I used to be in the high carb, high
fat, low protein belief until I saw what it was doing to me physically! I never
went vegan, but was told to carb and fat load to recover from weight training. I
was then referred to a CDE who prescribed a high carb high fat, low protein
diet. I then weighed 138 pounds and was quite weak physically. My diet was 60
carb 28 far and 12 percent protein. It did not work! The good lady did not know
what my lifestyle demanded. She is not stupid, she just did not know.
Fortunately, I worked with someone who got me questioning what I was being told,
and when I checked it out, the CDE was wrong. You do not put a weight trainer on
a diet for a middle aged sedentary female!!!! The fat was high to preserve body
weight as I lost muscle. Preserve? Try fat gain. All who have attacked me are
saying that you have no support for your position. Secondly, having been
attacked for supporting high fiber intake, I just cannot win. As far as I am
concerned, my attackers have NO credibility, and newbies should ignore their
posts. For the record, necessary amino acids come frome animal sources, therfore
you have to get sufficient meat, fish, milk and eggs to provide those aminos. If
you don't get those in the diet, muscle will be broken down to get those aminos!
When this happens, it is a sign of protein deficiency. The PETA people have no
answer to this outside of MRP's with good protein (NOT Glucerna!). But whey,
albumin, and milk protein come from animal sources. So vegan will not work,
especially for diabetics who are protein deficient. I do not expect a well
reasoned answer to this post. Thanks Apple Annie! Thanks Faith! Let me just add
this on the subject of colon cancer. Has anyone heard of a colon cleanse once a
month? That with a diet high in fiber can really help prevent colon cancer! I
don't expect a reasoned response to this either! Again, that there isn't one
makes the position I am opposing without support.

actual information. Otherwise, I can only assume you are either not very
interested in pursuing all the angles and options presented by the diabetic
condition or else you are simply not a diabetic, but just enjoy pestering
people. Nothing in medicine is concrete and unchanging, and we should all be
open to the possibility of different ways of managing diabetes. For most of my
adult life, for instance, it has been the majority opinion in medicine that
Hormone Replacement Therapy was a fabulous idea for a great many women. The
latest big study shows just the opposite. And now, I figure I've wasted enough
time on you and your ilk and will go back to scrolling right on past your
endless, mindless, baseless drivel. Have a nice day.

Well, the steriods sure do make a

breathing, soooo, on doctors orders, I had the RX filled for methylprednisolone.
BAM! Up went my BG. It has been up to 394, (this AM) and just a few minutes ago,
304. Needless to say, the ole sliding scale came into use. Two hours after
breakfast, (two slices of whole wheat with lo-cal oleo, I still had the 304.
This lovely disease is so much fun, I thought oh heck why not spice it up. I
should be off this stuff in five days. CB, I saw your post here to me yesterday.
What does "oil of oregano" do? I'll pick up some "protein shake daily with 20gm
protein, nonfat milk" tomorrow and give that a try. I know I could use some
protein. Although I eat meat, lately, I haven't felt like eating much of
anything. Thanks so much for your posts!!!

The issue with meat is fat. Lean
cuts are quite healthy. However, high quantities of leafy green veggies and
yellow veggies can reduce the chances of colon cancer. Whole fruits are also
good. If meat is eliminated, then a protein supplement must be used to maintain
metabolism rate, immune system, and lean body mass. Again, no discussion here on
this. I guess only a handful of us know our stuff. Let me know if you need help
lifting more than ten poubds!

A truly healthy pyramid will include
4-6 3oz servings of meat, and 2-4 servings of milk. This will vary, of course,
according to the physical stress in one's daily activities. This will provide a
man 100 gm protein to 164gm daily. Women of course, will not need as much. Women
would do well to get more of their protein as part of nonfat dairy products,
which will provide necessary calcium. People who are only mildly active or
sedentary will do well to reduce this further. As always, it is an INDIVIDUAL
thing. The RDA belongs in the trash.

Meat can be raised in a HUMANE
manner and prepared in a healthy way. You are denying the physiological makeup
of man as an omnivore. Just as important, the body cannot produce all the amino
acids it needs, therefore, those aminos must come from the diet, whether in food
or supplements. A healthy diet will allow for meat, milk, fish, eggs and
poultry. If not, there are many protein supplements out there to meet those
necessary dietary requirements. Concerning animal cruelty, I oppose it. I do not
usually buy veal because of the mistreatment involved with raising it. Yet, I
can buy free range beef/chicken or kosher beef/chicken knowing that raising and
slaughtering them is done humanely with minimal pain. If PETA simply were
anpother humane association, I would have no problem with it. It is just the
wacko veganism that I oppose. BTW, do not praise soy to me, since in men soy
causes hormonal imbalance when quantities are too high. Veganism is a dangerous
dietary philosophy, especially for diabetics who often suffer from protein
deficiency.

pseudo science to support its idiot agenda. Perhaps they should be taxed to pay
for the health problems caused by vegetarian diets. Ah, another rant!

"water pills" ie., Lasix or over the counter get off them for few days and drink
lots of water and your Creatine and BUN will get back in line. I have 1 kidney
function at 30 percent, and the other not at all, and a liver transplant also,
so you are a long way from really any kidney problems. Search the internet for
medical tests and you will find sites that explain all this too you.
