Does anyone here take the 70/30 mix.? Wondering how well it works

I'm type 1 and went to the dr today. I'm on lantus and he thinks that the lantus is doing it. Since it is a long acting insulin that it takes along time for the sugars to come up once they get low. I also have alot of other issues going on right now, but it sounds like he might change my insulin later after we get some other things settled. I wish we had a diabetic dr around here. We don't have one even close to us. The nearest one is on the other side of the state. :Or the next state over. We need more dr's

Well, I'm not a doctor but I'll throw my 2 cents in. I guess it depends if you're a type 1 or 2. If you're a type 2 maybe something is going on to decrease your insulin resistence, like maybe you lost weight, or you exercise more. Still, if you've decreased your insulin, that should have helped.

what do you think is going on when: you take insulin and eat a meal, then later it goes done more, so you drink some juice, check again and it is still going down? I don't know what to make of this. My sugar will keep going down so I keep eating and drinking juice, and it takes hours before it will start going up again. I have cut back on the insulin and it doesn't seem to matter. What do you think is going on?

I got knocked down by a 30 lb. cat I am taking care of this a.m. He wanted OUT! He hit like a brick. My knee surgery is next Thursday, and I tried to protect it, now I have a wet butt too. Don't bite off more than you can chew! For a week I have 2 houses to care for. Hopefully the surgery will enable me to walk again. My cartilage is torn. My pride too. Be peaceful with yourselves, and don't overdo, if you can.

Depression hurts. It really hurts. I don't trust people who've never felt it to understand.

On Fri Mar 16 08:43:08 2007 () said:
I think depression is something that we all go through sooner or later. I have also been diabetic for 23 years and have been feeling depressed. My dr. thinks that I should go cybalta because it is also for diabetic nerve damage. I have been fighting going on meds but also know the signs of when it's time. You should really talk to your dr about it, there are alot of different meds out there and they can find the right one for you.

On Fri Mar 16 05:31:48 2007 () said:
Hi Jett. I've been battling it for a while. They say it's a complication of diabetes but it's also related to heart disease, meaning people who are depressed are more likely to have a heart attack. That's what scares me! I'd see a doc. Even if you don't want to take a drug, there are still things you can do like exercise and fish oil, which both help me. But I'd see someone with some more knowledge. If you feel it enough to write something here, it's not something you should ignore.

I've heard depression is a complication of diabetes. Has anyone experienced this or can anyone share thoughts. I'm losing interest in things and it scares me. I've had diabetes for 23+ years. Any input is appreciated. Thanks, Jett

I took a look at the USDA's list of foods that contain iron. It looks like breakfast cereals and beans (like kidney beans and chickpeas) have a lot of iron. I can post the link but I'm not sure how to do it. Here, let me try:
USDA Iron Content of Selected Foods

I'm not a big meat eater. I eat alot of yogurt and stuff like that, read the labels on them and there isn't any iron in it.

On Wed Mar 14 16:23:16 2007 () said:
If you eat red meat, eat it with some vitamin C. That's supposed to help you absorb the iron better.

The reason I need the test is that my mom had polps and my brother just had one done and he had 5 of them, he is two years older than I. I have an uncle and a cousin that have servied colon cancer, the cousin is younger than I am. The dr said that they would like to lower the age of getting one to 40. There is just to many people in there 50's getting the cancer. But I haven't had the test yet. I have been sick for a little over a month now. I get the flu shot every year and only get a cold. This year how ever, I started out with broncis that turned to phenoma in the right lung. Then it went to swollen glands in the left side of my neck, just the left and they where big and hard as a rock and hurt. After three rounds of antiboctics I was starting to feel better and I wake up this morning and my neck hurts again and the lump is back in my neck, swollen and hard. I'm still taking pills, what do you make of that? I've taken more antibotics this last month than I have in probably 5 years. Guess I'll call the dr again

On Mon Mar 12 08:15:11 2007 () said:
Ouch, Sam. Hope that knee gets better pronto. Maybe it was all that snow shoveling?

To the person who's worried about their colon test. At least you're getting one. I'm 50 and haven't had one yet.

Ya, I just had an MRI on my right knee. Surgery or not? I am waiting til Wednesday to find out. Meanwhile, the house gets few things done. I can't straighten my rt. leg! Grrrr....

I've noticed that to. My avg. blood sugar on my monitor looks good and then I go in and there's is so much higher. You think your doing good and go there and get slapped, and go home and try harder. It's not the blood work I have such a problem with, I need a colon test done and that's what I'm worried about.

On Sat Mar 10 05:15:58 2007 () said:
I know. Those fasting days screw me up. I end up not eating until later in the day afterwards and not at meal times. My sugars are all over the place then. They'll even go high if I don't eat, go figure. Another thing about blood tests, they always seem to show my blood sugar about 30 or 40 higher than what I get at home. I don't know if it's my meter or if I'm anxious (which I am!) at the doctor's, or what.

On Fri Mar 9 08:43:28 2007 () said:
Yes, I do. The worse thing is having tests done in the first place. I don't mind blood work, but any other kind of tests scare me. They think they are so easy to do, but when your diabetic fasting tests are hard. What if you can't have anything to eat or drink after midnight and you wake up low, what are you suppose to do?

On Thu Mar 8 15:49:59 2007 () said:
Don't you hate having to wait for test results!

I did get my blood work done today, don't know when the dr will let me know about it. I am a woman but am 51 and haven't had a period in two months.

On Tue Mar 6 13:43:17 2007 () said:
Definitely get the blood work done. You have to find out why you're low. For me, being a woman, it was my monthy. But if you're a man it might be somewhere else where you're losing blood.

On Tue Mar 6 12:44:10 2007 Sam () said:
Anemia means low iron in your blood. I take an iron suppliment from the Drugstore, costs almost nothing. And...your Dr. will tell you what you need. That's just MY experience. I also cook in cast iron, and that leaches enough iron for me. Probably enough in my Sunday omlette alone, ha ha.

what does it mean when the dr says you are anmeic? He didn't really explane good enough. Going for more blood work tomorrow
