my doctor has told me that my body produces too much insulin. when i eat sugar my levels skyrocket up and then come crashing down, and i often pass out. i am now on a strict diet of no sugar, refined carbs, alcohol, caffiene, anything that is refined or contains sugar. he said that i have to stay on this diet for the rest of my life otherwise my body runs out of insulin and then i will become insulin dependent diabetic. is there a name for this?

CB=Thanks once again for the helpful and kind advice. I will check with my diabetic nutricion specialist, but actually,I find your comments, advice, food opinions most sensible, pragmatic. I think with some adjustments,I could live with your slightly different but civilized approach to eating,CB. You mentioned Papaya,I don't care for the sweetness of papaya. I find it abit cloying. (just my opinion) Re:Balsamic + Oil=I have used it,with fresh peppercorns. Goat cheese works well too. This probably sounds somewhat arcane,CB,but back in the 17th/16th century,Eggplants were referred to as "Mad Apples". Wonder if they could have been confused with a native North American plant(Wild-)-it is advised for diabetics-insulin content is low-moderate:I mean the plant called:"Mandrake Apples". Funny how so long ago, many of our fruits and vegies were thought to be in part toxic. Yet,by using them, diabetics have more of a fighting chance. Marc Bernstein.

Marc: If you are concerned about stomach trouble from salads: 1. Drink plenty of water 2. Work papaya into your fruit allowance 3. Regular yoghurt intake helps too, I have used Splenda and like it. Shop around at different health stores for prices. Also, personally, I don't sweat the type of dressing, though you may have to be more restrictive. Balsamic vinegar and cold pressed olive oil can add flavor to salads, with a sprinkling of goat cheese. (feta) Check with your RD, of course, especially since I said it.

Side effects include stomach problems, headaches, though it is well tolerated. I'm on many blood pressure and diabetic meds,so it might well be my system needs time to become adjusted to the new drug. Since I do have spill over(renal impairment) my doctor is trying to lessen/improve this. Faith, you and Jim talked about stress. It does indeed raise blood glucose sugars. Having illness in my family(my sister has a blood clot on her arm,and though Lupus was originally diagnosed, now the doctors are not sure. Amy,bless you for your thoughts. I asked a real and serious question about a new drug to help improve renal function,Atacand, and I had no answers,no support, not a word of sympathy. It seems to me that each of these newer diabetic or blood pressure meds have more and more side effects. For the diabetic type 2 person, that is hard to deal with. If your doctor tells you that a new blood pressure drug will improve your impaired renal function, and that if you,or your family has a history of heart disease, then you may have no choice-you may have to remain on the drug, unless the side effects make you too ill to tolerate it. Then, you have to try some other blood pressure or diabetic drug. Eventually,if your insulin resistance gets worse, insulin injections may be the next step. I ask the question as a type 2 diabetic, why do these pills like Avandia,Glucophage,Diabeta all end up faling in time? I'd like to know about the inhaled insulin. If you are on Glucophage or avandia and insulin, does that mean you have to take insulin injections for the rest of your life?

No Jim, you're right! It is a combination of me not checking enough, and some of the stress during my Mothers illness and subsequent death. Stress has always done a number on me! But sometimes you can be doing everything right, and zap, it all goes to pot! You are sometimes doing everything you are suppose to be doing and down the tubes it goes. Joy's of this disease!!

Faith- Not being on insulin myself, I always thought that IDDM patients would/could bring in lower numbers, because don't you inject or bolus (?) based on present reading along with accounting for the carbs of your next meal? Easier than it sounds, I know. I'm just curious, not being critical of you in any way. Jim.

Jim, the one done in Feb. is the last one I've seen. It was 9.3!! Ugh!! The one done in the last couple of weeks I haven't seen yet. Sure hope it's better!!

Oh sure, Jimbo, you help a lot. You teach us how to curse like a truck driver, how to lie like a dog, and how to stab people in the back like a snake in the grass. Yes, you teach and help a lot! Thank you!

The following is a chart for diabetics to use that will give the equivalent of your HbA1c number in average BS readings. http://www.geocities.com/diabeteschart/bloodsugarchart.html

Faith- There's no winning with cowards who attack. BTW- A clique is a group (usually small, I think) of exclusive friend/aquaintances, that keep others out. Sorry 12:23. There are only 2 cliques here: One that wants to help people, and one that wants to AP and attack. Sorry, but I'll stay in the one who tries to help. Faith- You said last week your Dr was a little upset over your HbA1c. How bad was it? Got my labwork done today, along with a Caritod Ultrasound. Been having a lot of problems. Jim

Hey, you idiot, dumb as a fence post, I don't care about YOU; just my fence post! I do care about the dummies on here who have questions that I MIGHT be able to deal with. Unlike you, if I CAN help them I don't reply. The reason that there is not enough help being given here and answers to questions is my idiotic fence posts!! Now, show that YOU care, and only post when you CAN'T help someone! LOVE, FAITH

That's nice that you don't care, Faith. Others here do care - care about more than maintaining your little clique. Do you know how many people you've ignored here who came and left because no one noticed they said anything? Must be nice not to care. Wish everyone's life could be so easy and carefree.

Oh heck!! I don't care! I just want to be able to help someone here and be helped. So, I'll just let you children, the AP'ers, just continue down your little merry lanes!

Jimbo is wrong about a lot of things, but that's not a big surprise to those who know him. Watch your back, Faith. Jimmie-boy will plant a knife there quick as a wink!

Faith- I actually don't think it's Tom. I believe it's our pal from California. I've gotten a few emails that point to that direction, plus the writing mannerisms he uses on here. Don't matter I guess. He ain't worth a nickel. Jim

Jimbo, you are so not funny. Keep trying ... Jimbo the Clown is just itching to climb out of that trash-crammed brain of yours.

Jim, thanks for the defense, but it doesn't do any good with idiots. What is so funny is how he goes after you for using the word ass and look what he said or implied about me and CB and you. He/she/it (TOM) is so pathetic!!! He isn't worth the bother!!

You keep saying "we". Are you talking about yourself and your multiple personalities? Jim

Jimbo, you are nothing more than a potty-mouth. It is sad that you feel the need to resort to profanity, but that just shows what a small mind you have. I truly feel sorry for your family; they have to be embarassed, like we are, to be around you, especially in public.

The word ASS is a generally accepted word in nearly all circles. ASS can mean an animal, rude person etc. ASS is also in the Bible, ten commandments, and used on TV all the time. ASS is not a dirty or profane word. If ASS bothers you, as much as it describes you, you should visit childrens chat rooms. When I type the word ASS it is pale in comparison to some of the garbage you post on here. Later, you ASS. Jim

Jim: Readers here should not have to "deal with" your profanity. YOU should try to exercise some self-control when typing. If you can't write something without profanity, try writing nothing at all. See? It is possible to do.
