Support Menu Labeling in Philadelphia!

This fall, the Philadelphia City Council will vote on a bill that would provide people with easy-to-read, easy-to-find nutrition information on menus and menu boards for foods sold at fast-food and other chain restaurants in Philadelphia.

We encourage you to contact your City Councilmember and recommend they vote in favor of menu labeling. You can find your councilmember by visiting: http://www.phila.gov/citycouncil/maps/.

Dear Councilmember:

I urge you to vote in favor of the menu labeling ordinance, No. 080167, which would require fast-food and other chain restaurants to list important nutrition information on menus and menu boards in Philadelphia.

Although Americans eat out more than ever before, few restaurants provide nutrition information. As a result, we often are getting more calories than we realize. This can be particularly problematic for people who need to watch what they eat to manage health conditions such as diabetes, high cholesterol, or high blood pressure.

Nutrition labeling on menus and menu boards would give Philadelphians an important new tool to help us eat well and maintain a healthy weight. It would provide information that would allow people to take responsibility for their own health and make informed decisions for a significant and growing part of our diet.

Please let me know if you will vote in support of Councilmember Blondell Reynolds Brown’s menu labeling bill. Thank you for your consideration of this important health measure.

Sincerely,
