legs and cardio at the gym today, had a shake, then dinner, and soon I will eat again! BG is running 100-140 today. 2 hours post lunch, it was 100. Seems to me that someone better do some reading! This goes far beyond lifting or not lifting! How about being afraid to really live. I control my diabetes; it does NOT control me!

That was a good advice to Faith: some five years ago when I went to the states as a foreign exchange student I had to carry the whole med supply with me including lancets for my glucometer and needles for my two NovoPens. So prior to the flight I had asked my diabetitian to write an acknowledgment about all the pointy stuff. Hope you have a pleasant journey!

My sister-in-law had to surrender forever 2 metal manicure things, a metal nail file and a cuticle pusher, at the airport recently. Call me silly, but if someone tried to hijack my plane with a nail file, I would just take it away from them and tell them to sit down! Even if they jabbed me with it, well, c'mon, it's JUST A NAIL FILE for crying out loud! How bad could that hurt? It wouldn't be worth taking a chance on having your supplies confiscated, so perhaps you should be prepared for confrontation with a letter showing necessity or something.

My sister-in-law told me I should call the airlines and alert them to the fact John and I are diabetics and order special meals. Have any of you ever done that? Is it really necessary? I also heard on the radio the other day that the airlines are warning diabetics to have all there diabetic gear properly identified. Since I'm on the pump, I carry extra supplies and even syringes in case of an emergency. (I learned that after my pump didn't re-connect properly and I wound up in the hospital in DKA.) Have any of you flown recently and can share with us any problems you had because of the needles you may have been carrying?
