Mary: No. 30
minutes properly timed will help to not add more fat if your diet is closely
controlled but it will take more to remove excess body fat. I like to walk for
about 30 minutes when I overeat like next Tuesday. This helps me from getting
too high after my meal. I do not take medication so I don't have to factor that
in, but I have to walk more to control it. Are you trying to lose weight or just
not gain any? E-mail me if you want detailed information. Gordo

Hi All! Merry
Christmas! I haven't posted for awhile, but have occassionally read posts. Been
super busy with the usual pre-Christmas preparations. Also I had my cortisone
shot 3 weeks ago for the tendonitis in my elbow. I had two shots accually, one
in the elbow joint, theother on on top of my arm right over the tendon. I'm not
sure I would ever do it again...but it sure did the trick. After suffering for 7
mos. I am pain free and have full mobility back. I still have to be careful and
type left handed, till I get to physical therapy and get some strength and
dexterity back. The part that makes me say I'ld never do it again, is how it
screwed up my b/s. It's been so out of whack and my Dr. didn't prepare me for it
even tho I asked her. She is no longer my Dr. She said it would be no big deal
and would only have high b/s for 24-48 hrs. My new Dr. and the Diabetes educator
said 2 weeks wasn't unusual. I'm now taking 30 MG of Actos and 1.25 MG of
Glyburide, and after 48 hrs, it has brought things down in normal range. I have
to be careful I don't go too low, but no problems so far. My first Dr. wanted to
put me on insulin, didn't even remember I was taking Actos and she had my chart
in front of her....My new Dr. after 1 visit took the time to check with the
injection clinic about the cortisone and how it affects diabetes, and called me
at work to give me more information. I was clearly impressed with her caring and
asked her to be my new provider. She agreed and I'm quite happy to have an
advocate finally. Mary: Definitly you need to watch the carbs...it pays to learn
to carb count for your meal planning. You may even find out as time goes by that
some things you've been eating affect you differently. I've been diagnosed 3
yrs. and have always been able to have pasta, potatoes, and rice in small
amounts. Now I can't touch them without my b/s going thru the roof. Something
that someone else has no problems with, you may not be able to have because each
person is different in how their body reacts. And like I said, even that can
change over time. Don't give up, just learn to be flexible and deal with it. If
you don't, it'll drive you crazy, and there's enough in life do deal with
already. Gordo: Thanks for your research and passing on what you;ve learned.
You're a definite asset to this site. AP'S: I don't know why you think preying
on this site like a nasty virus is so much fun. I pity the sad state your life
has become. Everyone Else: If absolutly no one!!! answers or acknowledges these
pesty AP'S they will eventually go away! Please don't let them have the upper
hand. They only have power if we give it to them. I personally refuse to let
them bother me. It's really easy to use the scroll bar to pass over their posts.
Please don't let them win! Connie

Mary: The
term Carbs in diabetic communication should but many times does not equate to
Carbohydrates or carbohydrate value. For example, a 91 gram portion (1/2 cup) of
LA CHOY Stir Fry Vegetables has only 5.8 grams of carbohydrate in it plus mant
other nutrients. A 100 gram portion of baked peeled sweet potato (1/2 cup) has
24.3 grams of carbohydrate. 82 gram portion of sweet corn (1/2 cup) has 18.4
grams of carbohydrate. An 88 gram portion of broccoli (1 cup) has 4.6 grams of
carbohydrate. A 1 cup portion of Kelloggs Corn Flakes has 26 grams of
Carbohydrate. An 84.9 gram portion of Asparagus has only 1.5 grams of
Carbohydrate. One slice of wheat bread weighing 25 grams has 11.8 grams of
carbohydrate. 1 tsp of sugar weighing 4 grams has 3.996 grams of Carbohydrate.
You have to be careful choosing the carbhydrate value of a food portion. The
type of carbohydrate is very important as this is what is converted into the
glucose that we readily absorb into our blood. The glucose content of our blood
is what we measure with our finger stick procedure. Many things affect this
glucose reading. Some of these are: fiber in out meal, fat in our meal, protein
in our meal, Stress in our life, glucose used by creation of useable form of
energy in our billions of cells in our body. Pound for pound, our brain and our
heart consume more glucose than many other body parts. Exercise is still the
best way to use up our excess glucose from a meal before it is converted into
fat stored in out many fat cells. Fat accumulation in the body of the diabetic
make more difficult the job of our natural or artificially produced insulin. The
principle role of this insulin is to transport the glucose in our blood into our
cells for energy conversion. This transport is primarily by the process of
Receptor-mediated endocytosis. Fat interferes or plugs many of the insulin
receptors in the millions of cells in our muscles and fat cells. Some of our
organs receive glucose by a different method. As you can see, our bodies are
very complex structures that are influenced by many different factors. Two days
of instruction is not sufficient to fully understand what diabetes does to your
body. You will still be learning how it works and what not to do 10 years from
now. The moral is to study and learn continually as science is constantly
developing new discoveries and interpretations that affect your and my diabetes.

Cowardly () 10:40:03, You can not possibly be so ignorant of the English
language. I was making reference to going back in history and using some alleged
incident as an excuse for your cowardly actions now. It is very similar to your
jab about religion. You know my comment had and has nothing to do with religion
you just believe that you can get me stirred up by making some sort of religious
slur out of it. Unfortunatyely for you and fortunately for me I have enough
going on in my life right now that you cannot possibly raise my blood pressure
or sugars. Herb (Bear)

Thanks to everyone for the advice
on peanut butter. I took 2 days of diabetes classes at the hospital in November
but still have questions. Before I took the classes though I was afraid to eat
any carbs---was mostly eating veggies and yogurt (has carbs. They taught me how
to divide up the carbs throughout the day. So the classes really did help.
Thanks again for the tips. Mary

Hi y'all, I
can't believe what has happened to this board. Of all the good posters we once
had we are down to just a handful. This board seems to just disseminate (SP)
hatred and venom. This board once was active in helping each other and
especially the newbies that came here. I'm sorry but I don't believe that the
operators of this board will ever do any thing about it. To many people have
tried for far to long to get them to take some sort of action that would aid in
helping this board. I have to ask myself if it is worth it for us who would like
for it to be a positive influence once again to hang in here and do what we can.
Should we just bail out and use some of the other boards that are available? I
have real trouble dealling with all of the historical excuses that are offered
for various actions. I have posted here for quite a while and have yet to see
some of the things people are accused of as an excuse for someone's venom. I
would think that we could all if not really love each other at least tolerate
each other at this season of the year. I some how doubt that all of our AP's are
even diabetics. If they were they would be a little bit more tolerant of others
with the same affliction. To all of you please note that Jodi and I do love you
and hope the best for you and all of yours all year long but especially at this
time of the year. Herb (Bear)

I'm not sure I understand
all that you are saying, Kamal, but I have developed terrible hardening of the
planter fashitis (sp?) the muscle that goes along the bottom of my foot. I
finally saw a podiatrist this week who says that it is the equivalent of carpal
tunnel but in my feet. So, now I've had to get ugly shoes and expensive ($80)
custom insoles. And my feet still hurt. But, on the bright side, Dairy Queen
orange-vanilla bars and fudge bars are sugar free and count as 1 diabetic starch
exchange. This was a happy discovery!
