I would post a response. Ask your dietitian about plain goat yogurt with garlic
as a dip for celery sticks and a little cauliflower and broccoli to "nosh" on at
night. Carbs are low, and the fiber will be filling. I am on insulin, so I can
easily cover my food intake. On oral meds, your situation is different.

I've gotten used to the ease of the Ultra meter. It's hard indeed to remain calm

We all ate out tonight;I have been eating salads for lunch/dinner. I had a
polenta and goat cheese and endive salad,with watercress. (It came with a bitter
vegie,can't recall the name-oh,yeah,rapini. When I saw my diabetes dietician
this past week,her feeling was that I ought to see an endo. This is a sticky
situation,CB. Since my GP(he's close to retirement age) sees me once a month,for
diabetes testing. He wants/insists upon handling everything medically for me.
The problem,being he has been my GP for much of my life(at least 30 years) and
though I have an eye doctor(specialist in diabetes-related diseases,my GP
doesn't like it when I see other specialists. He gets very angry. He has been a
fine and very caring doctor,my problem also is he doesn't like it if I ask too
many diabetes questions,and he quite often doesn't have the time. 8-12 minutes
(If I'm lucky) is all the time I have with him. Worried about my sister's
Lupus,she works in the film industry,is overworked,(she works as an ex for
"Dreamworks" films in Toronto. I know that anxiety and depression in diabetes
are in themselves very hard to deal with. I try to keep busy,with alot of
archival work in classical music industry. One article I was reading in
"Diabetes Forecast" magazine,discussed the many reasons why type 2 diabetics
often fail with oral diabetic pills. It worries me,and I turn to this board for
emotional support. I know that I'm not managing my diabetes as well as I
could,CB,but with so much chronic stress (in family) and with this disease,it's
pretty frustrating,though my dietician told me I was being overly hard on
myself. No,I don't feel sorry for myself at all,just I guess angry,not so much
about being a diabetic,as the fact that my sister has worse. She has a very
positive attitude. Which I try to keep in mind for myself. Of course,nighttime
eating,and the fact of food being comforting to a diabetic,force me to remember
I can't get away with this,I have to have some self-control. CB,once again,I
extend a most gracious invitation to you,if you are ever in Toronto,to meet me.
You have much to teach us here on this chat;you and Gordon and Faith and Herb

to are available over the counter. They are Glucose Tablets, they will bring up
the blood glucose. As far as getting the highs down, that is done with, for Type
2's, with diet and exercise, but, meds is often included. BTW, the Glucose
Tablets come and a couple of different flavors. I like the orange. I use an
Accu-Chek Advantage meter. I'm a military dependent and the clinic gave it to
me. I hope this helps.

my meter has lately been giving me different readings(using different fingers on
each hand.) The range is sometimes rather excentric-earlier this evening,it read
6.7. On another finger,9.4,on my other hand,10.8. I can tell you that if you
test often during the day,and you get readings that vary alot,it makes one more
stressed,which of course,doesn't help managing this disease. I'm often hungry at
night,so eating at night is always a problem,as some of these oral diabetic
pills take away some of your pleasure in eating.

tester is a necessity. Oral meds for type 2 are by prescription only. High blood

of diabetes does your father have? Orange Juice is not really used like it was
when I first started out, 34 years ago. It and candy can make the blood sugars
go up too high. He really should use gluco tablets. The symptoms you describe
can describe my hi's and low's, that's where personal testing comes in. You can
buy the testing meters at almost any drug store, Wal-Mart, etc. It is wise that
you are looking into buying one.

Intensity is the name of the game here! Expect to start deadlifting as soon as
the doc gives the ok. Found an interesting bit of info on vitamin D. Maximum
safe level is 10,000 international units. Barring any specific metabolic
problems (apart from Diabetes), 1000 iu/day should be no problem. RE infections,
higher than RDA for Vitamin C and Betacarotenes should help there. It is well
known that tolerance for C increases in the presence of physical stress. Also,
there are benefits in spreading vitamin intake over the course of the day,
especially water soluble vites. Just a couple of thoughts in the interest of
health!
