"To CB" Excellent, encouraging post!
I do beleieve in eating lots of fruit. After the gym, I have Metrx with whole
blueberries and boysenberry juice. I take this with insulin coverage to restore
glycogen and get suuficient protein to repair muscle after lifting. This is, of
course, for a specific purpose. Thank you!

CB: Yes that is a way to learn. You are possibly an auditory
learner as opposed to a visual or tactile learner. Food is an interesting topic
and the combination of diabetic diet and nutrition is intriguing. On another
level the concepts of other countries diets and food customs is fascinating.
Whole countries that have adapted to eating the foods which are available to
them and countries that adapt to little or no food. Groups of people worldwide
who eat only specific food groups and eliminate others. Fruitarians are a
marvelous group of reading and study material. They consume only fruit and they
LOOK great for a very long time, almost eliminates ageing. Every once in a while
an interesting article will pop up about people in a certain region who many
will live into their 100s. Scientist examine their diet and environment and look
for key factors. It is a quest. There are no concrete answers. If a person is
malnurished they can usually tell them they are but the "diet" as a whole is
blamed. If a persons metabolism shows through blood work that they are lacking
something they are supplemented usually with diet or additives. It is a giant
quest with some knowns and more unknowns. You will never put the puzzle
together. One will say do while the other will say don't depending on their
knowledge and perspective. Just use the fruitarian example. Almost all diet
educators would tell you that a diet of just fruit is a definate NO. Most
medical professionals would say the same. Some will have no knowledge of it
whatsoever or maybe dealt with it briefly at university or medical school. If
you were a diabetic who wanted to ba a fruitarian you would be HOOPED as far as
getting help that was relevant. Maybe in other countries where it was more
common but I would guess HOOPED. You would be a ble to if you used the computer
for communication and were very resourceful find people who are diabetic and
fruitarians but it would take a lot of effort although they do exist.Sometimes I
feel this is what you struggle with and why your comments are taken as ATTACKS.
You are looking for a specific area of answers to your very specific questions
and are trying to share them with people who have different interests on the
whole. Some people here find them interesting as I know I do. Others find them
threatening, controversial, intimidating, obscure and on and on and on. Thats
life. Keep up the quest. Live and learn.

"Ridicle"? I like to pick peoples
brains; that is one way to learn. I have bodyfat goals, weight goals, Aig goals.
lifting goals, etc. That REQUIRES asking questions. If vitamin reduction causes
an increase in colds, I will ask why taking sufficient to beef up the immune
system is ill-advised. (Which it probably would not be.) Just an example. If I
am given a new diet which results in muscle wasting, I will also ask. Again, to
ask is not to attack. On the other hand, if said CDE can't figure my nutritional
needs for goals and lifestyle, then it is time to look for another. Am I
attacking in saying this? No. What is the point of remaining under the care of a
professional who isn't doing the job. I am atypical, therefore the course of
treatment has to affect that!

About colostrum, a red flag should
go up when anyone says this IS the one supplement you need. That was on the site

proteins and....yes carbohydrates to stay alive. Even fats are important! At the
same time, experimenting with a supplement can be benficial, as long as careful
monitoring is done. I can't say that your CDE has looked into colostrum's
benefits, but ask him/her. For you, it may be beneficial. The key is, questionm
question, question,

Keeping yourself
lean and healthy is a holistic approach of proper diet, physical activity and a
content mind. They are all important to the daily longterm health of people
diabetic or not.A person could eat the very best food on the planet and without
activity the food would not be utilized properly by the metabolism. The best
advice to keep lean is get moving, keep active, enjoy life and be aware of what
you eat.

11:43:25 Thank you so much for your
denial of the obvious! Whast better way to respond to a question than by
vitriolic ad-hominums! Clearly, attacking is easy if you can't respond to the
question raised intelligently. BTW, is it maniacal to question dietary
approaches that do not keep people lean? Is it egotistical to get people to
think, to ask questions of their care team, that they might learn, and stay
alive longer? Am I a "doofis" SIC because I posted a rant? I can use the
recommendation of Glucerna, a worthless mix of chemicals, for a meal
replacement. Is the recommendation legit or is it based on money given by its
producers to both ADAs? I could easily get the breakdown and post a long
criticism of it, point by point. For the record, there are many superior meal
replacements, that a diabetic can use safely. It is all a matter of knowledge
and being informed. In conclusion, I will stand by my assertion that the food
pyramid is a cause of obesity. I will stand by my assertion that the government
is not to be trusted in this area! Both the food pyramid and the RDA figures
need to be revised. People vary too much for them to be of any practical use. I
don't expect a thought-through response here. Finally, the only people who are
"sick" of my posts are those who cannot or will not THINK!

was made to avert siezures in epileptics. They found out about its effect on

Another rant, and I'll get it from
the AP's for this one! Funny the gov is coincerned about "obesity" when it tells
people to shove in the carbs and keep protein to a minimum. The .8 gm/kg
bodyweight leads to muscle loss and a slew of other problems if you are
physically active at all. Don't believe me? Check out a sports doctor where you
are. RE fat intake, some professionals advocate 20-30 percent of calories from
fat to keep the bodyweight at proer levels. Are you healthy if you are within
BMI parameters with 30% bodyfat, because your diet lacks sufficient nutrients to
keep you lean? No, you are not! I am not attacking, just questioning the
validity of an approach that is problematical. Fats do play an important role in
hormone production, preventing dry skin and nerve function. The 2-5 percent fat
levels of competition bodybuilders is too low to maintain all the time. Now to
carbs; carbs are the primary energy source and the amino acids that make up
protein repair muscle, heal cuts, keep the heart strong, etc. It seems an
average non-lifter should keep protein around 75-100gm/day. If incomplete veggie
proteins are included in the count, pop amino acid tabs to get all the necessary
amino acids. I have posted all this before; suffice it to say, get the gov OUT
of our shopping carts! On the positive side, I have discovered a meal
replacement powder called "FUELPLEX" by twinlab. 5gm fat, 25gm carbs, 3 gm
sugar, 45 gm protein, and vitamins/minerals. It is sweetented with sucralose.
Good sub for a meal unlessw kidney problems are present. In that case. check
with the doctor before use. It just lacks fiber, so have a spinach salad later!
heh heh. Again, the food pyramid must be implicated in this obesity thing. In
sports nutrition that is known. I can't help but wonder if the RD's could learn
something here, do you think they could?
