FAITH: I
learned something from our daughter Kristen when she was here over the holidays.
She is the cardiac ICU nurse from Albuquerque. She was the one that came to me
in ICU here in McAlester and told me that she knew I loved McAlester and that I
loved and respected my doctor here but that if I stayed here I was not going to
survive in this hospital. She told me here during the holidays that she had a
major confrontation with her siblings over the decision that was to be made.
They were all voting that I should be sent to OKC to Baptist Hospital
immediately. She had to remind them that it was my decision to make and that if
I decided to stay here and take my chances they had to support that decision
even if they did not agree with it. Faith I said all of that to say that if you
know what your mother wants you need to honor her wishes regardless of how
dificult it is. I can identify with her feelings. One of the reasons the doctors
called the family around the bed to say goodbye to me 5 times the 2 1/2 months
that I was in the hospital was that I had a living will that said that I did not
want to be resuscitated or put on life support. Death is not the end it is just
a new beginning. I will be praying for you and your family as you make this
decision. Herb (Bear)

you a true story about when Jodi and I were first married. We were 20 years old
and living in some old naval air station barracks that belonged to the
university. There were 4 couples that lived in our building and all 4 were
pregnant. We decided that there had to be something in the water. One Saturday 3
of the girls, Jodi included, decided that they needed a girls day out. So they
all got spruced up and went window shopping. Being as how we were all college
students none of them had any money to spend. Now bear in mind, all 3 were
beautiful girls, but all 3 were 7 1/2 to 9 months pregnant. 3 boys in a
convertible started following them around so the girls decided to have some fun.
They flirted with the boys and talked to them at stoplights. They finally agreed
to meet the boys at a local drive in restaurant. When they all arrived the boys
offered to take the girls for a ride in their convertible. The girls agreed
since they were in our '49 plymouth 4 door. I guess when the girls got out to
get in the convertible the boys nearly burned the back tires off of it getting
out of the drive in and getting long gone. We have laughed about this ever
since. Herb (Bear)

EVERYTHING he says, which I'm sure he would say the same to me about my
opinions, but he has his right to his opinion, which you don't think he does. I
don't remember him every saying for us to ignore our doctors and all the others
you listed. (But, if he did I'm sure you will go dig it up and post it here.) I
just remember him saying HE doesn't trust them all. Anyone who comes on here I'm
sure doesn't take everything a person says about the care of their diabeties
totally as gospel. Oh, I know, you have said so many times someone may come on
here AND take it as gospel. Ok, I give you that, it is a possiblity. Welllll,
then they probably wouldn't or don't listen to their doctors anyway.I just don't
believe it would really happen. Most people come here not so much as wanting
medical advise, but as a place to communicate with those who have to live w/this
disease, and understand what they are going through. Remember this from the top
of this page: "Share your thoughts about diabetes. What works for you? What
drives you crazy?" CB's way works for him! The What drives you crazy statement
DOES NOT mean for one to constantly harange and attack people for what they post
that works for them. Maybe CB comes across to you the way you stated below, but
I would be willing to state that the majority of the posters on here do not
share your feelings. BTW, CDE stands for Clinical Dietitian Educator, I believe.
I too have come across some of them who looked like THEY needed to go to a CDE.
But most that I have seen knew what they were doing. This is one of the areas I
don't agree w/CB, BUT, just because I don't agree with him, does not give me or
you the right to berate him. I don't s___ up to him. I don't know him well
enough to do that or have any desire to. I just think you have no right to keep
going on against him and others. Sheesh, you have been doing it for about 3-4
years now. Doesn't it ever get tiring. I guess that is why I believe this is

Here is a link to a
summary of the ABCNews story that supposedly "supports" all of CB's diet
theories:
http://dailynews.yahoo.com/h/abc/20020110/hl/dietingdilemma020109_1.html Here
are two summary paragraphs: (1) "The intention of the 'low fat, high
carbohydrate' message was to encourage Americans to reduce their excessive fat
intake, particularly saturated fat, and consume more carbohydrates from fruits,
vegetables and whole grains," Kimmel says. "The message was not 'do not eat fat'
or 'eat all of the fat-free and low-fat carbohydrates that you want.' Somehow in
the whole process, the message of moderation was ignored." (2) "Clearly, whole
grains are the good guys. We do eat too many refined carbs such as white bread,"
adds Ward. "However, I refrain from slamming single foods, including potatoes.
Here we are trying to get Americans to include vegetables, and we're telling
them certain ones are bad. White bread and refined bagels are not the best
choices every day, that's for sure. However, every once in a while won't kill
you." If you read the whole story, you will see it doesn't support CB's "diet of
death." It does support a well-balanced, healthy eating lifestyle of normal
foods. Of course, that's contrary to what CB says, and we all know he speaks
from a vast storehouse of medical knowledge, experience and wisdom. So who are
we to question him?

found an oasis where they decided to take a bath. The one who had been slapped
began to drown and his friend saved him. When he recovered from the ordeal, he
wrote on a stone: "Today my best friend saved my life." His friend asked him,
"Why, after I hurt you, did you write in the sand and now you write on a stone?"
The man, smiling, replied: "When someone hurts us, we should write it down in
the sand, where the winds of forgiveness can erase it away. And when something
great happens, we should engrave it on the stone of the memory of our heart,
where no wind can erase it."

Tuesday's
unanimous decision in the case of a former assembly line worker narrows the
scope of the landmark civil rights law that protects the disabled. It was the
latest in a series of Supreme Court rulings that set boundaries on who is
covered by the 1990 Americans With Disabilities Act, and tell why. Disability
cannot be measured solely on the ability to do certain tasks at work, the court
ruled Tuesday. Whether someone is disabled also must depend on the ease with
which they perform ``activities that are of central importance to most people's
daily lives,'' Justice Sandra Day O'Connor wrote for the court. Into that
category the court put walking, seeing and hearing, among other things. The
court said it does not extend, as a lower federal appeals court held, to the
ability to perform some manual tasks on the job. The disability must also be
permanent or long-lasting, O'Connor wrote. "It is insufficient for individuals
attempting to prove disability status under this test to merely submit evidence
of a medical disability," O'Connor wrote.

Faith: communication is a 2-way
street; both the sender and receiver have responsibilities. Apparently, some
people here have a problem "receiving" CB's messages because of (a) content, (b)
style and (c) his never-ending condemnation of doctors, dieticians, etc and
setting himself up as some expert. Add to this his refusal to accept that what
works for him may not work for everyone else.

content of what you say...but rather HOW you say it!" What it is, is HOW YOU

Have to agree with 23:32:11 -- searched
www.abcnews.go.com and cannot find anything that supports CB's claims on here.
CB: please share with us your medical training/education (where you went to
school, did residency, practiced, etc.) What qualifies you to tell people to
stop listening to their doctor, diabetes educator, nurses, dieticians, etc. and
listen only to you? You really stuck your foot in it with your "squat till you
vomit" comment. Makes me a believer! (NOT!)
