Talk with your doctor FIRST before adding cinnamon (or anything else) as a dietary supplement. If your doctor approves, you can take 2 500 gram capsules which equals about 1/4 teaspoon. To get approximately 1 teaspoon, you must take 6 capsules (assuming each capsule is 500 grams). 12 capsules equals about 1 3/4 teaspoons of cinnamon. Most health food stores and places on the web sell capsules that are 500 grams each. Research has shown that the best blood glucose results come from the LOWEST intake of cinnamon (2 capsules a day). However, at higher doses, research showed improved levels of triglycerides -- anywhere from 23% to 30% reductions. Also, LDL or "bad" cholesterol went down from 13% to 26%.

You are quite welcome, but please rember anything labeled oil is a fat. also, fat is 9 calories per gram and carbs and protein are only 4 calories per gr. I have made the big adjustment also. 5'5 and 122 pounds...I sometimes feel like I am starving but all my vitals are great except the iron...once aweek the doc said I must eat meat..I am not a vegan but just don't cook anymore so my meat patty is via mcdonalds OCCASIONALLY - the BS rise is monitored every hour..a cheese burger (double - I go the limit) take a bolus (shot) of 2.5-3 units and then a drip for 4.5- 5 hours of 5.5 units (this all depends on if there are fries )...the fat was good for the moment !!!!..If i don't eat meat, I have to take 2 iron tablets of 325mg each a day........for people who use the shots, I think the same applies...check every hour or two and then give a little regular when the rise starts...with the new lantus and other insulins the rise may not be as great...The Joslin Clinic (their doctors discovered insulin) has a web site for pump people, type 1's and type 2's...a very good site but I like this format better... The pump is great but sometimes I find I hate wearing something 24/7...but when I think about those shots 4 times a day, the pump wins...good luck to anyone wishing to wear one. They are wonderful...Take care.

Thank you, "O". That is good info...I wear a pump too, and am slim, so I didn't worry about fat. I'll drop the butter, and use more olive oil. That's better for you anyhow, I think..

Hi...I haven't been here for a long while but decided to drop by and read for a bit....My blood sugars were a terrible problem for me and I switched to the pump thinking the high BS would be a thing of the past but not so...I finally spoke with a D counselor and here is the news ((for pumpers as well as regular type 1's - I do not know how type 2's would handle this...just not eat fat, I guess)) ...when you include fat in your diet, because it stops the way carbs are absorbed, hours after you eat the fat, (cheese, bacon, salad dressings, chips, etc) the blood sugars will sore even though they were good for 2 hours after eating ...so I immediately stopped eating anything thing with fat...for me that is less than 3 grs per meal. If you eat large amounts of fat, you must test every 2 hours and give small insulin doses until the fat has disappeared from your system...with me that took about 8-10 hours....and blood sugars in the 300-400's..yikes!!!....I was feeling real bad for my eyes and kidneys cause that is bad news !!! Anyway, this works and the blood sugars are good now...a1c is 5.5...down from 10.8..Fat is more serious for me than the carbs...so I now watch both amounts in my diet....going on 35 years of D and still doing okay...no complications . Hope this news helps...Take care.

To Ally - Does she drink a lot? Is she always thirsty? And then, is she peeing a lot? When your sugar is high, your body tries to remove it in urine. Another sign is fatigue, but who doesn't feel tired in this day and age. If you have any doubt, you need to get her blood sugar checked.

I never heard of coumadin affecting blood sugar. But I can imagine that a state of health that requires coumadin, like clogged blood vessels, could be tied into diabetes and blood sugar levels.

Wendy, check www.webmd.com. Increases in blood sugar is not a listed side effect of Coumadin.

How much insulin you take depends on how much you eat, how much you excercise, are you insulin resistence, it all is different for everyone. I am insulin resistence and I started out on 80 units of lantus in the morning and by late afternoon it would start to wear off. Now I take 50 units in the morning and 12 hours later I take another 40 units. Plus I take R at meals. Sometimes I can get by without the R if I'm really busy, and other times I have to take it every time I eat something

I am diabetic and I take 70 units of lantus 10mg of glipizide and still my blood sugar is not steady I try very hard to eat only 2 or 3 carbs per meal. Sometimes I only want 1 meal a day and I eat by somepeoples standers at odd times I worked for 20 years a night. I am no day person. I hate this monitoring blood sugar. Maybe one time the reading is better so I get my hopes up then next time its 230. very seldom is it higher than that. Could someone tell me is 70 units of insulin a bit to take? This is new to me. And is there a set amount to take . Also dose lantus put weight on a person Righ now I am soooooooo mad about the whole thing having to worry about sugar levels thanks reading this Donna

I am hiding on my side deck, with shade at last, thanks to my dear Brother. We are eating diabetic food, and I made a real fruit cake (no citron, just fruit) and I am wishing you all well and a happy 4th! Yes, there's something to the cinnamon! it's great for diabetics! A good herb. It's on the fruit cake too! Angie...maybe a nerve drug called "Neurontin", for diabetic nerve pain would help your friends feet? My Brother here, is a type 2...he takes it twice a day. Can't make it without it! Cheers....Sam.
